  • Patent number: 6769502
Abstract: The clutch oil pressure (PC1) supplied to a hydraulic controller of an automatic transmission is detected. If it is detected that the clutch oil pressure (PC1) is less than or equal to a first threshold value PA when a first oil pump cooperative with a drive power source is to stop, the second oil pump is driven. Therefore, after the oil pressure (for example, PY) remaining from the first oil pump has decreased, the second oil pump is driven, and an oil pressure (PX) needed for the hydraulic control of friction engagement elements is maintained. If it is detected that the clutch oil pressure (PC1) is greater than or equal to a second threshold value (PB) when the first oil pump is to be driven, the second oil pump is stopped. Therefore, the second oil pump is stopped when the oil pressure provided by the first oil pump rises to such a level that the oil pressure (PX) can be secured. Thus, the load on the second oil pump is reduced so as to allow it to be reduced in size.

  • Patent number: 6772185
Abstract: An object is to provide a time-series prediction method and apparatus utilizing wavelet coefficient series which can accurately predict a prediction value of an original time series. When a time-series prediction utilizing wavelet coefficient series is performed, a time series is wavelet-transformed by use of a wavelet transformation unit in order to decompose the time series into a plurality of time series which are band-restricted in the frequency domain, predicted values of frequency components obtained as a result of decomposition are predicted by use of corresponding prediction units, and the prediction values of the respective frequency components are reconstructed by use of an inverse wavelet transformation unit to thereby obtain a prediction value of the original time series.

  • Patent number: 6758293
Abstract: A control system for a hybrid vehicle accurately determines the start (i.e. ignition) of an internal combustion engine and suppresses the peak PK in the actual rotational speed. The hybrid vehicle is provided with a motor control unit for, at the time of starting the internal combustion engine, driving the motor to rotate at a target motor rotational speed and with a vehicle control unit for, when the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine has reached a predetermined value, outputting an ignition command to start the internal combustion engine. After the ignition command is output to the internal combustion engine, the vehicle control unit calculates the difference between the target rotational speed of the motor and the actual rotational speed of the motor, and if the difference exceeds a predetermined value, determines that the ignition of the internal combustion engine has been effected. In this manner, the start of the internal combustion engine can be accurately detected.

  • Patent number: 6751925
Abstract: The present invention provides a filling apparatus establishing positional coincidence between creases preformed in a packaging material and actual creases to thereby improve the appearance of a packaging container. A light source irradiates a portion of the outer circumferential surface of a packaging material tube which includes an overlap. A sensor receives light emitted from the light source and reflected from the outer circumferential surface of the tube. The overlap is detected as a peak in the sensor output. Light reflected from an edge portion of the packaging material exhibits greater intensity and is seen as a peak in the sensor output indicating position of the overlap.

  • Patent number: 6753460
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods to control the spread of recombinant DNA molecules between sexually compatible plants of differing genetic composition. The invention describes the production of transgenic plants that comprise recombinant traits of interest or concern linked to repressible lethal genes. The lethal genes are blocked by the action of repressor molecules produced by the expression of repressor genes located at a different genetic locus. The lethal phenotype is only expressed after the segregation of the repressible lethal gene construct and the repressor gene following meiosis. The present invention may be employed for both open-pollinated and hybrid seed production systems and may be used to maintain genetic purity by blocking unintended introgression of genes from plants devoid of the specific repressor gene.

Abstract: An air-driven dental instrument (10) includes a replaceable vibrator module (16) detachably accommodated in an axial lodgment defined by an elongated outer casing (14) comprised of a frontal cap (22A) and a main body (26A) coupled with each other. When the cap (22A) is coupled, the module (16) is axially positioned against the cap (22A) by a positioning sleeve (90A) and is rotationally locked against the sleeve (90A) by a hexagonal formation (128) engaging into cutouts (136) formed on a housing (134). When the cap (22A) is disconnected from the main body (26A), the module (16) is retained by the housing (134) but is partly exposed therefrom. • Patent number: 6753459
Abstract: Genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods are taught for production of transgenic plants which can be selectively removed from a growing site by application of a chemical agent or physiological stress. The invention links a target gene for the trait of commercial interest to a conditionally lethal gene, which can be selectively expressed to cause plant death. By use of the genetic constructs, transformation vectors and methods of the present invention, invasion of environments and contamination of commercial non-engineered productions by transgenic plants can be avoided. Methods are also taught for transformation of Brassica species.
