  • Patent number: 8219716
Abstract: An input and output (IO) scheduler dispatches a first IO request from a first IO queue during a first dispatch cycle and dispatches a second IO request from a second IO queue during a second dispatch cycle to one or more disks, where the first IO request is the last remaining IO request in the first queue and the second IO request is the first overall IO request in the second queue. The first and second IO requests are selected from multiple IO requests received from one or more clients for accessing the one or more disks. A seek time monitor measures disk seek time (IO queue switch time) incurred between the first IO request and the second IO request, and determines whether the first IO request and the second IO request belong to the same group. The disk seek time is attributed to a group associated with the first IO request and the second IO request, if the first IO request and the second IO request belong to the same group.

  • Patent number: 8219475
Abstract: An exchangeable security, tradable on a securities exchange is issued at a share price that is a discount from the share price of an underlying security or basket of underlying securities. At or prior to maturity of the exchangeable security, a holder of the exchangeable security may exchange a share of the exchangeable security for a share of the underlying security or basket of underlying securities. The exchangeable security may also include a linked payment that is redeemable for the full amount of the payment on maturity of the exchangeable security. Alternatively, the exchangeable security may be issued at the share price of the underlying security with the linked payment. The invention provides methods for issue, trade and redemption as well as systems for issue, trade and redemption of the security.

  • Patent number: 8217810
Abstract: Techniques for resource management of a PPM context model are described herein. According to one embodiment, in response to a sequence of symbols to be coded, contexts are allocated, each having multiple entries and each entry representing a symbol that the current context is able to encode, including a counter value representing a frequency of each entry being used. For each symbol coded by a context, a local counter value and a global counter value are maintained. The global counter value represents a total number of symbols that have been coded by the context model and the local counter value represents a number symbols that have been coded by the respective context. Thereafter, a resource management operation is performed for system resources associated with the plurality of contexts based on a global counter value and a local counter value associated with each of the plurality of contexts.

  • Patent number: 8207432
Abstract: An instrument comprising a neck-to-body junction including a solid upper body portion to which the instrument's neck and fingerboard are attached forming a neck member. The neck member is then engaged with a hollow cavity representative of the lower body an acoustic or semi-acoustic stringed instruments. The upper body portion of the neck member extends into the hollow cavity of the lower body to create a uniform body structure. A carve-out feature is then formed in close proximity to the base of the neck and extends into the underside of the upper body portion. The carve-out comprises a smooth and continuous surface that enables a player's hand to comfortably access higher positions on the instrument's neck when the instrument is played in the normal playing position.

  • Patent number: 8209564
Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for systems and methods for initiating software repairs in conjunction with software package updates. A physical or virtual client machine can host a set of installed software packages, including operating system, application, and/or other software. A package manager tracks the set of installed packages and updates available for the installed set. A notification tool, in conjunction with the package manager, can monitor the user's selection of package update options, and compare those updates to a diagnostic database, current state of the client machine, or other resources. Based on those determinations, the notification tool can generate one or more potential software repair actions to correct or avoid potential conflicts, faults, or other conditions that may arise due to, or may surround, the prospective package update.

  • Patent number: 8200711
Abstract: A project directory structure of an application or service is mapped to a package directory structure. A package is built for the application or service by copying files from the project directory structure to the package directory structure in accordance with the mapping. An event trigger is detected, wherein the event trigger is one of a new file, a modified file, or a deleted file in the project directory structure. An updated package is built for the application or service by performing an appropriate one of copying the new file to the package directory structure, replacing an existing file in the package directory structure with the modified file, or deleting a file in the package directory structure that corresponds to the deleted file in the project directory structure.
