  • Patent number: 5457628
Abstract: A method of interpretation of electrical dispersion data relating to porous media such as soil, the media having a solid phase and a fluid phase, includes the steps of electromagnetically taking, as a function of megahertz frequency, a plurality of bulk material measurements of the parameters of conductivity and dielectric constant. The method further includes the step of inputting said conductivity and dielectric data into dispersion functions having, as their solvable variables, parameters including at least solid phase conductivity and dielectric constant, fluid phase conductivity and dielectric constant, and solid-fluid phase interface conductivity and dielectric constant. Information may also be obtained with respect to the parameters of particle shape, particle size, particle orientation, porosity, water content, and non-water content.

  • Patent number: 5452977
Abstract: A fastening system includes a fastener having a threaded shank and a head, the head having upper and lower surfaces and depending integrally from the lower surface of the head, the lower surface including a channel concentric relative to the shank. The shank of the fastener includes its first channel extending along a length and a second channel also extending along a length of the shank. Within the first shank channel is provided a bonding base material, and within the second shank channel is provided a bonding activator material. Rotation of the fastener within a medium to be fastened will cause an extrusion of the bonding base and activator materials into the annular channel in which a curing reaction therebetween will occur, effectively bonding the lower surface of the fastener head to an exterior surface of the medium to be fastened.

  • Patent number: 5447434
Abstract: A micromechanical seal between a first body and a second body, which is axially threadably securable to the first body, is formed by the combination of a first annular concave radial surface upon the first body, the first surface defining a radius of curvature in the range of about two to about eight ten-thousandths of an inch, a second annular concave radial surface upon the second body, the second surface fully complemental in inner and outer radial dimensions to the first surface, the second surface defining a radius of curvature in the range of about two to about eight ten-thousandths of an inch. Upon tightening of the respective axially threadedable surfaces of the first and second bodies, a micromechanical seal in a region of compression, formed by the opposing concave surfaces, is created.

  • Patent number: 5443508
Abstract: An implantable multiple-agent biologic delivery system includes a pod proportioned for subcutaneous implantation beneath the dermis of the skin, the pod including a porous surface and having at least one internal chamber which is in fluid communication with the porous surface. The system includes a dome proportioned for selectable detachable securement to the chamber of the pod. The dome includes interior chambers, each in fluid communication with the interior of the pod. Bio-acting agents, such as hormones, enzymes, biologic response modifiers, free radical scavengers, and other genetically altered cell cultures may be provided, within the chambers of the dome, prior to implantation. Such agents within the dome will, through the use of time release micropumps, enter the interior chambers of the pod for transmission, through the porous surfaces into a growth factor stimulated capillary matrix and then to the bloodstream of the user.

  • Patent number: 5421831
Abstract: A facial implant for augmentation of the sub-malar region of the face includes a three dimensional body formed of a flexible tissue-compatible material having a convex front surface and a concave rear surface, such surfaces being substantially symmetrical about a plane of symmetry existing about midway between proximal and distal tips of the body, at which tips the convex and concave surfaces intersect. The body is also characterized by a thin proximal head portion consisting of upper and lower protrusions existing proximally with reducing thickness, a wider central portion, and a tail portion extending distally with reducing height and thickness to the distal tip of the body of the implant.

  • Patent number: 5415545
Abstract: A dental implant system includes an implant having its external geometry proportioned for securement within a human mandible. A junction between the implant and a complemental abutment of a dental prosthesis includes a journal that is defined by two bearing surfaces respectively preceding and following a threaded part of the junction. A longitudinal internal bore of the implant begins at a proximal open end of the implant and extends to a closed distal end, the bore includes the threaded part of the junction and is of substantially uniform diameter and pitch. A distal end of the bore defines one of the bearing surfaces and a proximal end of said bore defines the other bearing surface. The abutment of the dental prosthesis includes a male element which is complemental in all respects to the threaded portion of the bore and the bearing surfaces internal to the bore of the implant.

  • Patent number: 5411356
Abstract: A self-locking strut-nut system for securement within a longitudinal constructional rectangular channel includes an element for selectable lockable engagement with the rectangular channel, such element defining a medial plane of the nut system. Such system also includes an element for threadably receipt of a complementally threaded rod, such receipt element having an axis transverse to such medial plane, the receipt element extending in length of the strut-nut system along such axis which exhibits upper and lower ends. The system also includes a rigid planar washer having an aperture. The system additionally includes an element for selectable engagement within the rigid washer, such engagement element extending integrally downwardly from a lowermost plane of the system, co-parallel to the medial plane of the system and transverse to the axis of the receipt element. Accordingly, the washer is secured transversely to the axis of the receipt element and against the lowermost plane of the system.

  • Patent number: 5404968
Abstract: An automotive screw lift system includes a front below ground level cavity having a first depth below a surface level. A track element is secured across a mouth of the front cavity proximally to the front surface level. A trolley is provided which is proportioned for slidable longitudinal movement within the track of the front cavity. Further provided is a rear below ground level cavity having a depth greater than the first depth of the front cavity, the rear cavity disposed along a given longitudinal axis relative to the front cavity. Yet further provided is a cavity enclosure secured upon a top opening of the rear cavity, the enclosure positioned beneath the surface level. Within the front and rear below ground cavities are provided front and rear screw lift assemblies each having a length less than the first depth of the first cavity, each of the lift assemblies having upper ends having flanges selectably interfaceable with either of the trolley or the rear enclosure.
