Patent number: 8041028Abstract: Within audio telecommunications for audio-visual conferencing a means of reliable double-talk detection is required for several reasons, including control of residual echo, and control of adaptive algorithms used to estimate the echo. Existing techniques tend to either fail when echo return loss is very low or require highly complex algorithms to increase the range of detecting whether double-talk is occurring. The invention is based upon a new method of estimating the power envelope of the double-talk signal. This estimation is then employed in conjunction with a slightly modified version of an echo return loss enhancement (ERLE) based statistic, to form a double-talk decision based on a combination of the two statistics. The resulting decision rule works for both low-ERLE and high-ERLE situations, which is useful when there can be large variations in the magnitude of the echo path seen by the algorithms, or where near-end noise prevents the achievement of high ERLE.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2008Date of Patent: October 18, 2011Assignee: Magor Communications CorporationInventor: Kathryn Adeney

Patent number: 8010355Abstract: A method of reducing noise in a speech signal involves converting the speech signal to the frequency domain using a fast fourier transform (FFT), creating a subset of selected spectral subbands, determining the appropriate gain for each subband, and interpolating the gains to match the number of FFT points. The converted speech signal is then filtered using the interpolated gains as filter coefficients, and an inverse FFT performed on the processed signal to recover the time domain output signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2007Date of Patent: August 30, 2011Assignee: Zarlink Semiconductor Inc.Inventor: Kamran Rahbar

Method for correcting patient motion when obtaining retina volume using optical coherence tomography
Patent number: 7997729Abstract: A computer-implemented method of correcting for motion of a sample during OCT imaging obtains a series of cross-sectional volume scans through the sample at different positions on a first coordinate axis, obtains at least two cross-sectional alignment scans in planes intersecting said volume scans at an angle, and stores the alignment scans and the volume scans in memory. The alignment scans are matched to the volume scans at lines of intersection thereof to determine the relative displacement of the volume scans to the sample due to sample motion. The relative displacement is used to correct for motion of the sample between successive volume scans.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2008Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: OTI Ophthalmic Technologies Inc.Inventors: Duncan McLean, Justin Pedro, Clive Hayward -
Patent number: 7991941Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for facilitating access from a control system to the memory of a processor across two buses, one of which acts as a bottleneck to communication between the control system and the processor. A bridge between the two buses acts as an intermediary. The control system issues simple diagnosis and data loading verification commands across a slow bus to the bridge. The bridge then performs the data intensive tasks by communicating with the processor through a faster bus. The bridge writes and reads data to the processor, and generates checksums of the written and read data. The bridge then returns status information to the control system indicative of the comparison of the checksums. In the case of memory diagnosis, the control system need only issue a simple command to the bridge through the slower, which then diagnoses the memory through the fast bus by writing and reading data, and returns a status to the control system through the slow bus.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2008Date of Patent: August 2, 2011Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventor: Eric Fortin
