The drive arrangement comprises a rotatable member (40) for receiving the fluid, and having mounted thereon a plurality of drive members (56). The drive members (56) are movable between a drive position, in which the drive members can drive, or be driven by, the fluid, and a non-drive position in which the drive members (56) are substantially prevented from driving or being driven by a fluid received in the rotatable member (40).
Abstract: In order to allow dual fuel operation, that is to say gas and liquid fuel, a fuel injection arrangement and an assembly are provided in which an injection conduit provides constriction to an airflow towards an outlet. In an assembly a plurality of arrangements including liquid fuel jets are arranged to such that through high angle incidents by the airflow appropriate vaporization and droplet formation is achieved for a fuel/air mixture combustible in a combustor of a turbine engine. At low liquid fuel flow rates below a pre-determined level the liquid fuel is atomised and entrained by the airflow. At high liquid fuel flow rates the fuel splash impinges upon a wash surface to develop a wash film which is again vaporised and atomised about an edge for a fuel/air mixture capable of combustion.

Abstract: A solid oxide fuel cell component (12) comprises a plurality of solid oxide fuel cells (24) arranged in spaced apart relationship, and in electrical series, on a surface of the porous gas permeable support structure (16). Each solid oxide fuel cell (24) comprises a dense gas tight electrolyte member (28), a porous gas permeable first electrode (26) and a porous gas permeable second electrode (30). Each electrolyte (28) is arranged in contact with a corresponding one of the first electrodes (26), each second electrode (30) is arranged in contact with a corresponding one of the electrolytes (28). Each of the first electrodes (26) is arranged in contact with the surface of the support structure (16). The interconnectors (32), the peripheral seal layer (34) and the electrolytes (28) are arranged to encapsulate all of the first electrodes (26) except for the surfaces of the first electrodes (26) in contact with the surface of the support structure (16) to prevent leakage of reactant from the first electrodes (16).

Abstract: The present invention relates to fine hollow powder with a titanium oxide shell, obtained by spray drying an exfoliated titania sol, and thin flaky titanium oxide powder obtained by pulverizing the fine hollow powder, and also to processes for producing the same. Abstract: A process for locating and measuring deformation in a civil engineering structure wherein at least one geosynthetic fabric (1) containing a plurality of optical fibers (2a to 2e) in parallel and capable of transmitting signals is applied in the structure or under the structure. The optical fibers contain Bragg gratings (3), evenly spaced in series (4) of N1 consecutive gratings that correspond to the same wavelength. The series is distributed in identical sets, each of which contains N2 consecutive series that correspond to the different wavelengths, and, in at least two optical fibers, the numbers N1 of gratings of a series and the numbers N2 of series (4) of a set (5) are determined to locate the deformations to which the structure is subjected on the one hand and, on the other, to measure the elongation of the said optical fibers where the deformation occurs.

Abstract: A joint for a gas turbine fuel injector, the joint comprises a housing for supporting a fuel injector, a first tube terminating within the housing and a second tube. The housing at least partially encloses an adaptor having a bore, with one end of the first tube and one end of the second tube being located within opposing ends of the bore. First sealing means are provided between the outside of the first tube and the adaptor bore, second sealing means are provided between the outside of the second tube and the adaptor bore and third sealing means are provided between the outside of the adaptor and the housing. The joint is particularly suitable for conduits carrying a relatively cold fluid mounted in a relatively hot housing.

Abstract: Use of a common electrical power bus to which a number of electrical power generators and consumers are coupled is well known. Typically, a high electrical capacitance is provided across the bus in order to provide stabilisation in the switching of generators and consumer devices as well as differences in the operational performances of the electrical power generators. Particularly in aerospace applications provision of high capacity electrical capacitors creates problems. By providing a feedback control and an electrical power converter take primary electrical power from an electro-mechanical converter associated with a rotating component of a prime mover, electrical power stabilisation is achieved by applying torque changes through the electromechanical converter to the rotating component of the prime mover such that stored electrical power can then be drawn as required to accommodate transients in electrical power on the bus.
Abstract: A conductor element for a superconducting FCL has an elongate superconducting element 18 surrounded by bodies 26a, 26b, which form a thermal mass around the element 18. The thermal mass is in thermal connection with a cooling system, such as a cryogenic system. The bodies 26a, 26b are solid, for example copper. The thermal mass maintains even temperature along the element 18, to improve fault response and recovery. Cooling functions are provided externally of the conductor element and may be by means of conventional cryogenic cooling systems. The element is free of cryogens and robust.
Abstract: A channel adapter, configured for sending frame data according to link widths selected based on management frames received from a link partner, includes a multiplexer circuit configured for selectively switching the frame data supplied according a prescribed maximum link width, to one of a plurality of available link widths for a transmit bus, and a bus controller. The bus controller is configured for controlling the multiplexer circuit to switch the frame data to one of the available link widths, including the prescribed link width, based the selected link width. Hence, a channel adapter can be configured for an optimum link width for communication with a corresponding channel adapter on a peer node.
Abstract: A hydrogen energy system for a facility that is disposed off-board a vehicle. The system includes a hydrogen generator disposed at the facility for generating hydrogen by water electrolysis, a hydrogen storage apparatus for storing at least some of the hydrogen generated by the hydrogen generator, and a controller having a computer processor for receiving and processing certain control inputs. The controller is operatively connected to the hydrogen generator for controlling the generation of hydrogen based on the control inputs.

A solvent is supplied to the glue (22) on the metal-coated (18) fibers (14) to soften the glue (22) and pressure is applied to allow the metal-coated (18) ceramic fibers (14) to become more closely packed. Thereafter the glue (22) is removed and the metal coated (18) fibers (14) and first and second metal rings (30, 36) are consolidated and diffusion bonded together.
Abstract: A method for producing, by a laser that scans the rear side of a transparent object, figures and text that are recessed in the transparent material and that as seen from the outside (5) appear as a raised relief (1) and for which the effect of depth (d, d?) depends on the amplitude of a signal superposed the input, frequency-controlled laser power by which the screen pattern is obtained. By an optimal fineness of scanning relative the material of the sign, the figures may obtain a very strong luminescence even at a very low input edge-illumination power. Furthermore, the invention relates to an edge-illuminated electric sign (L1, L2) with a figure produced by the manufacturing method according to the invention. Furthermore, the invention relates to a mounting system in the form of two interacting molding strips (3, 4) for mounting one or more electric signs (L1, L2) manufactured according to the invention.
Abstract: In a fluid system for a gas turbine engine, oil is supplied from an oil tank (10) by a constant displacement pump (12) to lubricate engine components (18). The oil is supplied to the components (18) via a heat exchanger (16) in which oil and fuel are placed in direct heat exchange relationship. The flow of oil to the components (18) is controlled by recirculating a proportion of the oil flow through a bypass (20). The bypass (20) regulates the flow of oil to the components (18) so that the amount of heat transferred to the fuel in the heat exchanger (16) is controlled. At low engine powers a greater proportion of the oil flows through the bypass (20) to reduce the oil flow to the components (18). This reduces the heat transferred to the fuel in the heat exchanger (16) and so prevents overheating of the fuel.
Abstract: A connector for joining the interfacing ends of cables, one to another. Each cable includes a first plurality of conductor strands with each of the ends having an enlarged terminal portion of greater diameter than the cable adjacent said end. The connector includes a connecting tube, and an explosive layer provided about at least a portion of an outside surface of the connecting tube. The explosive layer includes a first portion of explosive and a second portion of explosive separated therefrom by an intervening interportion distance.
