  • Patent number: 6425308
Abstract: A toolholder apparatus is provided for holding a cutting tool adjacent a rotating workpiece. The apparatus includes a mounting block base and a mounting block body slidably supported on the base. A first adjustable connector connects the body to the base so that apposition of the body on the base can be adjusted in a first direction toward the workpiece. A center adjustment block slidably engages the body. A second adjustable connector connects the center adjustment block and the body so that a position of the center adjustment block on the body can be adjusted in a second direction transverse to the first direction and transverse to the rotational axis of the workpiece. A head is detachably mounted on the center. adjustment block. The head is removable from the center adjustment block by. sliding movement in a third direction transverse to both of the first and second directions.

  • Patent number: 6412588
Abstract: A CNG fuel supply system is provided for mounting a plurality of Type 4 tanks on the roof of a bus. A manifold line extends to the roof of the bus and is anchored against movement relative to the length of the bus. A shutoff valve is associated with each tank, the shutoff valve being mounted on an end of its respective tank adjacent the manifold line. The shutoff valve has two ports which communicate with the tank when the shutoff valve is open. An inlet tubing piece connects the manifold line to one of the two ports of each tank and an outlet tubing piece connects the manifold line to the other port of each tank. The tubing pieces are manufactured to be substantially identical to other tubing pieces of the tank system for a given bus, and to other tubing pieces for other buses in the fleet, thus reducing the number of different tubing pieces utilized for construction and maintenance of the fleet.

  • Patent number: 6392137
Abstract: A transducer for detecting vibrations in an object. Multiple pickup coils are utilized which are sensitive to both the vibrations in the string plane and the vibrations perpendicular to the string plane. This system subtracts the signals from the first and second pickups to create a signal representing the vibrations in the string plane and combines the signals from the first pickup and the second pickup for determining the string vibrations perpendicular to the string plane. In one embodiment of the invention, the transducer uses one pole of the pickup as a bridge saddle for supporting the guitar string. The saddle pole of the pickup is constructed from a magnetically permeable material. The saddle pole causes the lines of magnetic flux to be carried in large part by the guitar string and allows for a reduction in the total magnetic energy requirement for the pickup's permanent magnet to reduce the cross talk between adjacent string sensors within a polyphonic pickup.

  • Patent number: 6383100
Abstract: A bat having a non-uniform circumferential wall thickness. The bat comprises a tubular body having a handle portion, a tapered mid-section and a barrel or impact portion. In one embodiment, the outer diameter of the bat is constant, while the inner diameter varies between a maximum diameter and a minimum diameter to create alternating points of maximum wall thickness and minimum wall thickness. In an alternate embodiment, the inner diameter of the bat remains constant, while the outer diameter varies to create alternating points of maximum and minimum wall thickness. The distance between points of maximum and minimum wall thickness is such that there are at least two points of maximum wall thickness under the area of the bat that is contacted by a ball upon impact.

  • Patent number: 6374998
Abstract: A paper handling system includes an acceleration conveyor having an acceleration belt operating at an acceleration speed. The system includes a pinning structure operably positioned to pin paper to the acceleration belt. The pinning structure is a rotary feeder which includes a plurality of flexible bristles extending radially from a roller into engagement with the acceleration belt. The speed of the acceleration belt is sufficiently high to create a suction phenomena such that when paper is pinned to the acceleration belt with the rotary feeder, the paper will be accelerated to a paper speed substantially equal to the acceleration speed. The system also includes a blower system operative to facilitate carrying the paper off of the acceleration belt across a transition gap between the acceleration belt and a product belt.

  • Patent number: 6373953
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the real-time creation of an output audio signal from an input signal with an unwanted or noise portion. The system detects the unwanted portion of the input signal by utilizing an adaptive detection filter and reduces the unwanted portion of the input signal. The reduction of the unwanted portion is performed by compression of the unwanted signal, subtraction of the unwanted portion of the signal, or eliminating the output signal until the unwanted portion is no longer detected. The system is specifically designed to find a high frequency and high amplitude sound such as a sibilant.

  • Patent number: 6367573
Abstract: A CNG fuel tank system is provided for mounting on the roof of a bus. The system includes a support frame mounted on the roof of the bus. The support frame includes at least one longitudinal frame wall extending generally parallel to the length of the bus. Each tank cylinder has associated therewith first and second saddles which are attached to one side of one of the frame walls. Each saddle has a base oriented vertically and engaging in the first frame wall. Each saddle includes an arcuate recess spacing sideways from this frame wall. Each tank cylinder is received in the arcuate recesses of the saddles associated therewith. Each saddle has associated therewith first and second strap assemblies which extend around the tank cylinder to secure the tank cylinder to the saddles and thus to the support frame. Preferably, a set of four parallel tanks are mounted in the fashion described on two parallel longitudinal frame walls. There is one tank hung in a cantilever mode off either side of each frame wall.

  • Patent number: 6369882
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for sensing the presence of bright white paper on a conveyor of a paper sorting system. The conveyor is constantly illuminated with ultraviolet light. When bright white paper is present in the inspection zone of the conveyor, it will re-radiate fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light. Periodically, the inspection zone of the conveyor is illuminated with a second light source in the visible light spectrum. Light is collected from the inspection zone of the conveyor, including reflected light from the secondary source and including emitted fluorescent light energy as a result of the ultraviolet light falling on bright white paper. Periodically a microprocessor associated with the sensor senses reflected light from the second source to determine whether any object if present on the conveyor. The microprocessor then senses the level of fluorescent light energy being emitted from any object on the conveyor.
