  • Patent number: 4300918
Abstract: An improved method for removing particles entrained in air, particularly moisture particles which may contain salt or other contaminating matter. The improved method is particularly useful in connection with marine applications for removing moisture particles from air being introduced to a gas turbine on a marine vehicle. The improved method includes the steps of passing the air at a velocity greater than 20 ft. per second through an inertia separating device for inertially removing at least a portion of the larger sized particles in the air to provide partially processed air, and then passing the partially processed air at a velocity which is greater than a predetermined velocity through an impact filtering pad for removing particles entrained in partially processed air. The impact filtering pad comprises at least one layer of a plurality of fibers, each of the fibers having a diameter greater than 0.001 inches and less than 0.

  • Patent number: 4297795
Abstract: A portable drying rack is provided which comprises frames of unitary construction for hanging articles and support members for supporting the rack in an upright position. The support members are pivotably attached to the frames to permit the drying rack to be collapsed for storage. The pivotable attachment between the frames and support members is accomplished by means also of unitary construction. The unitary construction employed throughout the present invention allows a light-weight drying rack to be formed utilizing inexpensive injection molded plastic. Additionally, because of the unitary construction, the number of components forming the rack is decreased over the prior art.

  • Patent number: 4296663
Abstract: In an electronic musical instrument, two or more pulse signals different in phase are generated each having a frequency corresponding to the tonal pitch of an operated key, an envelope waveshape is read out upon every key operation, sampling is executed on the envelope waveshape by means of these pulse signals, and polarities of sample values are converted in reference to these pulse signals for generation of a corresponding musical tone waveshape. Minimized use of arithmetic circuits such as adders and multipliers greatly reduces production cost whilst assuring generation of a wide variety of colorful, noise-free musical tones. By addition of a slope conversion circuit, abrupt shift in the generated musical tone waveshapes can well be disappeared.

  • Patent number: 4296760
Abstract: Electrical stimulators are disclosed particularly for vaginal placement, comprising an element which is elongated along an axis corresponding with a direction in which the stimulator is intended to be placed, and, including a transverse cross-section having elongated axis in one direction perpendicular to its other axis, and a plurality of electrodes located on one side of a longitudinal cross section of the elongated element corresponding with that elongated axis, thus stabilizing its rotation upon its vaginal placement with the electrodes facing in a predetermined direction. The electrodes are adapted to control the urethral, urocystic and/or rectal functions through electrical pulses provided from a pulse generator, and the elongated element is preferably formed of rubber, plastics or the like, and is inflatable.

  • Patent number: 4296536
Abstract: A method is taught of manufacturing cartridge cases having a substantially cylindrical outer side wall surface and a tapered inner side wall surface. The method comprises the steps of initially forming a cup-shaped article having substantially cylindrical inner and outer side wall surfaces, a substantially flat outer bottom surface with an annular chamfered surface joining the flat outer bottom surface to the outer side wall and an inner bottom wall surface. Thereafter, the cup-shaped article is engaged by a punch element and the punch element forces the cup-shaped article through a series of die members without any intermediate annealing of the article after passage through any of the die members.

  • Patent number: 4296633
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for temperature measurements, comprising a temperature-sensitive sensor whose electrical properties, e.g. resistance, vary with the temperature, e.g. a thermistor, and which via two contacts is connected to two electric conductors arranged on a support, which electric conductors in turn can be connected to a reading unit for the reading of the actual values of current, voltage or the like corresponding to the temperature. In a preferred embodiment the said electric conductors are in the form of two metal layers on both sides of a support made of plastics. The one metal layer is interrupted by a gap which is arranged to be bridged by the sensor, one contact of which is connected to each conductor.

  • Patent number: 4297565
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly including an elongate resilient synthetic resin channel member for attachment to a vehicle window, the channel member having therein a longitudinally extending channel of re-entrant cross-section. An elongate electrically conductive part is arranged to be received as a snap fit in said channel, whereby one or more conductive heating elements can be trapped between said part and the wall of said channel in electrical connection with said part. The channel member has a surface which supports said part within the channel in a position spaced from the base of the channel in a direction towards the open face of the channel.

  • Patent number: 4295495
Abstract: A connection nipple for providing fluid communication with the interior of the container, such as for example a blood bag or the like. The connection nipple comprises a hollow tubular member having a first end which is adapted to be sealingly inserted within the blood bag and a second open end disposed externally of the blood bag. A circumferential rib member is provided circumferentially about the hollow tubular member intermediate the first and second ends. The circumferential rib has a cross-section which tapers substantially to a point to define a connection line about the circumference of the hollow tubular member. A releasable sealing sleeve member is integrally connected to the hollow tubular member in the vicinity of the connection line, and sealing surrounds and completely encloses the second open end of the tubular member to thereby prevent fluid communication with the interior of the blood bag through the second open end.

  • Patent number: 4294412
Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus and method for measuring, during operation, the degree of sharpness of grindstones in a wood pulp grinding machine of the type where one motor drives two grindstones, each having two or more pockets for loading timber. In accordance with the apparatus and method, the power of the motor and the feed rates of the pockets are simultaneously measured. After a predetermined time interval, during which the operating conditions of the machine change, these measurements are made again. The degree of sharpness of the grindstones can then be calculated using the measured values of power and feed rates.

  • Patent number: 4293805
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for sensing a location on a commutator and, in response thereto, actuating a tool for performing an operation on the commutator. The apparatus includes a device for mounting the commutator for rotation so that it may be indexed to successive commutator bars which are to be worked on. There is also a light source and a device for directing light from the source to the surface of the commutator, and a device for directing the reflection of light from the commutator surface to a sensing device. When the light beam impinges on a non-reflective area of the commutator so that the sensing device is not actuated, the sensing device signals a control circuit for stopping the rotation of said commutator and for actuating a tool for performing an operation on the commutator. In order to prevent the interference of ambient light with the operation of the sensing apparatus, a protective housing is provided for at least partially enclosing the light-directing devices.
