  • Patent number: 5865314
Abstract: An injectable medication carrying case is disclosed which includes a top panel, a bottom panel opposing the top panel, two opposing side panels, two opposing end panels, and a thermally-insulating divider panel. The top panel, bottom panel, side panels and end panels can be joined together in standard fashion at respective edges of the carrying case. The divider panel partitions the body portion of the case into two distinct thermally-insulated sides. In this arrangement, the patient is able to selectively store his injectable medication supplies in a unitary carrying case, as opposed to a plurality of carrying cases.

  • Patent number: 5866187
Abstract: A pelletized shortening is prepared by a process which includes melting, cooling, solidifying and extruding vegetable oil to provide shortening pellets or chunks which, without requiring further processing, resist clumping together at at least moderate temperatures of about 70.degree. F. (about 21.degree. C.). The pelletized shortening has a hardness or solid fat profile which is especially suitable for baking applications and imparts a tenderizing effect in bakery type products while still providing a shortening in a form that is easy to handle inasmuch as it is pourable or able to be metered in a flowing particulate style. While it has relatively high solids at room temperature or storage conditions, the solids content of the pelletized shortening dissipates rapidly enough such that the solids reduction will provide the desired tenderizing effect in dough products including biscuits and pizza crusts.

  • Patent number: 5865089
Abstract: A linear thruster is disclosed in which a load beam is linearly moved relative to a guide beam by fluid power. One or both of the beams are multisided in cross-section to substantially increase the linear bearing area between the beams and substantially increase the strength of the linear thruster against side forces as well as moments while permitting a substantial reduction in the volumetric space consumed by the linear thruster. The fluid power and the energy inputs to the linear thruster may all be positioned at one end of the guide beam.

  • Patent number: 5863157
Abstract: A throwaway ball end mill comprising an end mill body and a tip pressed by a clamp screw onto a cutout formed at the forward end of the end mill body. The cutout is formed in a longitudinal direction with respect to the end mill body, and a pair of lateral regions forked by the cutout have opposite flat surfaces, the lateral regions have clamp holes formed in a direction making a right angle with the cutout, one clamp hole has a conical surface extending toward the periphery of the corresponding lateral region, and the other clamp hole has a female thread formed therein, the centerline of the conical surface is deviated from that of the clamp holes toward the base end of the end mill body. When the clamp screw is tightened with the tip inserted in the cutout, the tip is pressed against the end of the cutout accordingly, and at the same time one lateral region is bent toward the other lateral region.

  • Patent number: 5861185
Abstract: The invention provides for the manufacture of food products. In one preferred form, methods and apparatus are provided for cutting individual confectionery products from a slab or strip of product material into a product with a particular silhouette. In another form, the invention provides methods and apparatus for both cutting and forming individual confectionery products from strips or ropes. The process can be used for simply forming products from pre-cut segments or other blanks of confectionery material, including imparting a relatively precise texture, finish or detail to such products. The products may, but need not, be subsequently enrobed in chocolate or another coating. In still other embodiments, the confectionery material may comprise grains of a puffed cereal. In some instances, a matrix of plasticizable material holds the grains together and the confectionery material may also include, in addition to the puffed cereal, candied fruit bits, dry fruits, nuts, or the like.

  • Patent number: 5857221
Abstract: A pair of swim goggles for use during water activity, such as swimming. A pair of eyecups are worn by the user and held in place by a pair of elastic cords that encircle the user's head. The cords connect the eyecups together and a nose bridge therebetween. The cords are received within track portions on opposing sides of a centerline the eyecups and held in position by a plastic retainer. The cords are further positioned about the user's head and secured into position by a toggle lock engageable with the cords on the back of the user's head.

  • Patent number: 5855729
Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a lining material into a pipeline includes an elongated carrier device having a hollow central portion which encloses a liner-bladder assembly. The liner-bladder assembly includes an elongated inflation bladder which engages an open end of the carrier device and expands under fluid pressure out of the carrier device. The pipe liner is frangibly attached to the inflation bladder such that its attachment anchors the liner with respect to the open end of the carrier device to permit accurate placement of the liner within a pipeline proximate to a compromised section of the pipeline. The frangible connection breaks when the carrier device and inflation bladder are removed from the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 5850344
Abstract: A medication dispensing and timing system includes a central monitoring computer which generates and sends an address-specific medication prompting message in accordance with a prescribed medication dispensing schedule over a two-way paging system to a communicator carried by a patient. The communicator includes receiver circuitry which responds to the prompt message to generate a display and audible alarm to alert the patient. Upon the patient acknowledging the message by actuating a switch on the communicator transmitter circuitry within the pager sends a reply message to the monitoring computer. In the event that a reply message is not received within a predetermined time period following the dispensing event, the computer initiates an alternative communication procedure which includes telephone calls to 1) the patient, 2) his doctor, 3) his care provider, or 4) an emergency contact.

  • Patent number: 5848865
Abstract: A shield for attachment to and removal from a lading tie-down strap for shielding the strap from learing engagement with a corner of lading or cargo. The shield is preferably molded from a plastic material such as polyurethane and is in the form of a generally rectangular shaped pad. The pad has two end portions interconnected by a transverse live hinge area. Each end portion has an integrally formed raised flap extending transversely thereacross. One of the flaps is hinged adjacent one longitudinal edge of the tab while the other flap is hinged adjacent the opposite side or edge. The distal end of each flap has a hook formation on its underside which is open toward the proximal end of the flap. In use, a tie-down strap is inserted under the flaps which may be temporarily lifted to permit insertion. One edge of the tie-down strap will be inserted in one of the hooks while the opposite edge of the strap will be inserted in the hook of the other strap.

  • Patent number: 5846584
Abstract: A apparatus and method for infusing flavors into cereal grains and agglomerating the grains into a unitary food product. Grains of cereal, powdered soluble flavors and a moisturizing liquid are supplied to a mixer. The flavors, liquid and cereal grains are thoroughly mixed and the grains surface moisturized and then discharged into a product-forming chamber which is ultrasonically energized for a sufficient period of time so that the flavors are infused within the interiors of the grains which are agglomerated into a unitary product.
