  • Patent number: 6371041
Abstract: An undersea streamline vehicle having a unique system for gliding ascent, gliding descent, both with and without engine power, and for hovering in the sea for exploratory or research purposes by the provision in the vehicle of buoyancy chambers or bladders offset from the vehicle center of gravity, wherein the chambers include a piston element in a cylinder open to the sea environment. A control system effects selected positioning of the piston, thereby to regulate inflow of the sea into the cylinder or expulsion of sea water from the cylinder, thereby to vary the buoyancy of the vehicle vis-à-vis its center of gravity to control the rate of glide of the vehicle upwardly or downwardly, or to attain a stationary hover position. Ailerons and tail planes facilitate controlled direction of travel. A compressed air system precludes leakage of seawater into the buoyancy chamber.

  • Patent number: 6092252
Abstract: A motor-driven toothbrush including a brush head disposed at an angle to the brush handle wherein the brush head partakes of rotary or arcuate motion, wherein the handle includes a flexible or articulated section permitting the brush head and an end portion of the handle to deflect with respect to the remainder of the handle as the brush head engages the teeth. The elastic section may be a flexible portion or may be a bellows-like member. The drive for the brush head extends through the elastic section and to the brush head. The flexible section permits the brush head to tilt angularly through an angle either greater or less than 90 degrees with respect to the axis of the brush handle. The brush head is attachable to a separate handle having a drive device.

  • Patent number: 5970684
Abstract: A plate to facilitate the application of leverage forces onto the upper portions of a top line seal on a cereal bag in a carton, for example, whereby separating the upper bag portions and rupturing the seal can be effected by persons of limited manipulative strength as well as by those who encounter difficulty in opening such seals, whereby use of sharp implements is avoided. The plate includes a narrower slot for receiving the bag upper portions communicating with a wider central aperture whereat separating forces are applied. The plate is of sufficient width to permit the knuckles and fingers of the hand to bear against the plate for leverage when tearing the seal.

  • Patent number: 5782810
Abstract: An improved readily fabricated catheter having a detectable marker incorporated therein wherein the catheter is a conventional flexible and transparent polymeric tube of any usual or desired length, but wherein one end of which is relieved to define a socket or counterbore of an internal diameter somewhat greater than the normal fluid flow bore of the tubing. The catheter further includes a shorter length of tubing having at one end a usual angled or cut face, and having at its other end a short neck of reduced diameter carrying thereon a detectable metallic, magnetic, or radiopaque marker element. The two components are easily telescoped together over their relatively short lengths to confine the marker between the inside and outside walls of the tubing, and the telescoped portions are sealed together to prevent fluid flow or leakage therethrough.
