  • Patent number: 8186512
Abstract: Low waste packaging for use with a consumer product includes a planar tag element of a generally rectangular configuration having front and back planar surfaces upon which advertising indicia may be printed and a cut-out into which a portion of the consumer product is received. The packaging includes first and second semi-annular ring portions that may be assembled around the consumer product when received within the cut-out and affixed to each other through the planar tag element. The method for packaging a consumer product includes receiving the consumer product within a cutout formed in a lower portion of a planar tag element; and assembling two halves of a retaining member about an upper shank of the consumer product so that annular portions of the retaining members contact the consumer product and laterally extensive tags of the retaining members sandwich the tag therebetween.

  • Patent number: 8176425
Abstract: A simple display of items from a list, which changes in synchrony with the corresponding video display, and permits simple navigation under user control. The display includes three control objects positioned below a video frame window on a display screen. A middle displayed object is located in a focus position and corresponds to the video segment currently being played in the video window. When play of the segment is complete, the object located to the right of the focus position moves and displaces the middle displayed object, most recently displayed within the focus position, to indicate a forward progression within the viewed video sequence.

  • Patent number: 8176113
Abstract: A rich media file is a self-contained file, including both the information to be viewed by a user and the viewer that displays the information to the user. The information can be formatted however the client likes: for example, the information can be split across several pages, and can include text and still and animated images. There can also be web links to pages on a network, and e-mail forms to simplify sending an e-mail message to the client. The rich media file can include viewing limitations, so that only the proper password can unlock the file, or that the rich media file will automatically expire after a specified condition occurs. The rich media file also assists the user in obtaining the latest version of the rich media file, by offering to retrieve a newer version for the user.

  • Patent number: 8143791
Abstract: A control system for a light-emitting device may include test circuitry, photodetectors, and process circuitry. The test circuitry is configured to sequentially drive individual groups of light-emitting elements in a light-emitting device during a test sequence. Each group of light-emitting elements includes one or more light-emitting elements. The photodetectors are configured to detect an intensity of light present at a plurality of locations of the light-emitting device during the test sequence and generate a detection signal corresponding to the detected intensity of light. The process circuitry is configured to process the detection signals and transmit an adjustment signal based on the processing. The light-emitting elements may then be driven such that at least one characteristic of light emitted by all of the plurality of light-emitting elements is substantially the same at each of the plurality of locations of the light-mixing region.

  • Patent number: 8131861
Abstract: Web traffic reporting methods that rely upon third-party cookies suffer in accuracy when those tracking cookies are frequently refused by web users or deleted once they have been accepted. The invention described herein circumvents this problem by employing first-party cookies instead. This is accomplished by a client-side script that maintains the first-party cookie (as placed by the web site in question) and sends a site-maintained visitor ID to a tracking service for analysis. The effect is to improve the accuracy of traffic statistics that rely on that cookie.

  • Patent number: 8120706
Abstract: We describe and claim a video system and method for automatic size and position adjustment according to the incoming stream. A detection module detects a size and a position of video including an aspect ratio of video on at least one channel of at least one video input source. An execution module adjusts a scale mode responsive to the detection of the size and position or aspect ratio of the video. Once the aspect ratio has been detected and the scale mode adjusted responsive to the detection, video is provided to the display of a display device. The detection and execution modules crop unintentional vertical blanking interval (VBI) lines from upconverted video signals. An on screen display includes a selection for active management that provides for automatic detection of size and position information, or a manual control mode for selection by the user.
