Abstract: The improved adhesion is provided by incorporating into an adhesive and/or sealant plastic material an effective amount of cyclodextrin or a complex of cyclodextrin and blowing agent. Where the complex of cyclodextrin and blowing agent is employed, an expandable mixture is formed.

Abstract: A sorbent pad for protection against environmental damage by drums of hazardous waste is disclosed. The sorbent pad comprises sorbent fibers and, on the bottom, a barrier layer. The drum rests on the sorbent pad and any spills or condensation are sorbed by the sorbent pad. The barrier layer prevents any sorbed material from leaching through to the pallet, floor, etc. on which the drum rests.

Abstract: A concrete structure having at least one concrete insert element is disclosed. The insert element has a surface with a layer of aluminum or aluminum alloy and, upon setting of the concrete, the layer of aluminum or aluminum alloy reacts at least partially with the free lime and oxygen in the concrete to form calcium aluminate, thus providing a particularly intimate and firm bond between the insert element and the concrete.

Abstract: A white waxy corn starch dextrin produces a paste of excellent color and clarity when compared to waxy corn starch dextrins without the need for bleaching.

Upon control signals from a controller in the "in use" mode, the fan is started and shutters provided at an inlet and outlet are opened, while in the "not in use" mode, the fan is stopped and the shutters are closed. When one of the individual timers is selected, the controller issues control signals at times specified by the individual timers within a time period previously specified by the main timer. When the dispenser is in the "not in use" mode, the shutter isolates the cavity from the outside.

Abstract: A process for producing alpha-cyclodextrin using cyclomaltoextrin glucanotransferase is disclosed. The enzyme is obtained from Bacillus macerans. Starch hydrolysate is treated with the enzyme at a temperature of between about 15.degree. C. and about 40.degree. C. wherein the conversion is performed in the presence of cyclohexane and substantially no gamma-cyclodextrin is produced. The resulting alpha-cyclodextrin is then recovered.

Abstract: A system for the simultaneous coding of a number of television signals and for decoding thereof in radiofrequency.The radiofrequency TV signal or signals to be distributed undergo remodulation on at least one channel by a signal which does not alter the synchronism pedestal and which varies in accordance with an established sequence resident in the memory of the coder, offering differentiated application to each individual channel or to the whole range thereof. A data channel is also installed to include a channel identification code, an algorithmic code and a synchronisation code, these being the determinants for interpretation of the codes by a decoder at the subscriber's terminal and for application of a process of remodulation which is identical, synchronous and inverse in form to that of the coder in order to restore the original signal.It is of application in the protection of subscriber TV channels.

The tubes are individually removable for replacement. The mattress construction is especially desirable because it is articulatable along its length.

Abstract: A method for making a reinforced fibrous mat having a net layer between two fibrous layers and the reinforced fibrous mat made therefrom is disclosed. The net layer improves handleability of the fibrous mat. The fibrous mat may be used as is or it may be molded to form a molded product. A thermoplastic binder such as latex or starch is used in forming the fibrous layers. A thermoset binding agent such as a phenolic resin is added to the fibers if the reinforced fibrous mat is molded.

Abstract: The use of a starch obtained from a plant source that is homozygous in a white recessive gene, such as white common corn starch, has superior compression and ejection forces compared to commercial disintegrantants/binders. The starch derived from common corn containing the homozygous white recessive gene was also found to have comparable whiteness to commercial bleached corn starches used in tableting.

Abstract: This is a method for treatment of spent potlining from aluminium reduction cells including the refractory material in order to transfer the spent potlining to a form in which it can be used as a filler or as a raw material. The spent potlining is crushed and supplied to a closed electrothermic smelting furnace optionally together with a SiO.sub.2 source, wherein the spent potlining is melted at a temperature between 1300.degree. and 1750.degree. C. An oxidation agent is supplied to the furnace in order to oxidize carbon and other oxidizable components contained in the spent potlining such as metals, carbides and nitrides. Further, a source of calcium oxide is supplied to the smelting furnace in an amount necessary to react with all fluoride present to form CaF.sub.2 and to form a calcium aluminate or calcium aluminate silicate slag containing CaF.sub.

Abstract: A bookmark is disclosed which automatically holds a reader's place in a book. The bookmark has a clip which attaches to the book, a marker extending from the outside of the book inward towards the spine, and a side-piece connecting the clip and the marker. The bookmark may be made from plastic or metal. An alternative embodiment wherein the clip is a flexible wire or spring-loaded clamp is also disclosed.
