  • Patent number: 5026350
Abstract: A set of double needles for injecting liquid medicine into a patient through a single injection point contains an inner curved needle slidably and rotatably supported within a shorter outer needle. The distal end of the inner needle can protrude from the outer needle to extend sideways, in a controlled direction and extent. The direction in which the inner needle point is inserted into the patient is determined by controllably rotating and engaging a base of the inner needle with respect to a base of the outer needle, with structure provided to prevent unintentional relative rotation of the needles. Liquid medicine may thus be infused into the body of a patient at a number of locations at a preselected depth into the body and within a zone laterally extending from the distal end of the outer needle. The inner needle, which may have a lateral hole at its end, is withdrawable within the outer needle and straightens within the latter during the course of such a withdrawal.

  • Patent number: 5027418
Abstract: A printed-circuit board inspection apparatus for checking the condition of each circuit component mounted by soldering on a printed-circuit board is disclosed in which a luminance signal obtained from the reflected light scattering from the printed-circuit board being illuminated is converted through a given threshold level to binary signals, then the binary signals and mask data are processed to calculate the ratio of an area represented by the number of binary "1" signals to an area represented by the number of binary "0" signals, and the soldering condition of the component is judged based on the area ratio. With this arrangement, the inspection is not negatively influenced by the misalignment of the component with a mating soldering land, is capable of judging the amount of solder, and can be performed automatically and efficiently.

  • Patent number: 5025366
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for realizing an integrated cache unit which may be flexibly used for cache system design. The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises both a cache memory and a cache controller on a single chip. In accordance with an alternative embodiment of the invention, the cache memory may be externally located. Flexible cache system design is achieved by the specification of desired cache features through the setting of appropriate cache option bits. The disclosed methods and apparatus support this user oriented approach to flexible system design. The actual setting of option bits may be performed under software control and allows a high performance cache system to be designed with few parts, at low cost and with the ability to perform with high efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5024758
Abstract: A horizontal flow-through coil centrifuge provides a very long continuous partition facilitating passage through a plurality of serially connected multilayer helical tubing coils subjected to a rotary motion at a selected angular velocity about a column assembly axis and, simultaneously, a revolving motion of that axis about a stationary horizontal axis at the same angular velocity therearound. The passage of a fluid mobile phase containing solute through the very long length of tubing generates a commensurately long dwell time of the solutes in the complex gravitational/centrifugal acceleration field through a relatively large volume of a fluid stationary phase held in the moving tubing, thus enabling very sensitive chromatographic separations of constituents between the two fluid phases. Gearing and speed and temperature controls are provided in the apparatus to ensure that inflow/outflow tubing remains free of twisting and allowing use at a variety of operational speeds and fluid temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5023682
Abstract: A semiconductor memory device comprises a p.sup.- -type semiconductor substrate (1), thin p.sup.+ -type regions (15, 80) formed thereon, n.sup.+ -type regions (6, 7) surrounded with the p.sup.+ -type regions (15, 80), a first gate electrode (2) formed on a charge storage region in the n.sup.+ -type region (6), and a second gate electrode (3) formed on the p.sup.+ -type region (80) and serving as a word line. The p.sup.+ -type regions (15, 80) prevent passage of electrons out of electron-hole pairs induced by alpha rays so as to prevent occurrence of soft errors. Advantageously, the thin p+ layer used to control threshold voltage for a transfer gate of the device is extended and also used for prevention of such soft errors, thus providing reduced bulk for the device. In order to reduce bulk further, the n+-type regions (6, 7) are also reduced in thickness.

  • Patent number: 5023799
Abstract: A system measures a traveling direction of a vehicle based on a direction toward a coordinate position defined by outputs of a geomagnetic sensor from a first coordinate position of a center of a corresponding output circle. The system utilizes a preliminary coordinate position as a preliminarily corrected value of the first coordinate position, a first value indicative of accuracy of the preliminary coordinate position and a second value which is variable depending on a variation in a magnetization level on a vehicle body. The system derives a finally corrected value of the first coordinate position based on the preliminary coordinate position and a latest value of the finally corrected value which has been derived in a prior execution of the system, by changing a rate which determines a point of the current finally corrected value between the latest finally corrected value and the preliminary coordinate position.

  • Patent number: 5022232
Abstract: An automatic air conditioning system for automotive vehicles with a variable displacement compressor comprises a sensor for detecting an intake air temperature, defined by a temperature of air flowing through an evaporator, placed just behind the evaporator, an intake pressure sensor for detecting an intake manifold pressure, and a CPU for determining whether the cooling requirements of the evaporator are satisfied on the basis of the intake air temperature compared to a predetermined value. The CPU controls the compressor in such a manner that the discharge volume of refrigerant discharged from the compressor is decreased only when the cooling requirements are met. Thus, the automatic air conditioning system prevents uncomfortably warm conditioned air from being discharged through a vent door under acceleration conditions.

  • Patent number: 5023023
Abstract: An electric heater is silk screened on an interior surface of a cellulose diacetate visor by applying silk screening ink through a silk screen mask to a flat cellulose diacetate blank. The ink is then dried by being heated to between 120.degree. F.-150.degree. F. for about 20 seconds, preferably by air jet drying. The cellulose diacetate sheet is then formed into visor shape and cured by heating in an oven at about 325.degree. F. for about 20 minutes on a drape and/or vacuum form. The temperature of the visor during the drying, as well as bending and curing stages, is carefully controlled to assure proper application of the ink as well as the mechanical integrity and transparency of the visor.
