Abstract: Towing attachments for attaching trailers to the end of various vehicles are disclosed, including a tubular sleeve attached to the vehicle, an extension bar having one end rotatably attached to the tow bar of the trailer while the other end is adapted to be releasably attached to the tubular sleeve and having a cross-sectional shape which is complementary to that of the tubular sleeve so that it may slide smoothly into same for attachment thereto, and a clamp for releasably clamping the end of the extension bar to the tubular sleeve, the clamp including a fixed trunnion extending from the tubular sleeve and a resilient clamp affixed to the extension bar so that the resilient clamp can be releasably clamped to the fixed trunnion when the extension bar slides into the tubular sleeve, the resilient clamp being pivotable between a first position in which it does not interfere with the sliding of the extension bar into the tubular sleeve and a second position in which it prevents the extension bar from being slida

Abstract: A combined pivot joint and electric contact device between two welding current conductors forming part of the welding circuit of a resistance welder. The device is provided with a pair of contact plates extending at right angles to the joint axis and connected each to one of the welding current conductors. The plates are rotatable and axially displaceable with respect to each other. A yieldable thrust member urges the plates into engagement with each other. A channel provided in at least one of the plates has an outlet in the contact face of the plate and an inlet away from said face. Separation of the plates is effected by connecting the channel to a source of compressed gas to discharge a current of gas through the port.

Abstract: A package adapted to be supported by a hook comprises a container which cooperates with a hanger capable of being readily assembled with the container. The container has an aperture adjacent the intersection of its top wall and rear wall, and the hanger has a head which projects upwardly through the aperture to provide an opening adapted to engage the hook. The hanger also has a pair of arms which extend outwardly from the head to engage along the underside of the top wall. A notch is provided in the hanger at the intersection of the head and the right hand arm for engaging a portion of the top wall after the head has been slid laterally upon release of the left hand arm from its forwardly flexed position during passage of the head upwardly through the aperture. The end of the left hand arm engages the left side wall to latch the hanger in position.

Abstract: A device is disclosed for coordinating the position of an injection syringe needle in a gas chromatographic apparatus with at least one other operation of the gas chromatographic apparatus downstream of the device. The device comprises a first channel for introducing the injection syringe. The first channel is substantially aligned with the injection channel of a gas chromatographic injector.

Abstract: An extinguishing device for lighted articles such as cigars, cigarettes and the like. The extinguishing device comprises a housing having a first hollow compartment for containing an extinguishing liquid such as water, and a second hollow compartment containing a capillary material which provides sufficiently small pores therethroughout to provide by capillary action wetting of the capillary material when extinguishing liquid is introduced into the second compartment, the capillary material being such as to maintain its integrity when wetted with extinguishing liquid. The second compartment has an open end, and the housing is provided with a passageway interconnecting the first compartment with the second compartment to transfer water from the first compartment into the second compartment to wet the capillary material. An extinguishing member of wettable material is also provided for the open end of the second compartment for extinguishing a lighted article which comes in contact therewith.

Abstract: A pair of cam driven finger pieces of a holder unit for a hose such as a seamless hose allow travel of the toe section of the hose across the sewing region on a sewing machine along a prescribed arc locus and timely controlled ejection of air jet in the sewing region enables successful and stable sewing action on the toe section even with use of a fixed sewing machine. High production rate is resulted despite simple and compact construction.

Abstract: Tamper-evident closures which are useful in conjunction with various bottles and containers are disclosed. The closures are intended to be used in connection with containers having threaded necks above an annular collar, and they comprise one-piece closures including an end wall, an internally threaded upper portion and a depending lower skirt portion which includes an inwardly projecting bead adapted to engage the annular collar on the container. The depending lower skirt portion has a substantially uniform thickness throughout its entire area intended to contact the annular collar on the container, and theclosure includes an area of weakness which is designed to fracture in a substantially horizontal plane across the closure or, in another embodiment, in a plane which neither passes through nor is tangential to the annular collar on the container.

Abstract: Three sets of photoelectric sensors are arranged either in combination or solely re the path of travel of the toe section of a closed stocking on a sewing machine in order to detect presence of sewing defects such as skip sewing, spot sewing and/or foreign material inclusion. Accidental supply of stockings with sewing defects to market is well prevented in a completely automatic manner without any substantial rise in production cost.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device for picking up liquid samples to be analyzed, especially in automatic samplers, said device comprising a needle connected to a sucking pump and supported by a support which moves said needle downwards to pick up the sample from a vial containing same and upwards from said vial. In order to perform a washing step after one aspiration and before the subsequent one, the needle support is designed to perform an oscillating movement when the support is in its upward position with respect to the vial. The oscillating movement is performed by the cooperation of cam means and a control rod having at least a pivot axis controlling the alternative movements. The oscillating movement makes the needle plunge into a sidewardly positioned trough containing a washing liquid.

Abstract: A rotatable rigid disc for separating a liquid into fractions according to the densities of such fractions is disclosed. The rigid disc includes an inlet for the liquid to be separated; at least two outlets for the separated liquid fractions; and a separation chamber in the form of an elongated, curved conduit. The conduit is fluidically connected to the inlet and the outlets, the outlets are positioned on the disc radially outwardly with respect to the inlet, and the outlets are positioned along the elongated, curved conduit so as to provide a separate collection location for each outlet and so that the densest fraction is separated by the outlet nearest to the inlet and the least dense fraction is separated by the outlet most distal from the inlet.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a package from a package blank which includes a series of lateral surfaces and end wall sections connected by fold lines are disclosed. The method disclosed includes folding the package blank along fold lines between the lateral surfaces, moving such partially formed package blank along a predetermined path, and rotating the package blank while it is moving along that path while at the same time sequentially folding the end wall sections along a second set of fold lines at one end of the package so as to form an end wall surface at that end.

Abstract: A device for joining furniture panels comprises a pin (2) in the form of a steel screw having a commonly employed thread on its shank, which can be any of the standard threads used on screws for insertion in wood and chipboard. The screw is inserted into one edge of a panel (4). The screw is symmetrical about its axis so its angular orientation is irrelevant. The other part of the device is a plug-like holding member (8) fitted into a recess (10) in the face of another panel (12). A grub screw (66) is screwed into the holding member (8) and pushes against the head of the screw (2) to clamp the two panels together. Screw (2) can be manufactured cheaply on common screw making machines, does not need to be orientated, has a collar (18) to ensure automatic correct axial positioning, is thin thus involving little risk of bursting the edge of panel (4), and does not need to be of cranked shape for use in relatively thin panels (4).

Abstract: The invention relates to a retention composition for dental prosthesis which, as well as the requisite retention agent, contains a compound inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi. The invention aims primarily at eliminating the problems of earlier inhibitors in such compositions which were found to produce toxic and allergic reactions in the mucous membrane tissues. According to the invention, said compound is sodium bicarbonate.
