  • Patent number: 4682642
Abstract: A system for securing the edges of plastic sheeting or the like is formed from metallic extrusions using three elements: a base element; an intermediate element; and a cap element. The base element is mounted to the surface to which the sheeting is to be attached and the cap element is placed over the sheeting and interlocks with the base element. If multiple sheets of plastic film are to be secured, intermediate elements may be used with the cap element installed to secure the top sheet. Tension on the sheetings serves to lock the elements in place.

  • Patent number: 4681263
Abstract: A low profile sprinkler head has a circular cup-like base with a threaded male coupling for attaching to a buried water supply pipe and an axial bore therethrough. The base includes a plurality of openings to permit sand and debris to fall therethrough. A removable nozzle head is provided for insertion into the bore. The nozzle head includes fluted water passages and various configurations may be provided to produce different water spray patterns. Nozzles are designed to produce a friction fit in the bore. The upper portion of the nozzle head has a curved underside which is disposed within the base to deflect the spray in a horizontal plane. The assembly is installed below the grass mowing level to permit mowing without damage to the sprinkler head.

  • Patent number: 4669145
Abstract: A hose reel system for a sewer and catch basin cleaner and the like has a fixed mounted hose reel and a movable hose traction wheel. The hose reel includes a drive motor which rotates the reel in a direction to wind a hose onto the reel and a clutch which permits the reel to freely rotate when the hose is payed out. The hose traction wheel may be attached to a boom movable horizontally and vertically with respect to the reel and is driven by a motor to pay out the hose and a clutch which permits the traction wheel to turn freely during rewind of the hose. A first fairlead assembly mounted to the fixed reel and a second fairlead assembly mounted to the hose traction wheel guides the hose to permit pay out and rewind when the traction wheel is not in the plane of the reel.

  • Patent number: 4669678
Abstract: A gravity controlled automatic paper winder for continuous type paper form a printer has a spool supported by a framework. The spool is coupled by a ratchet assembly to a motor and gear reduction assembly and permits the spool to rotate only in a direction to wind paper onto the spool. The motor and gear reduction assembly is supported only by the gear reduction output shaft and is free to rotate about the ratchet assembly. A limit switch on the framework controls power to the motor. When paper is fed from a printer to the spool, the motor and gear reduction assembly rotates downward by gravity to contact the limit switch, energizing the motor. When no paper is fed from the printer, tension due to rotation of the spool causes the motor and gear reduction assembly to rotate upward, opening the limit switch and deenergizing the motor.

  • Patent number: 4667428
Abstract: An advertising sign holder for attachment to a vehicle roof is molded from a translucent plastic sheet. A triangular base flange has a hollow truncated pyramid with a triangular base integral therewith. The pyramid includes an integral top. Suction cups are attached to the corners of the base flange for the dual function of attaching the sign to a vehicle roof and maintaining separation of a plurality of signs nested together for storage. An electric light disposed within the pyramid portion provides illumination of the sign holder.

  • Patent number: 4659039
Abstract: A drive motor system is coupled to the landing gear wheels of an air craft via a free wheeling clutch assembly. The drive motor system is energized when the landing gear is extended preparatory for landing either manually or automatically. The drive motor system is controlled to rotate the wheels to have the linear velocity of the periphery of a wheel the same as the ground speed of the aircraft at touchdown. A touchdown sensor stops the drive motor system at touchdown causing the clutch assembly to disengage the wheels when the rpm of the wheel is greater than the drive system rpm. An automatic control system is described.

  • Patent number: 4650034
Abstract: A safety escape chute for assisting in rescue of persons from burning buildings and the like has a generally U-shaped chute mounted on a vehicle and having a length to reach from the ground to the highest level required. The system includes extensible supports which may be hydraulically operated to extend the upper end of the chute adjacent a window from which persons are to be evacuated. The chute includes a water inlet at the upper end and a drain manifold partway down the chute. Water is pumped out the water inlet so as to form a thin flow of water down the center of the chute which is collected at the drain and returned to the source. This water flow will accelerate persons entering the chute. The vertical side portions of the chute adjacent the water flow are lined with an anti-friction material such that the person may utilize this material to control his rate of descent.

  • Patent number: 4649680
Abstract: A skylight system for standing seam metal roofs, shingle roofs and sun roofs in which sheet plastic skylights having upstanding edges are provided. In one embodiment, a skylight is installed in a roof formed from metal standing seam panels. In another embodiment, a skylight is installed in an opening in a shingle roof in which step flashing is used to form a standing seam with the skylight upstanding edges and a watertight joint with the roof shingles. Another embodiment utilizes the skylights in which the flat edges are formed by folding over to make lateral joints between adjacent skylights while longitudinal joints are formed by abutting the upstanding edges to thereby produce a sun roof.

  • Patent number: 4635892
Abstract: An active vibration suppressor for suppressing vibrations in structures, such as buildings, has an actuator attached to the structure and an extendable rod of the actuator attached to a seismic mass which is thus moved by the actuator. A sensor is attached to the structure adjacent to the actuator and connected to a compensated power amplifier which operates the actuator. Movement of the structure is sensed and the actuator moves the seismic mass in a direction to oppose the structural displacement thereby minimizing structural vibrations.

  • Patent number: 4633681
Abstract: An expansion device for refrigeration systems replaces capillary tubes and automatic expansion valves. A housing is provided having an inlet tube for connection to the liquid line from the condenser and an outlet tube for connection to the evaporator. The outlet tube has a valve like seat in its inner end and orifice grooves formed in the seat. A steel ball is movably disposed in the housing such that liquid refrigerant during compressor operation forces the ball into the seat thereby forming an expansion orifice between the ball and the seat.

  • Patent number: 4621774
Abstract: A pulverizer for reducing cremated remains having a horizontally mounted fixed cylindrical drum having a top opening and a plurality of perforations over a lower sector of the drum. A free cylindrical reducing bar is disposed parallel to the axis of the drum over the perforate sector. A reciprocating drive shaft, driven from an electric motor, is mounted concentrically within the drum having a yoke assembly driven therefrom which engages the reducing bar for rolling the bar reciprocally over the perforations. Ashes deposited through the top opening are reduced and thereafter pass through the perforations for collection in a drawer. Clearance is provided between the yoke assembly and the reducing bar to permit the bar to pass over noncrushable matter mixed in with the ashes.
