Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for correcting for gain changes in detectors in a guided vehicle. In one version of the invention, an on board light source is used to generate a reference set of detector gains, which are stored in computer memory. The on board light source is then pulsed at subsequent times and the signals generated by the detectors are compared to the reference set of detector gains to determine whether any gains have changed.

Abstract: A computerized drop safe running control and security software on a central processing unit controlling (CPU) operating features on and access to the drop safe. A user hierarchy has different access policies for making different transactions into the safe. Vault door access is controlled by the CPU to allow user access according to enabled policies. Transactions into and out of the safe vaults, motovend tube dispenser, and currency recyclers are recorded by the amounts and the user making the transaction into a memory coupled to the CPU. This data is also reported to a point of sale control interface at another location using a modem or Ethernet connection. The CPU can also receive data and control inputs by the modem and Ethernet, permitting centralized accounting and vending control options. A back office at the store can also easily access the safe for data retrieval or control inputs into the CPU using an Ethernet local area network computer system.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides an air grille assembly for use especially with air conditioning and heating ducts, having a detachable grille constructed of a relatively thick material, such as wood, synthetic wood, vinyl or the like. The grille can mount against the structure and be coupled to a housing of thinner material that can fit in a standard-sized opening, and leave enough room for a standard-sized filter commensurate with such opening. Further, the disclosure can also provide an air grille assembly having a detachable grille with an exposed exterior frame with no movable or visible hardware, and can be removed from a housing by lifting the grille frame straight up or over, angling out the bottom and then sliding in the opposite direction. The grille assembly can be coupled into a structure's opening, and can include flanges to help ensure proper mounting without the use of special tools.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods for utilizing a form of optimized suspension culture to examine the infectivity of pathogenic organisms and agents in human cells and tissues. Also provided are methods using a rotating wall vessel to predict chemosensitivity of cells and tissues to toxins and chemotherapeutic agents. These culture conditions potentiate spatial colocalization and three-dimensional assembly of individual cells into large aggregates which more closely resemble the in vivo tissue equivalent. In this environment, dissociated cells can assemble and differentiate into macroscopic tissue aggregates several millimeters in size. These culture conditions allow for better cellular differentiation and formation of three-dimensional cellular aggregates, more efficient cell-to-cell interactions, the in in vivo-like exchange of growth factors and greater molecular scaffolding facilitating mechanical stability for cells.

Abstract: A composition for cleaning bearings in rotating equipment and industrial machinery that contains powdered limestone having a high calcium content dispersed in a calcium sulfonate grease, together with a colorant that readily enables a user to differentiate between contaminated grease, cleaning composition and fresh grease. A method is also disclosed that enables a user to clean and re-lubricate bearings without the need for removing the bearings from service or for shutting down the associated equipment or machinery.

Abstract: A carrier having a body with arcuate sidewall sections and an integrally formed base, the body being sufficiently rigid to support a plurality of individual canned or bottled beverages. The carrier also includes an internal coolant chamber, a durable handle, and an elastomeric, thermally insulative band that is releasably securable around the body to maintain the beverages in supported contact with the body until removed for consumption of the contained beverage. Upon removal of all beverage containers from the carrier, the band desirably contracts into engagement with the projecting portions of the body perimeter to reduce the overall volume defined by the carrier. Shoulders are preferably provided on the body of the carrier to assist in maintaining the elastomeric band in a preferred positional alignment relative to the body.
