  • Patent number: 4361397
Abstract: An improved cleaning apparatus for a copying machine includes, in addition to a conventional magnetic brush-type device in which a rotatable sleeve partially immersed in developer surrounds a group of magnets, a magnetic member disposed immediately upstream of the normal cleaning position at which the magnetic brush sleeve is brought into predetermined proximity with the photosensitive member. The magnetic member is located closely adjacent the surface of the photosensitive surface so that residual developer particles remaining on the photosensitive surface are magnetically attracted to the magnetic member prior to and for the purpose of supplementing conventional magnetic brush cleaning immediately downstream therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4358102
Abstract: A copy sheet retaining cassette having a cutout or gate substantially centrally defined in each side wall of the cassette is further provided with a reinforcing plate pivotally mounted at a forward portion of each side wall. As the cassette is inserted into the interior of a copying machine, each reinforcing plate is moved to a substantially horizontal position at which it bridges the gate defined in the respective side wall so as to reinforce the cassette structure. A cassette holding piece carried on each reinforcing member operatively engages a cooperating machine member to stabilize the loaded cassette within the machine interior, and further carries an elastic member for engagement with the topmost ones of the copy sheets stacked in the cassette to prevent skewed feeding of the topmost sheet therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4357092
Abstract: In an electrophotographic copying apparatus a substantial saving of space is realized at the image-transfer-separation area by providing the transfer electrode with a shield having an open face opposite the photosensitive drum and an open end adjacent which a grounded separation roller is mounted. The separation roller acts as an end plate of the shield and receives a charge from the transfer electrode. The charged separation roller rotating at the same peripheral speed as the drum thereby attracts the transfer paper from the drum to the roller, thereby separating the paper from the drum.

  • Patent number: 4357097
Abstract: A toner recovery device is provided in an electrostatic recording apparatus through the arrangement of an endless nonmagnetic belt extending about a cylinder mounted coaxially with the drum. The belt moves from the drum to an idler located at the top of a toner supply bin. A blade is provided for scraping toner from the drum into contact with the belt on the cylinder. Magnets mounted about the inside of the cylinder attract the scraped off toner to the belt when it is on the drum. The belt carries the attracted toner from off the drum to the idler in the supply bin. Toner drops from the belt into the supply bin where it is mixed with the toner already therein.

  • Patent number: 4356583
Abstract: A liquid-operated reciprocating prime mover assembly includes upper and lower reservoirs formed of interlocking cylinders enabling relative expansion and contraction of the interior volumes thereof, and a shuttle valve disposed intermediately and connectingly between the upper and lower reservoirs for receiving a stream of operating liquid and directing the same alternatingly between the reservoirs. As the liquid is directed to each reservoir that reservoir is caused to expand, carrying the shuttle valve in a first direction along a rectilinear path, while when fed to the other reservoir the liquid causes the valve to be correspondingly carried in the opposite direction along the path. A body washing apparatus incorporating the prime mover assembly further includes an operatively rotatable brush assembly carried along the rectilinear path and supporting a brush rotatable as the shuttle valve traverses the path for cleansing contact with a user's body.

  • Patent number: 4350416
Abstract: A compact zoom lens of mechanical compensation type is described which comprises first, second, third and fourth lens groups arranged so that variation of image position caused when the second lens group is moved along the optical axis for the purpose of varying the focal length is compensated by moving the third lens group so as to form a locus of points concave toward the object side. The zoom lens as a whole is made compact by compactly arranging the vari-focal lens groups, which comprise the first through third lens groups, by making the amounts of movements of the second and third lens groups small and by arranging the vari-focal lens group itself so that the focal length of the fourth lens group becomes short.

  • Patent number: 4350328
Abstract: A sheet feeding apparatus includes a pivotally disposed tray for supporting a stack of sheets thereon, a sheet feeding roller positionally fixed proximate the leading edge of the uppermost sheet of a stack on the tray, a biasing member for urging the tray in opposition to the fixed feeding roller so that the uppermost sheet of the stack is pressed into frictional contact with the roller, and a wedge-shaped supplemental displacement member of a relatively light specific gravity material disposed intermediate the tray and a sheet stack supported thereon to displace the tray with respect to the feeding roller by an amount greater than that displacement otherwise imparted to the tray by sheets stacked thereon so as to increase the frictional feeding force with which the uppermost sheet is pressed against the feeding roller by the biasing member and thereby facilitate feeding of sheets having properties that might otherwise interfere with normal feeding from the tray.

  • Patent number: 4349792
Abstract: A pi pad attenuator for microwave systems is formed on an insulating substrate in the form of a small card or chip. Resist material covers the substrate, and input and output conductors are plated over the resist in the desired configuration. Resist material is removed to leave conductors interconnected in a predetermined pattern by individual sections of resist to form the pi pad. Characteristics of the attenuator are determined by the area of the remaining resist sections and/or the thickness of the applied resist.

  • Patent number: 4345830
Abstract: A motor driven type camera includes a shutter charging motor, a film winding motor, and a selecting member selectively operable for preventing only the film winding motor from being driven so as to enable selective performance of multiple exposures. A logic driven automatic restoration circuit activates a solenoid to return the selecting member to its inoperative condition following completion of a user-initiated multiple exposure to thereby prevent a subsequent inadvertent exposure of the same frame of film as a consequence of the user's having forgotten to return the selecting member to its normal or initial position.

  • Patent number: 4342468
Abstract: A ski brake fitted on the heel-retaining unit of a ski binding has two rotatable arms actuated by a battery-powered reversible electric motor which is engaged with an arm-actuating mechanism. A double-throw contactor associated with the actuating mechanism co-operates with a spring-loaded pusher. When the ski boot is inserted in the ski binding, the pusher is moved away from the contactor and the motor produces a pivotal displacement of the arms to their inactive position. When the boot becomes detached from the binding, the pusher spring applies the pusher against the contactor, the motor is started-up and produces a pivotal displacement of the arms to their active braking position.
