Abstract: A description is given of compounds of the formula wherein R and R' independently are H, methyl or ethyl.The novel compounds are effective as stabilizers for organic material against the damaging effect of light, oxygen and heat; they are also suitable for use in skin or hair protection preparations.

Abstract: An apparatus for the treatment of flat-form material, especially of coated printed circuit boards, wherein the printed circuit boards are subjected to various treatment processes in succession, such as airflow treatment, drying, and cooling, while they are being transported through a housing in which treatment processes are carried out, there are provided in the housing, for the purpose controlling of the process and increasing the adaptability of the treatment installation, individual treatment zones separate from one another, and the printed circuit boards are conveyed into the individual treatment zones in groups, a separate treatment process being carried out in each treatment zone.

Abstract: A method for improving the chargeability of a powder coating composition containing an organic film-forming binder, which method comprises incorporating into the powder coating composition at least two different compounds containing a residue of the formula (A) ##STR1## as electron donors.

Abstract: 4-(Substituted phenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-naphthalen-1-ones, which are useful as intermediates in the preparation of antidepressant agents, are conveniently prepared by reacting 1-substituted naphthalenes and an aromatic moiety in the presence of an acid catalyst. 4-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-naphthalen-1-one, which is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of the antidepressant sertraline, is conveniently prepared by reacting 1-naphthyl acetate and o-dichlorobenzene in the presence of an acid catalyst.

Abstract: Compositions comprising at least one nonvolatile acetylene alone or together with a strained cycloolefin and catalytic amounts of a catalyst for metathesis polymerization, which comprise at least one one-component catalyst from the group molybdenum compounds, tungsten compounds, niobium compounds and tantalum compounds which comprise (a) either at least two methyl groups or two monosubstituted methyl groups without .alpha. hydrogen atoms in the substituent or (b) at least one halogen and only one silylmethyl group attached to the metal. The storage-stable compositions can be polymerized by the action of actinic radiation or by short-term irradiation and subsequent thermal curing. The polymers can be used to prepare shaped articles, films, coatings and relief images.

Abstract: The invention relates to organic compounds having a molecular weight of less than 1000 comprising at least one structural unit of the formula (I) ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is an aromatic or heteroaromatic radical which is capable of absorbing light in the wavelength range from 200 to 650 nm and in doing so brings about cleavage of the adjacent carbon-nitrogen bond.The compounds represent photoinitiators for base-catalyzable reactions. Other subjects of the invention are base-polymerizable or crosslinkable compositions comprising compounds having a structural unit of the formula I, a method of implementing photochemically induced, base-catalyzed reactions, and the use of the compounds as photoinitiators for base-catalyzed reactions.

Abstract: Selected derivatives of 1-oxyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-hydroxypiperidine are surprisingly effective as inhibitors to prevent the premature polymerization of acrylic and methacrylic acids, their esters, their amides, vinyl acetate and acrylonitrile in the presence of water. Some of these derivatives are new compounds.

Abstract: Damaged thermoplastics can be outstandingly stabilized by the use of a mixture comprising a) 0.05 to 20% by weight, based on the plastic to be stabilized, of at least one polyfunctional epoxide, b) 0.01 to 2% by weight, based on the plastic to be stabilized, of at least one sterically hindered phenol.

This compound is the required intermediate to prepare sertraline, (1S-cis)-4-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-N-methyl-1-naphthylamin e. Sertraline has selective serotonin uptake inhibitor activity making it a valuable antidepressant pharmaceutical product.
