  • Patent number: 6254480
Abstract: A computer selected “quick pick” wagering system uses keys in the form of random numbers to serve as seed numbers in a pseudo-random number generating algorithm. A sales agent's terminal uses the algorithm and seed to produce random number combinations for each play from a pool, assigning the number combinations sequentially and printing them, together with a sequential serial number, onto lottery tickets. By storing the algorithm and seed at both the host computer and remote agent terminal, the remote terminal can transmit all pertinent wagering information by only transmitting the actual count of plays sold, thereby reducing the amount of data exchanged by several orders of magnitude. The host computer can then reconstruct the wagers and compare them to winning number combinations. Liability information for each terminal is transmitted back to the agent together with new seed numbers, so the agent terminal may begin selling plays for a new pool while also verifying accurate data exchange.

  • Patent number: 6183905
Abstract: A terminal assembly for sealing and electrically isolating a conducting terminal from a container of an electrolytic device uses a lock nut and a single-piece deformable gasket. When the lock nut is threaded down the terminal, an inwardly tapered sleeve of the lock nut cooperates with an outwardly tapered zone of the gasket to force the gasket to surround the opening of the container and to seal the terminal before compression is applied. Reliable sealing and electrical insulation are provided because predetermined axial and radial compression forces are generated on the opening of the container. A robust sealed terminal is provided while over compression of the single-piece gasket is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6183767
Abstract: A pesticide and a method of using the pesticide to kill invertebrates, especially insects, arachnids and larvae. The method is to prepare a mixture of a carrier with the pesticide and apply the mixture to the insects, arachnids and larvae and their habitat. The pesticide is a neurotransmitter affector utilizing octopamine receptor sites in the insects, arachnids and larvae. The affector agent is a chemical having a six membered carbon ring having substituted thereon at least one oxygenated functional group. The affector agent is a chemical component of a plant essential oil and is naturally occurring. Deposition of the chemicals of the present invention on a surface provides residual toxicity for up to 30 days. Various carriers for the affector agent are disclosed. • Patent number: 6177937
Abstract: A computer apparatus and method for displaying radiological data such as X-rays, CT scans and other similar anatomical sequences in combination with other modalities such as plan views provides functionality which very closely resembles a standard radiological light box. Basic manipulations which occur at the light box by a radiologist or other medical personnel are closely emulated in function to allow medical personnel to stay focussed directly on the anatomical images and thereby avoid distraction and frustration of visually departing from the image in order to accomplish these basic functions. Some of the basic functions disclosed are quick-flip image mirroring, image rotation, panning, on-screen control of the number of images displayed in a mosaic, single drag and drop loading of radiological studies, cines and other functions. A dark and stark display further simulates the light box.
