Abstract: A time correlated single photon counting system having a programmable delay generator triggered by a laser fire event detector. The system may be used for chemical agent detection based on Rayleigh scattering using optical time domain reflectometry techniques. The system may also be used for Raman detection using frequency to time transformations.

Abstract: A clamp for a construction strut that allows a pipe to be clamped to the construction strut in which the clamp has a fastener that is not exposed above the clamp curvature and in which the fastener head is easily accessible. Also the clamp has a retaining tab and a neck portion such that it can be installed either on the open side of the construction strut or on the closed side using slots in the closed side by straight-in passing the retaining tab past the inturned flanges on the top of the construction strut.

Abstract: The extraction of a hair graft from a harvesting area of a scalp employs a hollow punch fitted with an auxiliary instrumentation for separating a target graft from collagen fibrils which resist extraction. A water jet which follows the annular path of the punch as it rotates into the scalp is described as well as a vibrating punch alternative embodiment for achieving the desired separation.

Abstract: A method of using UV cationic epoxy to repair cracks and breaks windshields in order to eliminate oxygen inhibition and shrinkage. The method includes embodiments that employ pretreatment or priming of the of a crack or break in order to negate the moisture and PVB retardation of the UV cationic epoxy polymerization and mixing the UV cationic epoxy and a UV radical resin to create a hybrid or; adding other ingredients to the UV cationic epoxy to negate the moisture and PVB retardation; and use of the UV cationic epoxy as a cap over repair resin/epoxy and as a pit filler. Other combinations of materials and procedures are disclosed.

Abstract: A device detects underfill voids and solder ball defects via laser generation and laser detection of an ultrasonic wave at the top surface of flip chips. High resolution is provided by using small laser spot sizes and closely-spaced laser beams of wavelengths that are absorbed near the surface of the semiconductor. Improved spatial resolution and rejection of unwanted scattered waves can be attained by limiting the time frame of the ultrasonic waveform to the time required for the first longitudinal wave reflection from the bottom of the flip chip. The laser beam spacing can be reduced by using probe and detection beams of different wavelengths. Resolution of less than 100 ?m features was demonstrated for silicon flip chips.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for testing composite structures in which ultrasonic waves are used to detect disbonds in the structures are described. The apparatus comprises a flexible structure carrying acousto-optical transducers such as fiber Bragg gratings. During use, the apparatus is mechanically and conformally coupled to the structure under test.

Abstract: A tension head for a racquet stringing machine in which roller bearings are used between the outer vice plates and the vice jaws. Also, a pin on one vice jaw extends into a slot in an outer vice plate and in the slot is an adjustable screw which allows override of the compression on string upon contact with the pin. Also a follower is mounted on the lead screw and steadied by a guide bar in order to reduce spurious movement of the snatch vice during operation.

Abstract: A mobile rover has a navigation receiver receiving radio positioning data from radio positioning entities. The mobile rover can report its position to a mobile controller unit or another entity so that the location of the mobile unit can be tracked based on the radio positioning data received by the mobile rover. The radio positioning data can be processed by processing systems within the mobile rover, mobile controller, or other entities such as a position determination entity or a position determination entity proxy. The processing systems can also perform calculations to augment the radio positioning data to provide more accurate estimates of the position of the mobile controller and/or the mobile rover. The mobile controller and/or the mobile rover may be cellular telephones within a cellular network.

Abstract: Faults, dimensions and other characteristics of a material or structure are sensed by a coherent beam's reflection from the material when probed with ultrasonic waves or when vibrating at high frequencies. The reflected beam acquires a dynamic phase change substantially different from its original phase and from the phase of a reference beam split from the common source beam. The reflected beam and the reference beam are superimposed by diffraction in an adaptive holographic beam-splitter, and the superimposed beams are detected by a photodetector capable of detecting small phase changes from ultrasonic surface displacements or perturbations. An apparatus and method are disclosed defining an improved crystal homodyne interferometer with an energy source coupled to the crystal and operative to maintain the crystal in a condition for emptying unwanted traps in the crystal.

Abstract: Apparatus for determining the status of hair bulk in an area of a scalp is operative to provide a metric over a sufficiently large area to permit revisiting with only negligible misalignment error. Accurate re-measurement of hair status in accurately identified areas produces a reliable metric for determining degree of hair loss and or the effectiveness of treatment.

Abstract: An audio source device may be used with a garment such as a hooded garment by passing the audio wires into a channel in the hood and having them exit the hood inside hollow lanyards with earbuds at the ends. A means to fix the wires and the lanyards to each other inside the hood is shown; and a means is shown to prevent lateral movement inside the hood.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for making a mineral battery using treated powdered polar crystal mineral and a treated liquid as an electrolyte. The polar crystal powder and liquid are either separately or after mixing together subjected to a rotating EMF. The powder-liquid mixture is inserted into a housing and compacted therein to form a mineral battery, along with an anode and a cathode and terminals. The preferred polar crystal mineral is tourmaline. In one embodiment, after the mixture is in the housing it is subjected to a voltage. In one embodiment the mixture is prepared and compacted into the housing and then subjected to a rotating EMF, and may then also be subjected to application of a voltage.

Abstract: A gas sensor system and its method of fabrication is disclosed. The sensor system comprises an optrode, light source, and a light detector. In a sensor for hydrogen gas, the optrode is comprised of a porous substrate into which an intimate mixture of reagent and catalyst is incorporated. The mixture reacts with the hydrogen to produce a color/intensity change in relation to the concentration of gas. The optrode further includes a reversing agent, boron, to restore the benchmark conditions of the sensor system in real-time. The method of fabricating the optrode includes the steps of cleaning; etching to achieve the proper porosity; incorporating the reagent, catalyst, and reversing agent using capillary action; and removing excess reagent and catalyst.

Abstract: A ducted propulsion vector system that vectors thrust generated from ducted fan powered aircraft. The system has hinged duct flaps may be vectored from +10 degrees up and turned through ?90 degrees downward. Vectored downward 90 degrees, the flaps vector thrust enabling vertical/short takeoff and landing of an aircraft. Hover control is facilitated by internal mounted vanes in line of the thrust stream. The duct flaps are transitioned at operator's input to enable the aircraft to achieve forward flight.

Abstract: A system for providing power to remote equipment where a transmit unit having lasers transmits laser light over optical fiber to a receive unit having photovoltaic receivers. The photovoltaic receivers convert the laser light to electrical energy for the remote equipment. The receive unit also sends a feedback signal to the transmit unit which the transmit unit uses to determine whether the lasers should be enabled for full power.
