  • Patent number: 4110946
Abstract: A furniture article such as a bookshelf unit has a pair of back panels which are arranged edge to edge in extension between upright side members. The outer edges of the panels are received in grooves formed in the sides. The combined width of the panels is greater than the distance between the side members so that the panels initially overlap at their inner edges. The panels are displaced to position their inner edges in butting engagement and are then snapped into a common plane with the edges remaining butted together to retain the panels under compression in the assembled condition.

  • Patent number: 4100973
Abstract: A brake release arrangement by which damage which otherwise would result from the application of excessive side loading to rotating equipment such as the boom of a digger derrick or crane is avoided. The drive system for rotating the boom includes a hydraulic motor, a non self-locking speed reducer and a spring applied, hydraulically releasable brake. Included in the brake release mechanism is a line which taps into the hydraulic line leading to the power equipment mounted on the boom and whose operation develops side loads. An adjustable pressure reducing valve in the tap line provides a fluid output at a reselected pressure to a small chamber in the brake housing. The pressurized fluid in the chamber acts on a piston which, when the side loading on the boom is great enough to cause damage, partially relaxes the brake force thus to permit slippage and back drive of the speed reducer and motor thereby to relieve the side load torque.

  • Patent number: 4100917
Abstract: A whirlpool type hydrotherapy unit includes a centrifugal pump which circulates water in a tub. The pump has a pair of outlets, one of which is a primary outlet immersed in the water to provide a whirlpool effect. A vibrating spray head accessory may be attached to a secondary outlet to provide a water spray and accompanying massage. A large volume of air is induced by aspiration to mix in with the water that discharges into the tub from the primary outlet. The pump is driven by a battery powered D. C. motor which is controlled as to speed and time of operation by solid state controls. Special circuitry also prevents operation of the motor when the battery charger is coupled to an A.C. power supply or when the voltage of the battery falls below a specified value.

  • Patent number: 4093836
Abstract: A switch structure detects acceleration in a preselected direction such as, for example, along the pitch axis of an aircraft. The switch has a spring supported mass urged toward a stable centered position within the switch housing. Acceleration displaces the mass such that it trips a spring wire switch mechanism for controlling such avionic devices as the autopilot system of the aircraft. A pair of solenoid coils are wound around the spring mass system on opposite sides of the centered position of the mass. The switch may be preflight tested by successively energizing the solenoid coils to attract the mass toward the centers of the solenoid fields, thereby artifically displacing the mass against the spring wire switches.

  • Patent number: 4090396
Abstract: To detect fluid leakage in a hydraulic directional control valve, a plate is installed between the valve and its mounting subplate. Passages through the plate connect with the pressure inlet and tank ports of the valve, while the load ports of the valve are blocked by the plate. Leaking fluid flows out of the tank port and passes through an orifice across which a pressure differential develops in proportion to the leakage rate. The pressure differential is applied to a piston which retracts an indicator knob within the plate when an unacceptable leakage rate is present. A modified form of the invention detects the combined leakage rate in the valve and the load which it controls. Rather than blocking the load ports, the modified plate has passages which connect with the load ports of the valve to deliver fluid to the load. An orifice is located in the passage of the plate which connects with the pressure inlet port of the valve.
