  • Patent number: 6662904
Abstract: A lubricating apparatus, for a friction engagement element that engages a rotatable member with a case includes a hub connected to the rotatable member, friction members disposed between the hub and the case, a hydraulic servo for engaging the friction members, and an oil passage for supplying lubricant from the case to the friction members. A discharge opening of the oil passage is formed at a position which is radially inward of the friction members and which is axially to a side of the friction members. The discharge opening is directed toward the friction members. A weir member for restricting escape of lubricant in the axial direction through a gap between the hub and the friction members is provided at the other axial side of the friction members. Therefore, the axial escape of lubricant exiting the friction members can be prevented by a non-contact leakage restriction that does not cause drag resistance.

  • Patent number: 6663552
Abstract: A packaging container production method includes the steps of: folding a folding allowance formed along one edge of a blank, which is formed from a paper substrate and having a predetermined shape, to thereby form a seal allowance; and superposing the seal allowance and another edge of the blank on each other and longitudinally sealing the resultant overlap portion to thereby form a tubular body. In the folding step, the folding allowance is pressed against a running folding belt to thereby fold the folding allowance. Since the folding belt is used instead of a die in order to fold the folding allowance, even when the thickness, water content, hardness, and other properties of a paper substrate vary among the blanks, the folded state of the folding allowance can be stabilized through adjustment of the position of a pulley. Thus, the quality of packaging containers can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6657738
Abstract: The apparatus recognizes line length of character strings and judges if a line is longer than a threshold length. Slewing addition control divides a character string longer than the threshold length into two lines. When the number of inputted characters exceeds that allowed in the line, that part of the character string having the number of characters allowed for the line and that part of the characters overflowing the number of characters allowed in the line are displayed in different manners. The apparatus also calculates a ratio of lengths of a pair of specific lines to one or more other pairs, determines a character-size-type based on the ratios thus obtained, determines basic character sizes of the respective lines based on the character-size-type and then determines a character size for each line based on the length information and the basic character size of each line.
