Abstract: In combination with resonant sonic earth drilling components, and for particular use in retrieving a core sample in a core barrel seated against an internal shoulder in a sonically driven drill bit, a resilient axial loading device not only urges the bottom of the core barrel into continuous contact with the seat but also cushions the core barrel from the sonic energy in the drill bit, thereby minimizing damage to the core sample.
Abstract: An intraoperative method is provided for the restoration of the bearing surface smoothness of an otherwise well-fixed and well-aligned femoral knee component. This method is an alternative, in appropriate circumstances, to total component replacement. Polishing and buffing techniques are disclosed which substantially reduce the depth and areal extent of scratches and abrasions resulting from metal to metal contact, particularly between a worn, metal-backed patellar component and a femoral component, as well as abrasions resulting from migration of debris that imbeds itself in plastic bearing surfaces prior to surgical reintervention, primarily in the distal condyle areas. Debris generated by the polishing process, along with saline solution, or the like, washes used to flush the debris are isolated from the surgical field by a specially designed draping system.
Abstract: A computer system, including a relational database, especially for use by an inspector at a Motor Vehicle Inspection facility, for capturing, storing, retrieving, and displaying visual images disclosing the identification and location of vehicle Emission Control System (ECS) components. A method for systematically creating, updating, and using the relational database is also disclosed. The database is composed of three data libraries, one for ECS Vehicle Underhood Images, one for ECS Component Overlays, and another for ECS Component Lists. These libraries include visual and factual information regarding the identity and location of ECS required components for a plurality of vehicles. The libraries are maintained and used in the database in such a way as to minimize storage space and maximize the speed of data access and display.

Abstract: A pickup truck tailgate construction is provided which enables the tailgate to be used either (1) in customary manner, with the bottom of the tailgate in hinged relation with the after end of the bed so that the tailgate can be pivoted between vertical closed position and horizontal open position or (2) in a modified fashion, in which the top of the tailgate is pivotally arranged so that the bottom of the tailgate can be positioned several inches rearwardly from the after end of the bed. The rectangular gap between the bottom of the tailgate and the adjacent after end of the bed and the triangular gaps between the opposite ends of the tailgate and the adjacent after ends of the side walls are spanned by correspondingly shaped mesh panels which allow free flow of air therethrough. Improved fuel efficiency and handling of the vehicle results from the aerodynamically enhanced construction.
