Abstract: By administration of sulfated cyclodextrin on a pregnant mother, the effect of a teratogen on a developing fetus is blocked. Blocking the effect of the teratogen reduces congenital defects in a developing fetus. The sulfated cyclodextrin has also been found to reduce the effect of the teratogen on a host. The sulfated cyclodextrin is administered either before or after onset of organogenesis and either before or after exposure to the teratogen. Teratogens include radiation, temperature extremes, chemicals, drugs, bacteria, viruses, hormones, stress, injury, pregnancy, and fatigue.

Abstract: The apparatus and method for flushing and draining the radiator and cooling system of a vehicle employs a drain pipe which allows for draining of the radiator and flushing of the cooling system. A drain pipe which connects to the bottom of the radiator has a bend of 180.degree. near the top of the radiator but below the fluid level of the radiator. The outlet of the drain pipe is below the inlet for the drain pipe.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a silicon powder, which is characterized in that it is produced by gas atomizing of molten silicon and having a particle size between 0,1 and 1000 .mu.m, a specific surface area between 0.001 and 1 m.sup.2 /g, and the following chemical composition in percent by weight:0.1-1% iron, 0.01-1% aluminium, 0-8% copper, 0-1% calcium, 0-1% zinc, 0-1% tin, 0-5% boron, 0-0.5% phosphorus, 0-0.5% sodium, 0-0.5% lithium, 0-0.5% potassium, 0-0.5% magnesium, 0-0.5% strontium, 0-0.5% barium, 0-0.5% beryllium, the rest being silicon and less than 0.3% impurities such as Ti, V, Cr, Mo, W and Zr.

Abstract: The method for making a reduced fat foodstuff entails replacing at least a portion of the fat and/or oil in the foodstuff with a high amylose starch hydrolysate having an apparent amylose content above about 40% and a DE greater than 5 and less than 15.0. A high amylose corn starch is the preferred starch base.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for production of metals and/or ferro alloys by prereduction of particulate metal oxide co-current with a reducing gas. Reducing gas having a temperature between 650.degree. and 1100.degree. C. and metal oxide particles are supplied at the lower end of a substantially vertical prereduction column which comprises at least two chambers having a substantially circular cross-section, said chambers in their upper and lower ends having a decreasing cross-section and where a ringshaped member for decreasing the cross-section is arranged in the intermediate zone between the chambers. The mixture of reducing gas and prereduced metal oxide particles is collected at the top of the prereduction column, whereafter the prereduced metal oxide particles are transported to a smelting furnace for smelting and final reduction to metallix state by addition of a reduction material.The present invention also relates to a column for treatment of particulate solid materials with a gas.

Abstract: A multilayered substrate for printed circuit boards of electrical circuits, said substrate consisting of copper and ceramic layers which are joined together by the DBC method into said multilayered substrate, with each copper layer being formed by a copper sheet and each ceramic layer being formed by a ceramic plate, at least two of said layers forming a layer sequence having a hollow section or core, said at least two layers being arranged essentially parallel to each other, said at least two layers being spaced apart from one another by an intermediate spacing layer.

Abstract: Video system for detection of colored areas on black/white patterned background which comprises a video camera for formation of a set of primary color signals R, G, B and a signal processing unit, which provides information about the recorded area based on a processing of one or more of the signal difference (R-Y), (B-Y), (G-Y) between the primary color signals R, G, B and luminance signal Y. The system can particularly be used for digitalizing of interpreted seismic sections.

Abstract: Thisinvention relates to a process for the preparation of tablets readily soluble and/or splitable in water comprising introducing, into the preparation ready to be pressed, a sufficient amount of a liquid agent having a boiling point between 35.degree. C. and +50.degree. C. selected from within the halogenated hydrocarbons or mixtures thereof, proceeding with the comprising step and, finally, eliminating the volatile liquid which leads to a porous structure.

Abstract: The desulfurization agent for molten iron is made up of 70 to 95% commercial calcium carbide, 5 to 25% silicon dioxide, 0 to 10% of a metal oxide; and 0 to 5% calcium fluoride. The metal oxides are iron oxides and manganese oxides. The desulfurizing agent has been found to reduce the amount of calcium carbide in the resulting slag.

Abstract: The process entails forming a droplet of water, cyclodextrin and base in a non-polar solvent such as methylisobutylketone using polyvinyl butyral as an emulsifier. A cross-linking agent such as epichlorohydrin is reacted with the cyclodextrin and emulsifying agent to form the spherical polymer bead.

Abstract: A toaster is provided with independent electric feeding for the classical two resistances which take part therein, so that the toasting effect may be supplied to only one of the two surfaces of the slice of bread, or to the two sides as is conventional.For this purpose, either two independent contactors are used, corresponding to the two resistances, which can act independently with the assistance of a movable wedge or be obliged to act simultaneously, in which case the resistances are fed through a diode, or else the said resistances are fed through two commutation transistors and from an electronic control and adjusting circuit provided with a temporizer and which is assisted by two push-buttons, one for selecting the resistances and the other for stop/release.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detecting flaws and surface defects in metallic workpieces, particularly in non-magnetic steel workpieces. The surface of the workpiece is heated by passing the workpiece in its longitudinal direction through an induction coil, scanning the surface of the workpiece with an infrared camera transversely across the surface of the moving workpiece immediately after induction heating and recording a streaked pattern temperature profile in which the streaked pattern repeats itself where there are flaws in the surface. It is used an induction coil with a current frequency which gives a penetration depth of the induced current in the workpiece which is greater than the depth of the flaws which are to be detected. The flaws and surface defects are detected by recording a lower surface temperature than the rest of the surface of the workpiece by scanning the temperature profile immediately after induction heating.

Abstract: Dibasic aluminium salts of acylated amino acids having the formula ##STR1## (R.dbd.C.sub.5 --C.sub.10 hydrocarbon, R' is the main chain of the illustrated .alpha.-amino-acid) have antisudoral properties. R' may be such that the .alpha.-aminoacid is singular, e.g. lysine, glycine or aspartic acid, or a mixture, e.g. a hydrolysate of a protein such as collagen, keratin or casein. R may be saturated, e.g. pentyl, heptyl or nonyl, or unsaturated, e.g. dec-9-enyl. Antisudoral compositions containing these salts are described.

Abstract: The media is an ether derivative of cyclodextrin such as a permethylated hydroxy ether of cyclodextrin or a dialkyl trifluoroacetyl ether derivative of cyclodextrin and is used in capillary gas chromatographic columns. Particular benefit is obtained using the ether derivative of cyclodextrin in a fused silica capillary.

Abstract: The blowing agent is a complex of cyclodextrin and guest blowing agent. Suitable guest blowing agents include water, propylene glycol and cyclohexylalamine. The blowing agent is used in structural foam and adhesives.
