  • Patent number: 6223780
Abstract: A textile planar structure for paper machine cloths, transport belts or filtering means has two or more plies, each of which has structural yarns in both the machine and cross-machine directions that bind at least two plies together, and optionally, structural yarns which do not bind the plies together, but which cooperate with the binding structural yarns to form a uniform weave pattern. At least one ply has a group of adjacent structural yarns running in the same direction that alternate in their position within the planar structure, such that when one yarn binds one ply, another yarn in the same group binds another ply, and vice versa. When a binding structural yarn from an adjacently disposed group crosses from a first ply into an inter-ply space between the plies, another yarn from the same adjacently disposed group crosses from a second ply into the inter-ply space without the binding structural yarns laying under or over each other.

  • Patent number: 6216667
Abstract: The invention relates to a system and method for engine braking a four-stroke internal combustion engine. The engine has for each cylinder at least one inlet valve and at least one exhaust valve for controlling communication between a combustion chamber in the cylinder and an inlet system and an exhaust system, respectively. In addition, each cylinder communicates with an independent high pressure transfer passage via individual transfer valves disposed at each cylinder. The transfer valves, respectively, put each cylinder at the early part of its compression stroke in communication with the high pressure transfer passage that has been filled with high pressure air by another cylinder at the later part of its compression stroke. Opening the exhaust valve to further decompress the cylinder nearing the end of its compression stroke preferably follows this process.

  • Patent number: 6214050
Abstract: An expandable implant is capable of extruding material during expansion. The expandable implant comprises an anchor structure and a movable structure. The anchor structure is adapted to be inserted at least partially into a bone or between two bones, and is adapted to be secured thereto by expansion. The movable structure is operatively connected to the anchor structure so that movement of the movable structure with respect to the anchor structure causes expansion of the implant and at least partial extrusion of material contained within the implant. Preferably, the implant also includes an actuation device which connects the anchor structure to the movable structure, and the material which is at least partially extruded is an osteogenic material. In response to mechanical manipulation, the actuation device can move the movable structure with respect to the anchor structure in a first predetermined direction which causes expansion of the implant and reduces the volume of a cavity within the implant.

  • Patent number: 6197114
Abstract: A method and system are provided for adjusting a discharge width of a powder feeder. The system includes a supply hopper that is spaced from the powder feeder. The powder feeder includes a receiving opening and a discharge opening and at least one adjustable wall. Preferably, two adjustable walls are provided. Movement of the two adjustable walls provides variations in the width of the discharge opening and therefore facilitates use of the powder feeder on target volumes or target areas having different widths. A rotatable auger brush is in communication with the supply hopper for causing powder withdrawn from the supply hopper to be transported to the powder feeder and disposed uniformly across the receiving opening of the powder feeder. The brush is immersed within the powder and extends across the receiving opening of the powder feeder, and maintains a filled level powder feeder. The powder feeder is particularly well-suited for use in a coating apparatus, as well as a dual-side coating apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6174574
Abstract: A semi-finished wood simulating product and method is disclosed. The product is manufactured by providing a substrate having at least one surface to be finished. A liquid basecoat is applied on the substrate and dried. A wood grain pattern is deposited, in liquid form, on the basecoat. Some of the pattern is transferred from the originally deposited position on the basecoat to a subsequent position. The pattern is then cured. A polymerizable protective coating is applied onto the substrate overlying the basecoat and the pattern. The protective coating seals the substrate and is adapted for accepting a colorant to be applied by an end user. The protective coating is then polymerized. Additionally, if a porous substrate is provided, a sealer is applied prior to the liquid basecoat and is then cured.
