In a preferred arrangement, a consumer perceiving an advertisement of the mass media publication may activate a reader in a portable communications device, such as a smart mobile or cellular phone, to receive information from the radio frequency signal associated with the advertisement to identify a vendor, product or service associated with the radio frequency identification. The smart mobile phone or communications device of the consumer may communicate with a system of a vendor across a network to order a product or product information from a system of the vendor over the network by using the information from the radio frequency identification.

Abstract: A device is disclosed for securing a spinal rod to the spine which includes a head portion configured to receive a spinal rod, a locking cap configured to engage the head portion and the spinal rod upon rotation of the locking cap relative to the head portion to secure the position of the head portion relative to the spinal rod, and a fastener portion depending from the head portion and configured to engage the spine. The locking cap has discontinuous opposed engagement flanges that are received within opposed engagement slots of the head portion when the locking cap is rotated into a locked position.

Abstract: Provided is a method for manufacturing a bonded wafer with a good thin film over the entire substrate surface, especially in the vicinity of the lamination terminal point. The method for manufacturing a bonded wafer comprises at least the following steps of: forming an ion-implanted region by implanting a hydrogen ion or a rare gas ion, or the both types of ions from a surface of a first substrate which is a semiconductor substrate; subjecting at least one of an ion-implanted surface of the first substrate and a surface of a second substrate to be attached to a surface activation treatment; laminating the ion-implanted surface of the first substrate and the surface of the second substrate in an atmosphere with a humidity of 30% or less and/or a moisture content of 6 g/m3 or less; and a splitting the first substrate at the ion-implanted region so as to reduce thickness of the first substrate, thereby manufacturing a bonded wafer with a thin film on the second substrate.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to provide a signal discriminating device realizing signal discrimination which enables a more appropriate signal process to be performed according to a signal source and a state of an input video signal. The signal discriminating device includes: a comparing section comparing a motion magnitude between two fields of an input video signal with one or more predetermined motion magnitude patterns which are provided in correspondence with one or more signal sources, so as to determine one or more degrees of match or mismatch between the motion magnitude and the motion magnitude patterns; and a discriminating section discriminating a signal source of the input video signal in consideration of the degree of certainty or uncertainty of discrimination, the degree of certainty or uncertainty being determined on the basis of the degrees of match or mismatch determined in the comparing section.
Abstract: The invention relates to a deflector for an aircraft, comprising a discharge pipe for leading a fluid to be drained from the aircraft by way of an outlet end to the environment of the aircraft; an actuator, coupled to the discharge pipe, for swinging out, when required, the discharge pipe to at least one activation position, wherein in the activation position the outlet end is arranged so as to be spaced apart from the exterior skin of the aircraft, and the deflector guides the fluid to be drained so that it exits outside a flow boundary layer that is present on the exterior skin. The deflector according to the invention is activated when required and is able to discharge structure-damaging fluids to the environment in such a way that the exterior structure of the aircraft does not become wet, and at the same time the deflector according to the invention, normally accommodated within the contour of the aircraft, does not result in any additional aerodynamic resistance.
Abstract: Biodegradable polymer-coated surgical meshes formed into pouches are described for use with cardiac rhythm management devices (CRMs) and other implantable medical devices. Such meshes are formed into a receptacle, e.g., a pouch or other covering, capable of encasing, surrounding and/or holding the cardiac rhythm management device or other implantable medical device and preventing or retarding the formation of a biofilm.

In response to a request for a commercial message search in which a keyword sent from the user via a network is taken as a key, the CM information server searches the data base for a commercial-message feature and sends the commercial-message feature detected in the data base to the user via the network.
Abstract: A content receiver is compatible with a plurality of rights management and protection methods (RMP) devised for each content distribution system. Only the format which specifies the specification of the RMP formed of information such as content billing, security, and copyright protection, is standardized. Each content provider inputs encrypted content and rights processing information to content in a form conforming to the standardized specification. For content users, by merely being provided with functions corresponding to each RMP method in advance, even if the content is based on any RMP method, the content can be decrypted and used in the same content receiver.

Abstract: An insulating mat for the sound insulation of an aircraft fuselage structure that is composed of frames and stringers extending transverse to the frames, to a fastener means for fastening an insulating mat on an aircraft fuselage structure such that acoustic bridges are prevented. An insulating kit is also provided that comprises at least one insulating mat as well as at least one fastener. The insulating mat features a plurality of fastening clips that are fixed on a first surface of the insulating mat and laterally protrude over the border of the insulating mat.

Abstract: An improvement in a polishing apparatus for planarizing substrates comprises a tenacious coating of a low-adhesion material to a platen surface. An expendable polishing pad is adhesively attached to the low-adhesion material, and may be removed for periodic replacement at much reduced expenditure of force. Polishing pads joined to low-adhesion materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by conventional adhesives resist distortion during polishing but are readily removed for replacement.
