  • Patent number: 4585398
Abstract: A combination fluid tank, air/fluid cooler, and mounting system for the prime mover and pump of a hydraulic power unit comprises a tank having a pair of spaced parallel laterally aligned prime mover and pump mounting plates on opposite walls thereof with a torsion tube connecting the mounting plates. A fan induces a flow of air internally of the torque tube providing for cooling of fluid in the tank. Efficient cooling in combination with a deaerating compartment within the tank minimizes the size of the tank.

  • Patent number: 4579514
Abstract: An apparatus and method for loading a front loading molding press in which a loading board is pivoted at one edge on a horizontal pivot shaft which extends into a lower corner of the press opening adjacent one side of the mold in the press. Loading of the press is performed by loading the board with a predetermined array of articles to be molded while the board is in an upwardly pivoted oblique preloading position to one side of the press opening; thereafter pivoting the loaded board downwardly to a loading position directly in front of the press; thereafter sliding the board on the pivot shaft into the press opening to an unloading position directly overlying the mold; and thereafter discharging the articles downwardly onto the mold.

  • Patent number: 4575019
Abstract: A guard for a steel strip recoiler precludes a "pinch point" between the revolving coil of steel and the advancing strip. A lower shroud prevents access to the periphery of the drum and an upper skid plate precludes access to the underside of the advancing strip. The drum shroud and skid plate are angularly related so as to converge to define a narrow slit which accepts cardboard filler strips but which precludes an operator's hand from passage therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4574609
Abstract: A nut forming apparatus in which a pair of identical die assemblies are housed in a pair of diametrically opposed boxes in a rotary block and rearward movement of the die assembly relative to the rotary block at a first die station is precluded but rearward movement of that die assembly is allowed as it is moved to a second die station by rotary movement of the rotary block. A fixed back pierce pin, associated with each die assembly, is thus inoperative in response to a front forming blow struck by a punch positioned at the first die station but operates to back pierce the nut blank upon rearward movement of the die assembly in response to a front forming blow struck by a punch positioned at the second die station. A pair of cammingly interfaced cylindrical members associated with each die undergo relative rotation as the die assembly is moved by rotation of the rotary block between the first and second die stations to respectively preclude and allow rearward movement at that die assembly.

  • Patent number: 4573876
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a turbine rotor and method of manufacture thereof. A plurality of blades having dovetails at the radially inner ends thereof are arranged in a circumferentially spaced circular array. A metallic hub is cast about the dovetails of said blades which are metallurgically bonded by the operation. Alternatively, the blades may be joined to the hub thereafter by an electron beam weld that extends axially to the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4564095
Abstract: This clutch device is designed to be friction-less, and it employs hydraulic fluid for the engaging action upon a drive flange, without the use of friction linings. Primarily, it consists of an internal housing, return spring, piston and pushrod, which are moved by a cam rotated by the power source to cause a pumping action in the housing. Check valves are also included in the stationary housing, and apply and release control valves of the stationary housing open and close the fluid passages, for the clutch engaged, or released clutch condition.

  • Patent number: 4554723
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring workpieces to successive work devices. The apparatus comprises concentric turntables mounted for rotation about a common central axis. A series of work devices are mounted on the inner turntable and a series of workpiece holder devices are mounted on the outer turntable. The turntables are rotated in the same direction and in synchronism while the various work devices respectively perform work operations on the various workpieces held in the various workpiece holder devices, whereafter the inner turntable is accelerated and the outer turntable is decelerated until the various workpieces reach a position midway between successive work devices, whereafter the inner turntable is decelerated and the outer turntable is accelerated until the workpieces arrive at positions of alignment with the next successive work devices.
