  • Patent number: 5984713
Abstract: A modular telephone plug comprises a one piece insulation housing having a hollow body with two portions, and plural contacts mounted at one end or tip thereof. A first portion accommodates a cable having an outer insulation jacket enclosing a number of individual conductors. A second portion is directly beneath the contacts. A sleeve accommodates untwisted ends of individual conductors extending from the outer insulation jacket. The sleeve is configured to be placed into the second portion to facilitate successful electrical termination of the contacts with the individual conductors accommodated within the sleeve. The sleeve enables shortening of untwisted conductor length used in the connector to a short length, such as in a range below 8 mm and preferably approximately 5 mm, to reduce Near End Cross Talk (NEXT) when data is transmitted by means of the telephone plug, particularly for connectors of Category 5 and higher.

  • Patent number: 5987349
Abstract: System for sensing at least two points on an object for determining the position and orientation of the object relative to another object. Two light emitters mounted in spaced relation to each other on an external portion of an invasive probe remaining outside an object into which an invasive tip is inserted are sequentially strobed to emit light. Three light sensors or detectors, the positions of which are known with respect to a predetermined coordinate system, detect the positions of the two light emitters positioned on the probe. A computer connected to the probe and to the light sensors receives data from the sensors and determines the position and orientation of the probe relative to the predetermined coordinate system.

  • Patent number: 5987075
Abstract: An FSK signal receiver includes an amplifier which amplifies a first FSK signal at an adjustable gain. A frequency converter converts an output signal from the amplifier into a second FSK signal having a frequency lower than a frequency of the first FSK signal. A demodulator demodulates the second FSK signal into a baseband signal. A bit-state detector detects a bit state from the baseband signal in response to a threshold. A calculator calculates a number of times of occurrence of a fact that the baseband signal moves across the threshold during a given time. The gain of the amplifier is adjusted in response to the number of times which is calculated by the calculator.

  • Patent number: 5979598
Abstract: An intake silencer is designed as a broadband silencer for noises causes by intake of combustion air into internal combustion engines. To achieve the broadband effect, an axial sequence of resonator chambers with different volumes is formed by partitions which extend transversely to the intake pipe in a resonator that surrounds the intake pipe Each resonator chamber communicates through openings in the wall of the intake pipe with the air sucked through the intake pipe. By matching the open surface area of the openings, the thickness of the wall of the intake pipe in the area of the openings and the volume of the resonator chambers, a continuous broadband silencing may be set even over a wide frequency range, the range of practical interest in the present application extending combustion from to 1 to 10 kHz.

  • Patent number: 5982492
Abstract: The center of a semiconductor wafer relative to a rotation axis of a spindle carrying the wafer is detected by turning the spindle while a line source of optical radiation is directed at the wafer. A CCD linear optical detector array extending along a line between the spindle axis to a point beyond the wafer periphery effectively detects the amount of optical energy intercepted by the wafer. The source is turned on for a predetermined duration and the detector is read out in response to a shaft encoder detecting that the spindle has moved to each of many predetermined angles. A microprocessor responsive to the optical detector determines the length of the line each time the detector turns on by deriving an indication of the amount of optical energy accumulated by the CCD array each time the detector turns on. The microprocessor combines the determined line length indications to detect the workpiece center relative to the spindle axis.

  • Patent number: 5982099
Abstract: A gas in a vacuum plasma processing chamber is ignited to a plasma by subjecting the gas to an r.f. field derived from an r.f. source having a frequency and power level sufficient to ignite the gas into the plasma and to maintain the plasma. The r.f. field is supplied to the gas by a reactive impedance element connected via a matching network to the r.f. source. The matching network includes first and second variable reactances that control loading of the source and tuning a load, including the reactive impedance element and the plasma, to the source. The value of only one of the reactances is varied until a local maximum of a function of power coupled between the source and the load is reached. The value of only the other reactance is varied until a local maximum of the function is reached. The two varying steps are then repeated as necessary.

  • Patent number: 5982432
Abstract: In this picture signal converting apparatus, digital picture signals compressed in a DVC format are decoded to non-compressed picture signals of a 4:1:1 color component type which are composed of color difference signals and luminance signals. The color difference signals of the 4:1:1 color component type arranged in a matrix are removed on every other row to halve the number of color difference signals in a y direction, and a color difference signal is added to a position between each pair of color difference signals adjacent to each other in an x direction to double the number of color difference signals in the x direction. Therefore, converted color difference signals of a 4:2:0 color component type are produced from the color difference signals. Values of the converted color difference signals are determined according to values of the color difference signals.

  • Patent number: 5974897
Abstract: An ultrasonic flow meter for determining the flow rate of fluid flowing through tubings. The ultrasonic flow meter comprises a measuring tube having a diameter constant in its entire length, and three ring shaped oscillators disposed longitudinally along the tube so as to intimately contact the inner peripheral surface thereof with the outer peripheral surface of the tube. The central oscillator of said three oscillators is energized by electric AC energy to generate an ultrasonic wave. The thus generated ultrasonic wave is detected by means of forward and rearward oscillators. The ultrasonic wave detected by the forward oscillator and that detected by the rearward oscillator are processed by means of a comparator to obtain the flow rate of the fluid flowing through the measuring tube.

  • Patent number: 5975013
Abstract: A substantially planar coil of a vacuum plasma processor has plural turns for exciting gas in the processor to a plasma state in response to r.f. coil energization. The coil is located outside the processor and surrounded by a shield tending to cause magnetic flux coupled from peripheral portions of the coil to the gas to be less than magnetic flux coupled from interior portions of the coil to the gas. The coil is arranged so magnetic flux derived from a center portion of an area circumscribed by the coil is less than the magnetic flux derived from all other areas circumscribed by the coil. The magnetic flux is such that the density of the plasma in the processor on a processed substrate is relatively uniform even though the coil exhibits transmission line properties so there are substantial peak-to-peak current variations along the length of the coil.
