Abstract: Disclosed is an insertion and ejection printed circuit board edge connector assembly. A circuit board fits into a slot in an elongated housing, and at each end of the housing there is an ejectment mechanism having an upper engagement arm and a lateral engagement arm which is pivotally connected to the housing at a point between the engagement and ejectment arm. The engagement arm is fixed to one end of the circuit board by a flexible latch which may be disengaged to allow the ejectment arm to pivot upwardly to eject the circuit board.
Abstract: An insert for a modular jack assembly insert comprising an insulative member having top and bottom walls; a front end and a rear recess; a first wire extending from adjacent the bottom wall of the insulative member across the rear recess to the top wall and then through the front end of the insulative member; and a second wire extending from adjacent the bottom wall of the insulative member across the rear recess in non-contacting, overlapping relation with the first wire.
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly comprising a socket, a plug and a medial wire termination device which includes an insulative housing with a socket receiving recess at one end and a plug engaging projection at the other end. Between the socket and the plug there are transversely spaced, generally parallel metallic contacts. On each of these metallic contacts there are a pair of wire receiving terminals each of which terminals is adjacent to a wire receiving aperture in the housing.
Abstract: Disclosed is a connector comprising a front retaining member with a pin receiving passageway, a plurality of conductive pins extending through the passageway, a rear retaining means with a plurality a pin receiving means and a printed wiring board with capacitors and central apertures and being interposed between the front and rear retaining members so as to receive the pins in said apertures.
Abstract: Disclosed is a header which may be used on a disc drive base or on another such plate between a higher pressure space and a lower pressure space and which will effectively prevent or retard pressure loss from the higher pressure space. A molded plastic wafer member is positioned in an aperture in the plate. A fiberglass reinforced polymer board member is superimposed over the wafer. There are axially aligned transverse apertures in the board member and the wafer member and conductive pins pass through these aligned apertures. Adjacent the apertures in the board member are metallized surfaces and the pins are soldered to board member at this point to effect the pressurized seal.

Abstract: A cover (36) for use in transporting headers by vacuum suction comprising a dielectric housing (12), terminals (14) mounted on the housing and pins arranged in an array (18) comprising a plurality of rows (20 and 22), said cover comprising an upper section (38) including a smooth top surface (40), a plurality of generally parallel longitudinal ridges (42, 44 and 46) extending downwardly from the top section and a groove (54 and 56) interposed between adjacent ridges and said ridges and grooves being positioned so that one of said rows of pins is engageable in each of said grooves and a transverse member (62 and 64) extends across at least a part of at least one of the grooves. A method of using the cover is also disclosed.
Abstract: Disclosed is a modular jack having a first plurality of wires which extend in a common vertical plane from the bottom wall of the housing across the opened end and to the top wall and then extend horizontally forward and then angularly downwardly and rearwardly back toward the rear opened end. A second plurality of wires extends first in a common vertical plane from the bottom wall across only a part of the rear opened end and then extends obliquely, horizontally and upwardly toward the front opened end. A method of use is also disclosed.
Abstract: Disclosed is a connector from a memory card in which the eject plate bears on the link arm at a first contact position during insertion. During ejectment a separate contact position is engaged. The distance between the first contact position used during insertion and the pivot point of the link arm is greater than the distance between the second contact position and the pivot point of the link arm by a factor of between 3:1 to 6:1. A significant mechanical advantage is therefore realized so that the card may be inserted with little resistance force while ample ejecting force is available.

Abstract: Disclosed is a printed wiring board and memory card assembly comprising a pair of opposed cover plates, a printed wiring board interposed between the opposed cover plates, an electrical battery positioned adjacent the printed wiring board and between the opposed covers, a positive terminal connecting the printed wiring board with the battery and a negative terminal connecting the printed wiring board with the battery and both of the cover plates. A method of grounding the printed wiring board by this assembly is also disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention provides a pin grid array (PGA) socket for electrically connecting pins of an integrated circuit to a circuit substrate. The PGA socket according to the invention included a cover having insertion holes arranged in rows and columns for receiving the pins of the integrated circuit and a base for supporting a plurality of deflectable contacts. The cover provides a buttress extending from each insertion hole. The contacts are preferably freely supported in the base and spaced on either about 0.5 inch centers or on about 0.1 inch centers. The centerlines of the insertion holes are correspondingly spaced approximately 0.5 inches or approximately 0.1 inches. The cover preferably provides a camming means. The cover can be slidably attached to the base to permit the cover to cam over the surface of the base.
Abstract: An electrical terminal carrying substrate or wafer is maintained in a channel of a die-cast metal frame of an electrical receptacle by peens that create radiused retaining lips. The slip-fit wafer is thus held into place within the channel at one end of the receptacle housing by a plurality of lips that extend over flange portions integral with the wafer. The flange rests on ledges integral with the frame within the channel. The lips and flanges eliminate interference fit wafers that tend to bow the receptacle frame increasing chances of open circuits or poor contact between the receptacle terminals and the mating plug terminals.
Abstract: Disclosed is a trigger device for release of the restrained link arm in a memory card connector. In this device a longitudinally directed force which may result, for example, from the activation of an electrical current in a memory wire causes a rotational force transfer device to withdraw a pin from the link arm so that the link arm moves out of its restrained position in response to a longitudinal force provided by a spring connected to the link arm.

Abstract: Disclosed is a closure device which projects from the side elements of the frame of a memory card connector to provide security for the memory card. The activation of the closure means is coordinated with the movement of the card eject plate so that after the card is inserted the connector cannot readily be tampered with to remove the card.

Abstract: Proposed is a connector assembly for electrically coupling a shielded cable to a ground plane. The assembly includes a metal shroud with pins for press-fitting to the ground plane, and a plug with a shield connection clamped or taped to the cable shield. Ground connections are provided by two paths: one from the drain wire of the cable through a signal contact in the plug and the other through the shield connection and shroud. Spacers in the shroud provide a keying function while permitting end-to-end stacking of plugs. Latching features on the plug and shroud hold the plugs in position and prevent insertion of the plug in the wrong orientation. Heat stakes in the plug can be used for the latching feature.

Abstract: Disclosed is a memory card and connector assembly which has a spring positioned in recesses in the lateral longitudinal elements of the frame which impart additional forward longitudinal force to the card as the card passes over those recesses to allow the card to be ejected to a distance where it is easily gripped and withdrawn by the user. The invention also includes a method for ejecting a memory card from a computer in which the memory card is first moved forward and out of engagement with the connector to an initial distance after which it is moved still further forward by an automatically activated resilient device. A method of ejecting a memory card by means of this assembly is also disclosed.
