  • Patent number: 6679255
Abstract: An inhaler capable of administering powdered medicaments contained in a capsule is formed by a compartment housing the capsule, inside the cover or the body of the inhaler, and a cutting element, inside the same cover or the body. The element cuts or perforates the capsule, releasing the substance it contained. The powder falls into a grid reservoir below that holds the pieces of the case end lets only the powder pass through. Once the capsule is inserted into the compartment, it will be sufficient to activate the cutting device, then place the mouthpiece into the mouth and breathe in, so that the powdered substance dispersed into the chamber can reach the lungs. The inhaler may be equipped with disposable accessories to be placed into the mouth, otherwise it may be used with specific accessories for inhaling the substances also by the nose.

  • Patent number: 6679119
Abstract: A sensor for detecting stress waves for use in a stress wave analysis system. The stress waves are preferably detected in a narrow frequency range of 35-40 KHz. At this range, stress waves from friction and impact sources typically propagate through machine structures at detectable amplitudes. In order to maximize the signal to noise ratio of stress waves, relative to background noise and vibration, the sensor of the present invention is designed and calibrated with a frequency response and damping features that are specifically tailored for stress wave analysis. The sensor is a multi-functional sensor that can measure a number of logically related parameters for indicting the mechanical condition of a machine. It is often desirable to measure both friction and one or more other parameters appropriate for indication of a machine's health, where all of the measuring capability is contained in one sensor.

  • Patent number: 6662416
Abstract: An artificial underwater memorializing catacomb and reef system and evocative environment for a visitor is made from one or more urns containing cremated remains imbedded at least partway within a plurality of concrete forms, whereby the concrete forms are interlocked and/or stacked to form the catacomb. The catacomb includes tunnels and underwater enclosed spaces accessible to visitors. The tunnels and the enclosed spaces may be accessed by intermediate openings or through tunnel entrances. The catacomb is formed by mixing a concrete mixture, placing one or more molds for the forms on a vessel and pouring the mixture into the molds. One or more urns containing cremated remains is then interposed at least partway within the molds before the mixture sets, thereby forming one or more concrete forms when the mixture sets. The mixture is allowed to set, and the concrete forms are placed underwater in a stacked and interlocking orientation.

  • Patent number: 6663016
Abstract: A melter, mixer and applicator system for applying coating or sealing compositions is disclosed. A diesel engine provides the motive force necessary to operate many of the components of the system. A tank surrounded by an internal heating system is provided for melting a first material. An insulated cabinet is provided and heated from heat generated by the internal heating system. The plumbing configuration is disposed within the heated cabinet for mixing the material heated within the tank with an additional material fed to the plumbing configuration by a proportioner pump. The output of this mixture serves as one of the inputs to the applicator. The other input to the applicator is another material fed directly from the proportioner pump. The proportioner, preferably provides the two materials running through it in a predetermined ratio amount with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 6659689
Abstract: Airway and equipment protective buoyant, rescue, marking and recovery devices are disclosed. A garment mounted dual zipper cover releases a bladder that creates a reliable mandibular shelf and bracket while simultaneously encapsulating the crico-thyroid cartilage protecting it from compression. A dual wall personal floatation device (PFD) with its over sized inner bladder creates extended midline crossing. A dual chambered inner bladder separates the compressed gas inflated high-pressure low-volume bladder required for corrective turning from the higher-volume lower-pressure orally inflated chamber which provides the additional buoyancy needed to improve freieboard. A dual release fabric lock handle allows for the quick release of the deflated redundant abdominal PFD which then serves as an accurately thrown rescue inflatable. A PFD integrated variable-displacement dual-pressure personal life raft uses compressed gas to inflate a rigid floor conferring sufficient buoyancy to support the Marines 35 lb.

  • Patent number: 6653541
Abstract: A drumstick capable of varying the physical characteristics of an impact of the drumstick to a surface thereby varying the sound that the drumstick can produce when playing percussive type impact musical products is disclosed. The drumstick includes an outer, hollow rigid tube-like body member including a handle portion adapted to be held by the hand of a user. A pliable tube-like membrane structure is positioned within the outer hollow body member, the pliable structure changing its shape during use of the drumstick. A liquid medium is located within the pliable structure, the pliable structure being shaped to restrict the liquid to the handle portion of the drumstick, and as a rotational force/motion is applied by a user to the drumstick, the liquid is forced outwardly toward a striking area of the drumstick thereby resulting in a change of balance of the drumstick.

  • Patent number: 6652190
Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing a pipe casing underground without a trench for distances up to 400 feet with pipe casing up to 168 inches in diameter. The system uses a modified high energy piling hammer to mobilize the energy to drive the casings or tubings that make up the instant tunnel. An example of a piling hammer used in the present invention is the IHC Hydrohammer line of models in between the S-90 and S-280. Specific models planned to be used in this invention, depending on diameter and length requirements and type of soil in the planned alignment, are the Models S-90, S-150, S-280, S-400 and S-500. The present invention's Hydrohammers are needed to be held against the casing pipe to be driven with a force equal to the reactional force of the hammer during recharging of the hammer's system. A special helmet and cutting head increase operational capabilities.

  • Patent number: 6629807
Abstract: A truck bed cargo barrier for use with a truck bed for stabilizing cargo items longitudinally and laterally. The cargo barrier is slidable relative to the front and back of the truck bed along a track system. The cargo barrier may be locked in a user specified position along the track system to accommodate the size of the load being carried forming a divider, or may be flipped up into a temporary storage position for linear cargo exceeding the length of the bed. Tie down brackets for bungee cords are adjustably attached to the barrier frame to secure cargo laterally. A barrier panel is connected to laterally adjustable, rigid side plates, each including two spaced apart wheels that ride on a pair of longitudinal tracks on the side walls of the truck bed. The spaced apart wheels firmly secure the barrier panel in a vertical position. A manual actuator permits manual positioning of the barrier panel along the bed frame front to back.

  • Patent number: 6622968
Abstract: A guided aerial delivery device which safely and precisely delivers a standard vehicle, personnel and/or cargo, from a high-flying aircraft, to a precise target or location. In the preferred embodiment, the aerial delivery device generally comprises a cage-like module, which encloses and secures a standard, motorized vehicle, a large “ram-air” type gliding parachute, a“drogue” parachute and a “fly-by-wire” control system. The vehicle, typically an ATV, needs no modification. The delivery device employs an onboard human pilot to navigate the module. Upon exiting the aircraft, a drogue parachute stabilizes the freefall of the vehicle and releases the large “ram-air” parachute. The use of a skilled pilot allows the aerial delivery device to be guided to a designated landing site. Upon landing, the vehicle is easily detached from its parachute member and driven away.
