Abstract: A saddle type pipe clamp that is adjustable to a wide range of pipe sizes includes a saddle portion formed by a pair of complementary saddle elements of channel stock. Each saddle portion includes curved clamping surfaces, and a bolt hole and slot in the closed edge. An elongate threaded rod is provided which is manually bent around a pipe to form a U-bolt. The saddle elements are adjusted to fit the U-bolt, and installed with washers and nuts. The ends of the U-bolt may be trimmed after installation.
Abstract: An electrical plug for 3-wire line cords includes a plug body having a U-shaped grounding pin. A rise pin is disposed between opposing walls of the U-shaped grounding pin. A locking element extending through the plug body includes a threaded proximal portion and a flat distal portion, the distal portion having a ramp disposed over the rise pin and a serrate edge opposite the ramp with the distal portion disposed within the grounding pin opposing walls. A locking knob is threaded onto the proximal portion. With the plug in an outlet, the knob is rotated clockwise to draw the flat distal portion rearward causing the ramp to ride up the rise pin and to cause the serrate edge to grip the inner surfaces of the grounding socket. Rotating the knob counterclockwise releases the serrate edge to permit withdrawal of the plug from the outlet.
Abstract: A trash collection system includes a point-of-use container having a plurality of removable bins with each bin for a different recyclable material. A pickup container, transportable to a pickup location, has a plurality of bins corresponding to the point-of-use bins, each bin having a normally closed hinged lid. A truck body has a set of bins corresponding to the pickup container bins and an automated arm mechanism for picking up, and inverting the pickup container over the truck body bins. Each lid is released selectively, when each bin is over a corresponding truck body bin, to dump the contents of the container bins. The container is then returned to its pickup location and released.
Abstract: A device automatically re-keys a transmitter after a transmission ceases, and thereafter transmits a preselected audio signal. The device has a key-open sensor for sensing the end of a transmission and for initiating the audio signal. A keying circuit is controlled by the sensor to re-key the transmitter. An audio sensor senses the presence of the audio signal and controls the keying circuit to un-key the transmitter when the audio signal ceases.
Abstract: A person having functional scoliosis is weighed on a bilateral scale, and the amount of bilateral unbalance calculated. A corrective weight is calculated, and installed in pockets of a harness that supports the weight below the armpit of the person. The harness includes a chest strap, a shoulder strap, and a plurality of weight pockets. A plurality of thin lead weights is provided to be selectively inserted into the pockets. A pocket element may be provided that is attachable to a brassiere strap.
Abstract: A prosthesis for guarding a residual limb after a lower limb amputation includes an upper shell, lined with a soft material, and matching the limb residuum. A lower shell telescopes over the upper shell. Each shell has a slot in its lower end. A first high density foam pad is disposed in the lower shell such that the lower end of the upper shell rests thereon. The patient dons a stump sock having an elongate thin strap at its distal end. The strap is threaded through a second soft plastic foam pad, the slot in the lower end of the upper shell, the high density foam pad in the lower shell, and through the slot in the lower end of the second shell. Fasteners are provided for anchoring the strap to an external surface of the lower shell. The shock due to a patient falling on the residuum is absorbed by the lower shell telescoping further over the upper shell to permit the pads to compress, as well as by the compression of air between the shells.
Abstract: A step starter for attachment to devices having small internal combustion engines of up to 15 horsepower or more having recoil-type starters includes a vertical track formed from channel stock. A trolley having a foot pedal extending therefrom is disposed in the track. A distal end of the engine starter pull cord is attached to the trolley. An operator steps on the pedal and depresses the pedal downward thereby operating the recoil starter. The track includes a mounting bracket formed to permit attachment of the step starter to a desired device.
Abstract: Apparatus for receiving separated materials for selective collection of the materials includes a container divided into a plurality of bins, each bin for receiving one type of separated material, and lids for closing each of the bins. A lifting channel assembly is attached to the container, and a pickup arm assembly is provided for engaging said lifting channel preparatory to picking up said container.
