Abstract: A system for weighing and placing stacked foliage in inventory and for, thereafter, precisely determining and feeding a metered or controlled amount of foliage material from inventory on a stack-by-stack basis. A foliage stacking machine is used to stack, weigh and place the foliage in cumulative inventory. A stack feeder is used from time to time to feed to livestock predetermined and metered amounts of foliage from successive stacks taken from inventory, while continuously monitoring the cumulative amount of foliage in inventory. Electronic strain gauges are disposed upon the frame of both the stacking machine and the stack feeder which strain gauges are calibrated to provide a total stack weight readout (at any time before, during or after each feeding operation). A calculator for determining the amount of feed to be discharged on each occasion is provided.

  • Patent number: 4193400
Abstract: An intravenous needle assembly and an associated manufacturing method, wherein the needle assembly comprises a hypodermic needle attached to a hub at its trailing end, a transparent blood detection chamber integral with the hub, a catheter disposed around the needle and the needle hub and a plug closing the blood detection chamber, the plug having air breathing means so that upon venipuncture blood from a vein may flow through the needle into the blood detection chamber without substantial air resistance to such flow to visually confirm the accuracy of the introduction of the needle into a vein. The plug is centrally hollow and has an axially directed leading breather projection connected to an annular shoulder or flange. The breather projection comprises a symmetrical hollow truncated conical extension with a hollow interior and walls having a plurality of narrow slits permitting ready passage of air under pressure of the heart while substantially preventing the passage of blood through the slits.

  • Patent number: 4190259
Abstract: A two element, high and low pressure seal assembly to be used in a hydraulic or pneumatic sealing environment between two relatively movable machine parts, the seal assembly comprising an anti-extrusion spring element illustrated as generally rectangular in cross-section but including a projecting annular tongue and made of a relatively soft elastomeric material, the projecting tongue of said spring element contiguously engaging the entire surface of the base with the annular tongue being contained within an annular slot of a U-shaped elastomeric annular sealing member whereby the two member assembly functions jointly, and accommodates easy installation. The mating interface between the parts assure reliable unitary response but simultaneously provides a flex site at said interface which yieldingly resists imposed forces without fluid leakage. The U-shaped sealing element comprises a central body from which two anti-extrusion legs radially extend.

  • Patent number: 4188859
Abstract: A fluid driven mechanism in the form of a fluid motor or fluid pump which is transmissionless, wherein speed and power are selectively varied by the operator through corresponding adjustment in the orientation of angularly disposed power transmitting structure. A large capacity unrestricted rotating fluid distributor vortically and cyclically directs ingress fluid successively to a series of pistons which is power-related to the power transmitting structure. The fluid distributor is uniquely caused to float during its rotation by oppositely imposed fluid under pressure within aligned eccentric chambers, each chamber being formed partly in the rotating distributor and partly in adjacent stationary structure.

  • Patent number: 4178900
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine comprising a generally cylindrical stator member having two pairs of sockets located in the interior peripheral wall thereof, and a rotor member mounted to rotate within the stator member. Two pairs of opposing wedges are pivotally mounted at their vertices on the interior peripheral wall of the stator member to pivot in and out of respective ones of the sockets as the rotor member is caused to rotate within the stator member. The rotor member has an outermost periphery which, in cooperation with the peripheral wall of the stator member and the two pairs of pivotal wedges, define at selected paint in time and for brief a combustion cavity and a compression cavity therebetween. The instantaneous combustion cavity and compression cavity are disposed on opposite sides of the stator member adjacent the peripheral wall thereof.

  • Patent number: 4164294
Abstract: A method of placing bulk potatoes in a storage facility, the method comprising a powered potato conveyor external to the storage facility upon which a stream of potatoes is deposited. Thereafter the stream of potatoes is deposited upon at least one potato conveyor belt located in the upper portion of the storage facility and extending the full axial length thereof. Potatoes are shaken by vibration of the external conveyor to remove dirt and other tare, and a picking station is provided exterior to the facility wherein remaining foreign objects are removed manually prior to storage, tare conveyor belts being provided to collect and displace the dirt and foreign objects to tare trucks for disposal. Inside the storage enclosure, the potatoes are moved gently from one or more main storage conveyors by a rotating brush onto one or more cross conveyor belts selectively settable at any point along the entire length of the main storage conveyor, and are evenly distributed across the enlarging potato pile below.
