  • Patent number: 4378473
Abstract: A locking and release mechanism for use in connection with retractable drop lights is disclosed including a spring loaded reel mounted for rotational movement so that a conductor for the drop light can be reeled and unreeled therefrom. The mechanism includes a ratchet rotatable with the reel, a pawl pivotably mounted adjacent to the ratchet so that the pawl can be rotated between positions engaging the ratchet and disengaging the ratchet, thus permitting the spring loaded reel to rewind the conductor, a solenoid for pivoting the pawl between those two positions, and a switch located in proximity to the drop light itself for connection to the solenoid through the conductor so that the solenoid can be selectively activated from that switch location.

  • Patent number: 4377073
Abstract: Methods for utilizing the heat content of a heated carrier agent are disclosed including indirectly contacting the carrier agent with a working fluid which boils at a temperature lower than water, in order to vaporize the working fluid, producing mechanical energy by expanding the working fluid to a number of reduced pressures, including the condensation pressure of the working fluid corresponding to atmospheric temperature conditions at the time, and a reduced pressure intermediate between the initial elevated pressure of the working fluid and that condensation pressure, separating the working fluid into separate streams corresponding to the working fluid at each of these reduced pressures, condensing the working fluid stream at the lowest pressure by indirectly contacting it with the atmospheric air, condensing the working fluid at the condensation pressure by indirectly contacting it with a liquid heat carrier, and repressurizing both of those working fluid streams for recycle.

  • Patent number: 4374545
Abstract: There is described a new and improved method of fracturing an underground stratigraphic formation penetrated by a well bore including the steps of pumping a stream of liquified gas into the formation to cause the fracturing thereof and then introducing proppants directly into the stream of liquified gas for injection of the proppants into the fractures. Prior to introducing the proppants into the liquid gas stream, they are cooled and pressurized to the storage temperature and pressure of the liquified gas.

  • Patent number: 4374088
Abstract: A device for the transfer of one or more substances between a gas and a liquid, the gas being introduced into the liquid in the form of bubbles from which the said substances are transferred to the liquid whereupon the excess gas is removed together with any substances transferred from the liquid to the gas. Characteristic for the device is a narrow annular gap (10), arranged vertically, for the liquid, a gas inlet (20), arranged in close connection to this gap (10), this gas inlet being adapted so that it introduces the gas uniformly distributed along the whole periphery of the gap (10), and means (34,36) for the removal of the excess gas.The device is intended in particular to be used as a so-called oxygenator when the said liquid is blood and the said gas is oxygen or an oxygen mixture. Carbon dioxide from the blood will then be removed together with the excess gas.

  • Patent number: 4373208
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for tuning into one of a number of radioelectric signals receivable on a signal receiver set is provided in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The circuit arrangement consists of a controllable oscillator, whose frequency is determined by a control loop, in accordance with a binary number N. The binary number N is supplied by a processing unit on the basis of coded input data. Within the control loop, frequency division occurs so that a first signal is obtained from the controllable oscillator which is dependent at least on the number N. This first signal is then compared with a second reference frequency signal, to obtain a third signal for required tuning. A memory with a number of storage locations for storing data relative to signals tuned in digital form is also provided.
