  • Patent number: 4085546
Abstract: Hydroponic aggregate is contained in a garden box in which plants are grown. Nutrient solution is supplied through a liquid tube from an airtight tank to an enclosed housing disposed beneath the aggregate on the floor of the box. Outlets are provided from the housing for discharging the solution to the aggregate. Air is supplied to the housing through an aeration tube. Flow of solution continues until a pool is built up on the box to a depth sufficient to submerge the lower end of the liquid tube. Air is then unable to flow up the liquid tube to displace the liquid within the tank and the liquid flow is thus stopped. A drain hose for draining off excessive liquid that may build up in the box serves alternatively as a liquid level gauge.

  • Patent number: 4083153
Abstract: A ceiling includes arched panels supported by box type beams which are adjustable in width. The sides of the beams are provided with inclined grooves in which the edges of the panels are received. The panels are flexible and tend to unflex to a flat shape, thereby retaining their edges in the beam grooves. The ceiling beams include beam members which are spaced apart by adjustable spacer brackets. A bottom panel of each beam may be opened to gain access to the beam for interior adjustment of the brackets. Light fixtures are mounted within the beams above translucent panels incorporated in the bottom beam panels. Curved wall panels supported by wall beams may be employed in combination with the ceiling. In an alternative form of the invention, upright box type beams support curved wall panels and partitions.

  • Patent number: 4082586
Abstract: A method of constructing a model tree structure and the article resulting therefrom constitute the present invention. First a full three-dimensional pattern is constructed from wire and tin-lead. The pattern is then partially flattened and placed in a rubber mold. The mold is filled in around the pattern with rubber and the entire mold with the pattern in place is heated to vulcanize the rubber and form a mold cavity conforming to the configuration of the pattern. A casting metal is provided which preferably is at least 98% lead. Up to 2% antimony may be added to increase flow characteristics. It is also permissible to include a quantity of tin. The part is cast in the mold using centrifugal casting techniques. After the part has solidified and been removed from the mold it is bent into full three-dimensional form corresponding generally to the initial shape of the pattern.

  • Patent number: 4077312
Abstract: A device which raises liquid food from a container and drops it through circulating smoke back into the container to impart a smoke flavor to the liquid. A pump or conveyor draws the liquid from the bottom of the container and forces it upwardly through a vertical conduit which terminates at its top end in a flared outlet located well above the container. An adjustable hood surrounds the conduit outlet to deflect the liquid back into the container without spilling. Conical baffles mounted on the conduit serve to deflect the liquid and increase its exposure time to the smoke.

  • Patent number: 4075843
Abstract: A hydraulic transmission operates throughout a continuous range between a neutral condition and a direct drive one to one ratio of input shaft speed to output shaft speed. The input shaft carries a rotor which provides a hydraulic pump for the input side of the transmission. Reciprocating pistons of the input pump move in camming fashion against an input side swash plate as the input shaft rotates. The fluid that is displaced in the input side pump is directed into an output side pump which is carried on the output shaft. Reciprocating pistons of the output pump are hydraulically forced against an output side swash plate to effect rotation of the output shaft. A sleeve and lever assembly controls the stroke length of the pistons of the input pump in order to vary its fluid displacement relative to that of the output pump, thereby varying the transmission ratio.

  • Patent number: 4073760
Abstract: A method of providing asphalt base coating material for pipe and a novel container for holding the coating material are the subject of the present application. An asphalt coating material comprising 10% to 25% by weight asphalt and 75% to 90% by weight sand-lime aggregate is used to coat the weld joints of pipe previously coated with similar material along its length for corrosion protection. The weld joint coating material is delivered to a coating station in easy to handle small size containers. The containers comprise no more than about 5% of the weight of the material contained thereby and are constructed primarily from a material containing at least one of the members of the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene and polyethylene-polypropylene copolymer. The containers are placed in a chopper where they are reduced in size along with the coating material. The chopped mixture of particles are then melted and stirred until a relatively even mixture of a flowable liquid is presented.

  • Patent number: 4068736
Abstract: A device for reducing noise interiorly of air distribution ducts is comprised of at least one sound attenuating module which is adapted to be placed adjacent to a noise source or installed interiorly of conventional air distribution ducts. The module has a plurality of adjacently sandwiched glass fiber layers which are separated from each other by aluminum side walls. Each one of the layers is sealed by an aluminum membrane enclosure (with the outer membranes being substantially airtight to prevent any resultant friction between air passing through the duct and the glass fiber). Noise is reduced as the sound pressure (developed by the conditioned air flow in the duct) alternately contracts and expands the compliant glass fiber media interiorly of the module, thusly dissipating energy in the form of friction between the glass fibers that are in each layer.

  • Patent number: 4067391
Abstract: A method of extracting highly viscous nonfracturable oil from earthen deposits is presented by the instant invention. A plurality of radially extending horizontal conduits direct heated hydrocarbon vapors into the formation. The vapors are selected to have a boiling point above the pour point of the viscous oil. Thus, as the vapors rise in the formation, they will be in heat exchange relationship with the viscous oil to cause the latter to flow downwardly. In addition to the thermal exchange of energy, the vapors will move toward molecular equilibrium with the viscous oil formation. This latter action will cause the vapors to "strip off" the more volatile, lower boiling components, from the descending liquid oil. The liquified oil, on the other hand, will condense the less volatile, higher boiling point fraction of the vapors.

  • Patent number: 4064595
Abstract: A hinge construction particularly designed for exterior usage is provided by the present invention. Two planar sections are comprised of complementary land portions and cutaway portions disposed in spaced apart relationship along the length of the hinge. The cutaway portions of one section receive the land portions of the other section. With such configuration only a single thickness of metal separates the hinged member from the mounting member. First and second barrel mounting sections extend in the same direction outwardly away from the respective first and second planar sections. The two barrel mounting sections in turn mount complementary hinge barrels which, when positioned in alignment, receive a hinge pin. As a result of the hinge mounting sections projecting outwardly away from the hinged member and the mounting members, a weather shield is formed to help keep moisture and dirt out of the opening that is closed by the door.
