Abstract: An organic light-emitting device comprising an anode, a cathode, and an emissive layer between the anode and cathode, wherein either the emissive layer is an oligo(phenylenevinylene) or derivative thereof is described. The device may further include a hole transport layer and/or an electron transport layer coupled with either the anode or cathode. Also described are displays employing such devices and a method of making such a device.
Abstract: A system for tensioning a membrane within a frame for a loudspeaker or a microphone is characterized by a frame containing an opening, a membrane connected to an exterior surface of the frame and spanning the frame opening, and a tensioning device connected with the frame for deflecting a portion of the membrane within the frame opening. The tensioning device is compliant thereby allowing the membrane to exhibit a high degree of flexure both within and beyond a plane containing the membrane.
Abstract: A circuit for lowering the effective voltage drop of a semi-conductor diode. The circuit includes a first Metal Oxide Semi-conductor (MOS) device connected in parallel with the diode. A bias voltage which is close to but lower than the threshold voltage is applied to the MOS device. When a forward voltage is applied to the diode, this voltage is added to the source to drain voltage of the MOS device which turns it on. The MOS device then bypasses the diode to effectively overcome the inherent forward voltage drop of the diode. The circuit is advantageously applied to a rectifier circuit to reduce input voltage requirements and improve the efficiency of the rectifier.
Abstract: A sealing and acoustic insulation panel, in particular for automobile vehicle doors, includes a sealing sheet and a layer of acoustic insulation, with a bead of adhesive material on the sealing sheet for fixing the panel to a support plate. A frame for applying pressure to the bead of adhesive material is placed between the sealing and acoustic insulation panel and a trim panel clipped to the support plate.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a brush head comprising a brush head body carrying bristle bundles, in particular for tooth brushes, by way of injection molding, in which a first plastic component is injected into a first mold cavity for forming a bristle carrier, and ends of bristle filaments projecting into the first mold cavity are encompassed by the first plastic component. In order to guarantee a complete filling of the mold and a favorable reproduction of the mold cavity geometry, but to avoid at the same time a penetration of plastic mass into ducts in which the bristle filaments are held, it is suggested by the present invention that the bristle carrier manufactured during the first step is relocated into another mold cavity, which is larger than the bristle carrier, and which is filled with a hard component.

Abstract: A locking differential includes a pair of annular coaxially-arranged axially-spaced clutch members having adjacent faces that contain cam groove that receive a driving cross pin, cooperating locking lugs and grooves being provided on the adjacent faces of the clutch members for preventing relative rotation therebetween. The cross pin extends diametrically across a supporting sleeve that is non-rotatably mounted concentrically within the central chamber of the cylindrical housing of the differential, thereby permitting the differential to be retrofit into various differential casings.
Abstract: A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and monitoring diode combination having reduced parasitic capacitance for use in high bandwidth communications systems. The VCSEL has both p-type and n-type contacts on the same face. This allows the VCSEL to be mounted on a monitor chip or diode without using a metal contact layer. In an embodiment wherein the VCSEL is soldered to the monitor chip for mechanical stability only a small metal pad no larger than the VCSEL is used. The reduction in metallisation results in a lower parasitic capacitance that in turn results in higher potential operational speeds.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for aligning and cutting pipes to extract and install piping in industrial plants is characterized by the use of lasers on a ring for aligning the cutting tool. By adjusting the ring so that beams from the lasers strike specified targets at a remote location corresponding with a pipe end, a cutting location is defined so that the trimmed end of a first pipe will properly align with a remote pipe. When the pipes welded together, their ends will match, thereby minimizing stress in the pipe. A cutting tool can be provided directly on the ring so that the pipe can be cut without removing the ring.
Abstract: A junction box and distributor assembly includes an external connector that is mounted on a distributor device for connection with a mating companion connector that is mounted in an opening contained in a wall of the junction box, whereby remotely located sensors may be connected via the distribution device and the mating connectors with a programmable operating module contained within the junction box. In order to prevent the penetration of moisture into the junction box, a first seal is arranged about the housing opening between the distributor device and the outer surface of the housing wall. A second seal may be provided in compressed relation concentrically between the peripheral surface of the housing opening and the outer peripheral surface of the second connector.
Abstract: An improved power system that recovers heat energy from the exhaust of internal combustion utilizing an internal combustion engine in combination with a Brayton bottoming system. Heat from a thermal battery drives the bottoming system to create electrical power that supplements the engine power. Sources of heat for the thermal battery include hot engine exhaust gasses, electrically generated heat, and residual heat from motor/generators.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a toothbrush comprising a handle and a brush head provided with a plurality of bristle bundles. A basic body of a brush head is produced preferably from a hard component in an injection-moulding means, the bristle bundles being embedded at their ends in bristle-bundle holding sections which are connected by bridge portions. These bridge portions are cut through and the basic body of the brush head is encompassed preferably with a soft component by injection moulding.
Abstract: A device for handling and splitting logs is characterized by a unique mechanism for holding logs while they are cut into sections of a desired length and then simultaneously splitting the cut sections into quarters. The log holding apparatus is arranged on a portable frame and inclined bed for the logs, the entire apparatus being easily transported to the log handling site.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for recording image information on a data carrier which has a substrate that can have optically identifiable information written to it by the application of radiation, and an image-carrying area suitable for the application of information, in which the whole image information of an image to be recorded is applied to the image-carrying area. In order to increase the tamperproofness of the image to be recorded and the identifiability of the said image, without adversely affecting the brilliance and colour fidelity of the image, the invention provides for a portion of the image information that is to be recorded to be additionally written to the substrate with the aid of radiation.
