  • Patent number: 6040922
Abstract: In a communication between transmitter-side and receiver-side communication control devices, when a data communication is desired after a facsimile communication without opening a telephone line, the transmitter-side communication control device transmits a data communication shift request signal to the receiver-side communication control device based on a previous command inputted to the transmitter-side communication control device. In response to this request signal, the receiver-side communication control device switches a communication mode from a facsimile communication mode to a data communication mode, and then sends back a data communication shift acknowledge signal to the transmitter-side communication control device. In response to this acknowledge signal, the transmitter-side communication control device switches a communication mode from a facsimile communication mode to a data communication mode.

  • Patent number: 6032600
Abstract: A wind surfing apparatus formed with a hull supporting a mast and sail includes a removable daggerboard having a weighted mass in a lower end portion thereof to lessen the tendency of the hull to be unstable or flip during use. The weighted mass may either be integrally molded into the daggerboard lower portion such as with fiberglass materials, or may be releasably attached to the daggerboard to allow for selection of a desired amount of weight. The wind surfer apparatus 10 further includes a ratchet mechanism for controllably selecting and maintaining a desired orientation of the daggerboard stabilizer relative to the hull during use. A hinge connects the mast to the hull through two separate connecting mechanisms. One of the connecting mechanisms between the hinge and mast permits pivotal movement of the mast/sail unit in the plane of the sail only. The other connecting mechanism between the hinge and hull enables rotation of the mast/sail unit about the mast axis only.

  • Patent number: 6035304
Abstract: A system capable of storing the application packages and thereafter reproducing a desired one of the stored application packages at any time. The application package comprises a plurality of applications. Each of the applications comprises application data which comprises forms a main body of the application and service adding information (SAI) comprising various data including an application ID of the application. The SAIs are distributed independently from and prior to the application data. Each of the SAIs can include method IDs of methods for processing object data specified by a method processing program and a plurality of link data comprising application IDs of other applications. This permits the SAIs to form a tree structure of the applications. The methods are activated in a event driven manner.

  • Patent number: 6032028
Abstract: An FM transmitter includes I and Q channels, each deriving a baseband sinusoidal wave having a frequency determined by speech and/or music broadcast information amplitude and nominally having the same maximum amplitude. Each wave drives a different balanced mixer, each responsive to orthogonally phased carrier waves. Outputs of the mixers are added to derive a frequency modulated output wave. The channels, mixers, and circuitry associated with them tend to introduce unwanted components in the output wave. Offset, peak amplitude, phase and relative delay of the added mixed outputs are such that the unwanted components are substantially eliminated from the output wave. The sinusoidal waves are derived by DACs responsive to signals derived by a digital processor having a memory storing amplitude vs. phase position values and slope vs. phase position values that are combined in response to samples of the broadcast information.

  • Patent number: 6032085
Abstract: An electronic pocket pillbox having multiple detachable compartments each fitted with a unit-medication dispenser for different medication sizes and pharmaceutical forms is formed by a physician writing a prescription with a computer having a display and responsive to a keyboard and mouse. The computer codes and loads a prescription file into a memory of a detachable data medium, similar to a smart card. The card is put into the pillbox to supply signals to electronic circuitry in the pillbox. Each pillbox compartment is filled by a pharmacist with a number of pills of a type defined by the prescription. The pharmacist assembles the compartments to form the pillbox. The pillbox electronic circuitry responds to the detachable data medium memory to derive medication alarm signals to advise a pillbox user to take the medication.

  • Patent number: 6028982
Abstract: A particular image written in a particular paper of a particular paper size is scanned by a scanner to produce image data, a format of the image data is changed to a mail format to change the image data to mail data, the particular paper size is added to the mail data, and the mail data is transmitted from a transmitting side to a receiving side through a LAN by an electronic mail. In the receiving side, the mail data is changed to reproduced image data, and it is judged whether or not the particular paper size of the particular paper is larger than a prescribed paper size treatable on the receiving side. In cases where the particular paper size is larger than the prescribed paper size, the reproduced image data is thinned out to produce adjusted image data, and a downsized image is printed on a prescribed paper of the prescribed paper size according to the adjusted image data.

  • Patent number: 6028395
Abstract: A vacuum plasma processor for treating a workpiece with an RF plasma has a plasma excitation coil including a peripheral portion supplying a substantial magnetic flux density to peripheral portions of the plasma. Additional conducting segments spatially adjacent to and electrically connected to a segment of the peripheral portion supply additional magnetic flux having a substantial magnetic flux density to the plasma peripheral portions. The additional conductor segments are in each of four corners of the coil, being connected electrically in parallel or series to coil conductor segments forming the corners. In another embodiment, the coil includes several nested conducting corner segments. In different embodiments, the corner segments are (1) coplanar with the remainder of the coil and (2) closer to the plasma than the remainder of the coil.

  • Patent number: 6026614
Abstract: A cable braced, open air chapel or meeting hall is formed from a series of cables interconnected to each other in countertension to provide a rigid structural support to provide basic definition for the building structure. One set of cables is preferably tensioned through weights or spring assemblies imparting tension in the downward direction in turn transmitted to the second set of cables in countertension. The second set of cables may extend upwardly in a curved configuration for connection to the upper end of a support tower. The cables slidably pass through the tower through a series of passageways formed in a honeycomb-like mounting structure enabling the back ends of the cables to be anchored to the ground in a spread, fan-like configuration. The weighted or spring tensioned ends of the first cables and the ability of the second cables to pass slidably through the tower support enable the cabled arrangement to breathe as a result of thermally induced expansion and contraction.

  • Patent number: 6023967
Abstract: A method of testing wear of tires is presented. It comprises applying a single layer of reflective paint to a tread surface by spraying, and then measuring the intensity of light reflected from a matrix of blocks on the unworn tire. The tire is then run for a short distance and the wear on the tire is assessed by measuring the intensity of light at each block compared to the intensity before the test run. The wear rate is clearly indicated by the changing levels of intensity of reflected light. Multiple colors or layers of paint are unnecessary. Tread wear can be measured with greater accuracy than achieved by other paint tests. The test run can be considerably shorter than test runs utilizing other methods.

  • Patent number: 6022210
Abstract: A hot runner nozzle structure provides insulation to reduce heat transfer to a utilizing tool and to increase accuracy of temperature measurement and control. A shaft foot of extremely low heat conductivity is used to separate a point of contact between a feed tube shaft and the tool. The shaft foot may be formed of titanium for example. An insulating cap of extremely low heat conductivity is surrounds the shaft foot in the vicinity of the nozzle tip. The cap may be formed of PEEK or of titanium for example. Gaps may be provided between the insulating cap and shaft foot and between the shaft foot and feed tube shaft. In an alternate embodiment having smaller dimensions, an insulating ring is provided at the end of the feed tube shaft. The structure, combined with a positioning sleeve surrounding the feed tube shaft, permits placing a heat sensor much closer to the nozzle tip in order to obtain more accurate temperature measurements.
