Abstract: A rectangular metallurgical furnace is provided with at least six electrodes which are symmetrically arranged in two rows along the longitudinal axis of the furnace. Each pair of electrodes form a single phase circuit. A transformer is also provided for each pair of electrodes to form bifilar conductor leads. The spacing between adjacent and opposite electrodes is adjusted to provide a continuous bath surface over a maximum horizontal cross section. Adjacent and opposite pairs of electrodes are located in the corners of imaginary squares.
Abstract: A sound and dust insulating wall separates the furnace hall from the casting hall in a metallurgical mill. In order to allow the transport of an overhead crane from one hall to the other, an upper wall portion of the separating wall pivots out of the way. The wall portion comprises frame elements and a plurality of relatively thin overlapping slats. The wall portion is opened by pivoting the frame elements about a horizontally extending hinge. The slats, secured to the frame elements by hinges, also pivot, so that the slats only block the now opened crane passageway by not more than the width of one individual slat.
Abstract: The invention concerns an electro-metal smelting furnace with at least one taphole located at the bottom with which hole is associated a closure equipped with a drive.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a new and improved thermodynamic device to produce hydrogen gas and oxygen gas from ordinary water molecules or from seawater at normal temperatures and pressure. Also disclosed is a new and improved method for electrically treating water molecules to decompose them into hydrogen gas and oxygen gas at efficiency levels ranging between approximately 80-100%. The evolved hydrogen gas may be used as a fuel; and the evolved oxygen gas may be used as an oxidant.
Abstract: Disclosed is a turbulent waterway having boats guided in a trough extending between an uphill starting point and a downhill terminus, a chain conveyor having a series of links extending on a slope between said starting point and said terminus and adapted to travel upwardly therebetween, at least one locking bar with transverse grooves is adapted to mesh with the links of said chain conveyor supporting said links for sliding therealong.
Abstract: In a steel manufacturing mill, two opposed furnaces are provided with a turntable located between the furnaces. The turntable supports and rotates casting ladles which are filled from the output of the furnaces. The present disclosure is specifically related to the provision of a hoisting crane in the furnace area which has its longitudinal axis in a vertical plane passing through the central axis of the two furnaces.
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a soot blower of the long retracting type. In accordance with the invention, a novel cable drive system is provided to impart a traverse motion to the lance tube of the soot blower. The cable drive system comprises a rotatable, cable-supporting drum, a first cable including one end fastened to the drum and extending from the drum to an operative connection with the traveling carriage supporting the soot blower lance tube and a second cable including an end fastened to the drum and extending from the drum to an operative connection with the traveling carriage on a side thereof opposite to the side which is connected to the first cable. The drum is selectively rotatable in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction and rotation of the drum is operative to move the traveling carriage in an advancing or retracting direction along a predetermined path of travel.
Abstract: A support vessel for a metallurgical furnace having circumferentially spaced vertical support members which are laterally removable, as desired, from the area of the vessel wall. In one embodiment of the invention, the vertical supports are pivotally positioned at one end of the vessel wall.
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to the construction of a traveling overhead crane, to enable a desired high degree of precision to be maintained in the attachment of wheel-carrying top girders to the opposite ends of a movable bridge girder. The bridge girder is provided with end plates, to which the respective wheel-carrying top girders are bolted. The end plates are formed with machined annular recesses, surrounding the bolt holes through which the top girders are attached. These machined recesses are so formed that the bottoms thereof constitute a common reference plane. Tubular sleeves of known axial dimension, are received in these recesses and serve to accurately locate the top girders with respect to the predetermined reference plane. The tubular sleeves may in some cases be very short, in the nature of thick washers, for example, or they may be elongated tubes extending through and welded to the top girders.

Abstract: Aqueous, electro-dipping varnish/coating material, which can be deposited at the cathode and which contains(A) as cationic synthetic resin binder, an amino group-containing carrier resin with an amine number of 50 to 200 and a hydroxyl number of 50 to 400,(B) as nonionic synthetic resin binder, a water-insoluble wire-coating resin from the group of polyesterimides, polyesteramidimides and polyhydantoins with a melting point higher than 60.degree. C. in an amount of 50 to 2000 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of component A, and(C) transesterification catalysts, which are essentially stable in water, in an amount of 0.1 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the sum of components A and Band processes for coating electrical conductors therewith.
Abstract: A shaft furnace for recycling non-ferrous metals is provided with a crane runway extending horizontally above the furnace opening, on which a movable carrier transports sorting containers to the furnace. The carrier is provided with a lifting and gripping mechanism for moving and transporting the sorting containers. The shaft furnace is provided with a plurality of individually sealable lock chambers which are locked and sealed from the furnace and the outside atmosphere by selectively opening or closing flaps. In addition, a good seal is provided between the sorting container and the shaft furnace by a sealing surface formed by a metal strip which is located opposite the sealing edge of the sorting container.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a floating screed type asphalt paver provided with extendable, retractable auxiliary screed units which, in their retracted positions, are mounted in front of the main screed and carry edger plates. By mounting the screed extensions in front of the main screed units, it is possible to retract the extension units without interrupting paving operations. A strike-off plate may be positioned in front of the extension units to limit the presence of paving material between them and/or the extension units may be provided with bevelled inner edges for displacing such material during retraction. Novel arrangements are provided for mounting and adjusting the screed extensions.
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a modular tower-like structure for displaying merchandise for point of purchase sale. The basic tower is formed of cylinders of a plastic sheet material, such as clear "rigid" die cut vinyl plastic, of a thickness enabling it to be collapsed into a relatively flat form for shipping and storage. The sheet plastic tower elements are given a rigid cylindrical form by means of molded plastic end rings, which are of a channel-like cross sectional configuration to lockingly receive the ends of the cylinders. The end rings are of a form and configuration enabling two of them to be bonded in back-to-back relation, providing a structural interlock between the top of one tower module and the bottom of a second tower module above it. The structure is simple, inexpensive, conveniently packaged and shipped, and easily assembled at the display site.
Abstract: An apparatus for equalizing the pressure in shaft furnaces which are operated at a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure. At least one storage bin is connected to the furnace chamber, although isolated from the atmosphere and the furnace chamber by sealing valves. A gas pipeline serves to selectively supply or exhaust gas to the storage bin to equalize pressure. In one embodiment of the invention, two storage bins are interconnected by a gas pipeline and appropriate valves for equalizing pressure between the storage bins.
Abstract: A multiple compartment banding sleeve is proposed in the form of a cylindrical band of heat shrinkable material, e.g., PVC, which is divided into two or more envelopes by longitudinal seams. The sleeve may be used to wrap, protect and display a grouping of similar or dissimilar items.
