  • Patent number: 6470605
Abstract: A reduction system using water pressure and vacuum excavation and including a water supply tank, water pump, vacuum pump, slurry collection tank, a system for tilting the collection tank, handheld reduction tool, and a drive system. The reduction tool, or wand, is used to deliver high pressure fluid, such as water, to the ground in order to loosen soil directly in front of the tool. The tool includes diametrically opposed nozzles which are angled with respect to one another such that pressurized water delivered from the nozzles is directed in a fashion to slice the ground in a generally spiral or helical fashion as the tool is pressed downward into the ground. As the soil is loosened by the pressurized water delivered from the nozzles, the loosened soil is sucked away to form a hole in the ground, and such loosened soil (a slurry when mixed with the water) passes upwardly through the tool in a vacuum air-flow created by the vacuum pump and is deposited in the slurry collection tank.

  • Patent number: 6457267
Abstract: A combination machine for trenching, for forming the edge of a bed, and for laying and burying tubing, cable, piping, and the like. The machine includes steerable caster wheels mounted on the rear of the machine which, together with a single front wheel, allow for a tight turning radius when using the machine. The machine also includes a blade height adjustment which allows for the trenching or edging blade depth to be readily adjusted in a substantially infinite variation. An edging blade is provided which when used with the machine forms a groove at the bed's edge for the laying of irrigation lines, or lines for herbicide, pesticide, and/or fertilizer for use in connection with the bed.

  • Patent number: 6397477
Abstract: Spring-assisted folding knife designs having a coil spring, cable, and spool arrangement for pivoting a blade from a retracted position to an extended position. Activation of the spring system can be accomplished a pushbutton mounted on the side of the knife's handle, or through depression of a locking lever carried on the back side of the handle. Once moved to the extended position, the blade is automatically locked in that position through the pushbutton mechanism in one embodiment, or, in the other embodiment, through a liner lock.

  • Patent number: 6370778
Abstract: A folding knife having a handle and a blade attached to the handle, the blade being connected for movement between a retracted position and an extended position with respect to the handle, and the blade a first locking profile, such as a notch. A locking member is provided having a second locking member, such as a projection, the projection being configured to be engageable with the notch when the blade is in the extended position. A pivotal connector is connected to the handle and to the locking member for allowing the locking member to pivot with respect to the handle. The locking member is movable between a locking position, wherein the second locking profile is in locking engagement with the first locking profile for locking the blade in the extended position, and an unlocking position, wherein the blade is movable with respect to the handle.

  • Patent number: 6250009
Abstract: A brace for use by a shooter to brace a gun having an elongated stock and a butt portion. The brace includes a generally upright member connected to the stock of the gun and is configured for contacting the back portion of the user's head or neck and for bracing the gun there against while the user holds the butt of the gun against the user's shoulder. A telescoping arm is pivotally connected to the stock of the firearm adjacent the butt of the gun. The arm is pivotable between a retracted position adjacent the stock and an extended, operable position above the stock. A brace pad is connected to the end of the arm, and the brace pad is spring-biased to pivot outwardly for contacting the back of the user's head or neck.

  • Patent number: 6226972
Abstract: To provide a method and device with which Alternate Twisted Yarn can be produced simply and inexpensively. An Alternate Twisted Yarn is produced by alternately repeating with a neutral and tilt switching method and twisting yarn 1 in the reverse direction on both sides of pulley 2 driven by yarn 1 that is inserted between the flanges of pulley 2, so that the yarn passage is bent or flexed. Shaft 3 of this pulley 2 is inclined to the yarn 1 yarn passage plane to bring yarn 1 into contact with the flange section 2a's internal surface of pulley 2, and in the neutral position under which yarn 1 is not twisted on both sides of pulley 2, with shaft 3 of pulley 2 being made perpendicular to the yarn 1 yarn passage plane to cut off its contact to the pulley 2 flange section 2a's internal surface.

  • Patent number: 6148146
Abstract: A hot water heater of a low profile, box-shaped design, with the height and width remaining generally constant, and the length being dependent on the volumetric capacity desired for the water heater. The water heater is configured for horizontal configuration or vertical mounting and includes a cold water inlet for allowing input of cold water into a lower compartment. A baffle plate divides the lower compartment from an upper compartment, and water from the cold water inlet flows through a baffle opening, or delivery outlet, into the upper compartment. While in the lower compartment, the water is subjected to heating by at least one heating element, which serves to pre-heat the water. As the water flows to the upper compartment, it is heated further by at least one additional heating element located in the upper compartment.
