Abstract: Vortex gas separation is forced in radial counterflow between counter-rotating coaxial centrifugal impellers. Feed is at the axis of rotation. Axial extraction of nitrogen and water vapor is driven by an axial pump and by back pressure from the tank while radially outward flow of carbon dioxide and scrubbing targets is driven by the impellers. Scrubbing of the concentrated targets is in high turbulence during a long residence time. Tiny centrifugation effects of innumerable turbulent eddy vortices in a shear layer between the impellers and in the tank are integrated by the forcing regime of the impellers and the axial pump. Radial vortices caused by shear between the counter-rotating impellers provide coherent sink flow conduits for axial extraction of nitrogen ballast. Fine fly ash (PM-2.5) scrubbing is concurrent with NOx and SOx scrubbing and with carbon capture.
Abstract: A method to determine the color status of a scanned original segments a binary halftone image into a predetermined number of local windows and converts each local window to a device-independent color space. The method then determines a color space parameter for each local window and compares the color space parameters for the local windows to at least one threshold to determine the color status of the scanned original. An apparatus having a scanner creates a scanned image of an original and has at least one processor to create a binary halftone image from the scanned image, segment the binary halftone image into a predetermined number of local windows, convert each local window to a device-independent color space, determine a color space parameter for each local window, and compare the color space parameter for each local window to at least one threshold to determine the color status for the scanned original.
Abstract: A system and method for converting a pixel rate of a digital image frame is provided. The system includes a display controller with an embedded buffer and programmable input and output buffers. The input buffer writes lines of the frame at a source pixel rate while the output pointer reads out lines of the frame at a display pixel rate thereby allowing display of an image having a source pixel rate that is different, e.g., higher, than a display pixel rate.
Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism for categorizing telephone calls and for providing special information about calls that appear on call lists maintained in a telephone. The invention provides for both providing an indication and for providing an action. When an entry on a call list is highlighted (in a conventional manner), pressing one key adds a flag to the entry on the call list to indicate that follow up action is required. Pressing a second key initiates an action such as attaching a reminder so that the user will be reminded to take action later. Pressing a third key will provide a text message balloon indicating information about the call. The flags and text messages can be added by either the called party or the calling party.

Abstract: A first interconnect agent may append indicator packets to a normal packet depending on the destination of the normal packet. A second interconnect agent may receive packets from the first agent over a first point-to-point link. Logic in the second agent may interpret the number of indicator packets, if any, to decide whether a normal packet received over the first link should be processed at the second agent or forwarded over a second point-to-point link.

Abstract: To display content controlled by a portal outside of the portal itself, a user is authenticated to the portal and then permission to access the content authorized. After authentication and authorization, the requested content is returned to the requesting program. The content is returned in the user's preferred language, a using a layout information file to determine how to display the content. A layout strings file storing a layout string in a specific language is also selected, according to the user's preferred languages. The content from a content provider and the layout string are then formatted as specified by the layout information file, and presented to the user or the requesting program.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a user who places a telephone call on hold with a partial hold option. When a user places a first call on partial hold and picks up a second call, the user can still hear conversation and activity that occurs on the first call. For example a user participating in a conference call may receive a second call. The user can place the conference call on partial hold and pick up a second call (i.e. engage in a conversation on a second telephone call). However, the incoming channel to the conference call will remain active and the user will be able to hear, in the background, what is taking place in the conference call. Should the user hear something interesting in the conference call, or if the user hears someone ask a question directed to the particular use, the user can switch back to the conference call.
Abstract: A network device may provide secure fallback operations. The device includes a port allowing the device to communicate with a network and a processor to generate a security credential, provide the security credential to a call manager during initialization, and provide the security credential to a secondary device during fallback operations. The network device may include a memory to store the security credential and routing information for fallback operations.
Abstract: A method for tracking and reporting traffic activity on a web site first comprises storing a web page on a first server coupled to a network. When the web page is requested from a visitor computer, the visitor computer is selected (or not selected) for inclusion within a sample group, where the sample group is only a subset of the total traffic to the web site. A selection indicator is stored on the visitor computer associated with this selection. Data mining code within the web site is operated or not operated depending upon the value of the selection indicator. The data mining code is operated, and the activity of the visitor computer on the web site consequently tracked only if the visitor computer is selected as a member within the sample group, otherwise the data mining code is not operated and no traffic activity is generated.
Abstract: We describe a device and an associated method that includes an EHT signal processing module to generate a compensated gain signal responsive to a first EHT signal. A field fly-back processing module generates a first correcting signal responsive to a first VFB signal. A horizontal scanning correction module generates a predistortion signal responsive to the compensated gain signal. A first digital to analog conversion module converts the predistortion signal into a corresponding analog predistortion signal. A field scanning correction module generates a correcting wave responsive to the compensated gain signal and the first correcting signal. A pulse width modulated module generates a modulated correcting wave by pulse width modulating the correcting wave. A power amplification module generates an amplified modulated correcting wave by amplifying the modulated correcting wave. And a cathode ray tube displays an image responsive to the analog predistortion signal and the amplified modulated correcting wave.
Abstract: An integrated circuit including a resistive memory element and a method of manufacturing the integrated circuit are described. The method of manufacturing the integrated circuit includes depositing a switching layer material and intentionally forming inhomogeneously distributed defects within the switching layer material to increase a number of switching cycles of the resistive memory element. The resistive memory element includes a switching layer that selectively switches between a low resistance state and a high resistance state. The switching layer contains intentionally formed defects that increase the number of switching cycles of the switching layer.
Abstract: A method of fabricating a conductive line provides a substrate having a blanket layer of conductive material disposed thereon, a removing of a first portion of the blanket layer of conductive material to form one or more gaps that define a first line, the gaps adjacent to the first line, the first line having at least a first segment of a first width and a second segment of a second width, the first and second widths being different, a first increasing of the width of a first gap of the one or more gaps, the first gap adjacent to the first segment, by a first amount, and a second increasing of the width of a second gap of the one or more gaps, the second gap adjacent to the second segment, by a second amount wherein the first and second increasing depend upon a desired electrical characteristic. The first amount and the second amount may be different from each other.
Abstract: A structure and method for improving UV LED efficiency is described. The structure utilizes a tunnel junction to separate a P-doped layer of the LED from a n-doped contact layer. The n-doped contact layer allows the use of a highly reflective, low work function metal, such as aluminum, for the p-side contact. The reflectivity at the contact can be further improved by including a phase matching layer in some areas between the contact metal (The metal above the phase matching layer does not necessarily need to have a low work function because it does need to form an ohmic contact with the n-contact layer) and the n-doped contact layer.
Abstract: A print head has an array of jets to dispense ink onto a printing surface, an array of actuators to cause the jets to dispense ink and an ink manifold to route ink to the array of jets, the ink manifold being formed of at least one polymer layers. A print manifold has an array of jets formed on a metal plate, at least one polymer layer mounted on the metal plate, the polymer layer including an array of manifolds corresponding to the array of jets and an electronic circuit board mounted on the polymer layer, the electronic circuit board having an array of holes corresponding to the array of manifolds. A print system includes at least one ink reservoir at least one umbilical to transport ink out of the ink reservoir and a print head as described above.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring use patterns or services available information in video distribution networks. A network termination unit receives the video content through a port, demodulates and decodes the signals to produce display signals. The display signals are displayed on a viewing device connected to the network termination unit and the network termination unit monitors the use patterns and/or services available information of the viewing device. The unit then formats the use patterns or services available information into use pattern network packets and transmits them. A content analyzer receives use pattern packet from a network termination unit and decode them to access the data. The content analyzer then analyzes the use patterns and/or services available information and characterizes the unit. The characterization of the unit is then used to target content to that unit.
