  • Patent number: 5237346
Abstract: An integrated thin film electrographic writing head. The writing head has integrated therein a plurality of marking electrodes or nibs arranged in a linear array for writing onto a medium, and a plurality of high voltage driving circuits for driving the nibs. The write head also includes a plurality of latches each connected to the high voltage driving circuits, a plurality of memory cells each connected to the latches, a plurality of buffers, each buffer supplying a select line to the plurality of memory cells, and a plurality of selection elements, supplying a selection signal to each of the buffers to drive a segment of memory cells. The integrated memory means and latching means allow for simultaneous latching and writing of an entire scanline of data.

  • Patent number: 5225855
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively setting the distance between the write head of an electrographic printing apparatus and a recording medium in combination with the use of a gas, present in the gap between the medium and the write head whereby the gas has a Paschen curve minimum lower than the Paschen curve for air. The combination of increasing the distance of the head from the medium along with the use of a gas as specified decreases the amount of flare while decreasing dropout and maintaining image density.

  • Patent number: 5212566
Abstract: An electronic reprographic system with a scanner for scanning the document pages of a job and converting the document images scanned to pixels, a printer for making prints of the documents from the pixels in accordance with job programming instructions, a controller section with memory for use by both the scanner and the printer simultaneously, the scanner and printer operating asynchronously with respect to one another, the ability to abort scanning of a document when either the scanner or printer runs out of allocated system memory during operation, the system memory getting reallocated in preparation of a new scan, and the document that was not completely scanned getting rescanned.

  • Patent number: 5206735
Abstract: An electronic printer with a scanner for scanning the document pages of a job and converting the document images scanned to pixels, a printer for making prints of the documents from the pixels in accordance with job programming instructions, the scanner and printer operating asynchronously with respect to one another, and interruption of a job to process a special job is effected by interrupting the job currently being scanned by the scanner to scan the special job while continuing printing of other jobs in the print queue, and when the special job is ready, interrupting the job being printed to print the special job while resuming scanning of the interrupted job, and then continuing the printing of the interrupted job upon completion of the special job.

  • Patent number: 5200770
Abstract: Provided is a system for reducing unwanted background writing effects caused by an elevated OFF voltage state on a print head in an electrographic printing system. This system allows for the OFF voltage to be elevated through the use of modulated OFF states. The OFF voltage is pulsed, or modulated, between a required OFF voltage and a voltage less than the required OFF voltage, during an OFF state, thus reducing erroneous background writing events while maintaining image quality. The system provides a modulated voltage source to be used during the OFF state and an additional constant voltage source to be used during a writing state.

  • Patent number: 5166960
Abstract: An improved shift register assembly having an integrated multi-phased dynamic shift register with a corresponding multi-phased driving buffer for addressing elements of an array. The shift register and buffer combination is used to select segments on the array having a common select line thus reducing the number of input lines needed to address such an array. Furthermore, the multi-phased operation of the shift register allows for faster operation than tyhat of a traditional shift register setup.

  • Patent number: 5148268
Abstract: A color image sensor array for both synchronous and asynchronous operation, especially adapted for using fabricated full width arrays, in which the chip has three photosites per pixel. The control circuit for charge transfer uses several components in common and requires no memory buffers to obtain full color information for each pixel on a page being scanned.
