  • Patent number: 6298785
Abstract: A thin metal wire 8 is fused and vaporized by a predetermined amount of electrical energy supplied to the thin metal wire 8 for a short period of time, whereby a blasting substance 3 is expanded in volume. Therefore, a vaporization expansion force caused by the fusion and vaporization of the thin metal wire 8 moves a shock delivering member 22, so that the shock delivering member 22, colliding with a to-be-blasted object H1, delivers a shock to the to-be-blasted object H1, thereby blasting the to-be-blasted object H1.

  • Patent number: 6296490
Abstract: A ventilation training analyzer manikin, for providing a quantitative measurement of the relative proportions of breathable gas volume delivered to a patient's lungs and patient's stomach during ventilation attempts by a user, thus demonstrating that the user is or is not using proper ventilation methods and equipment operating techniques. The manikin has a pressure actuated valve that opens at 15 cm H2O gas pressure to mimic the opening of the human esophageal sphincter. The opening of the valve at high pressure shows users that delivery of excess volumes of high pressure gas results in aspiration of the stomach contents, potential lung damage and risk of death in some cases.

  • Patent number: 6256183
Abstract: A fuse comprising a tubular fuse casing and first and second conductive ferrules located on the exterior of the casing at opposite ends thereof. The second ferrule has an opening therethrough. A first short circuit fusible element is attached to the first ferrule, and a heater is attached to the second ferrule. A time delay over-current trigger mechanism electrically connects the first fusible element and the heater to each other in series in an electrical path between the conductive ferrules. The mechanism is connected to receive heat from the heater and to mechanically interrupt the electrical path when the heater heats up under low over-current conditions. An indicator mechanism is provided for indicating when the electrical path between the conductive ferrules is interrupted. The indicator mechanism is comprised of an indicator movable from a first position wherein the indicator is substantially within the casing to a second position wherein a substantial portion of the indicator is outside the casing.

  • Patent number: 6253510
Abstract: The invention relates to a lightweight gypsum coated decorative moulding, for installation on an interior building surface. The moulding is lightweight and flexible enough to withstand handling without cracking of the finished gypsum surface of the moulding. A gypsum coated surface is advantageous in that: fire resistance is enhanced; the moulding can be painted and repaired easily; and liquid gypsum compound can be used as an adhesive to install the lightweight moulding without mechanical fasteners or other support. Bevel joints can be cut with standard carpentry tools and the joints can be secured with liquid gypsum compound as well. The use of liquid gypsum compound as an adhesive and finishing coat ensures accurate fitting and finishing of joints as well as ease of repair. The moulding has an elongate foam core of a resilient expanded polystyrene foam solid, having a cross-sectional profile proportionately smaller than the desired cross-sectional profile of the finished decorative moulding.

  • Patent number: 6254730
Abstract: The invention provides a novel impact angle changing shower for spraying a fluid upon a moving belt surface while the belt travels at a selected belt velocity. The shower includes nozzles journaled to rotation about an axis in a plane normal to the belt surface and transverse to the belt direction. The nozzles are continuously supplied with pressurized fluid and direct a fluid stream at a selected nozzle velocity and nozzle angle relative to the plane. The orientation of the nozzles is selected to optimize the desired function namely, to clean the belt surface without damaging the belt fabric or felt, or to penetrate the belt to increase fluid absorption by the belt. The fluid stream nozzle velocity can be decomposed using vector mathematics into two vector components: a belt velocity vector component parallel to the belt direction; and a belt impact velocity vector oriented at an impact angle defined relative to the normal transverse plane.

  • Patent number: 6231408
Abstract: A pedal powered drive mechanism and an aquatic vehicle having such a mechanism are constructed primarily of lightweight inexpensive moulded plastic. The vehicle has a buoyant hull with a central longitudinal axis and saddle seat. Handle bar steering is mounted to the hull and a pedal powered drive mechanism drives a stem mounted propeller. The mechanism is constructed of moulded plastic components for simple assembly and results in an inexpensive lightweight drive compared to conventional metal components. The drive has a housing with two axially spaced apart shaft bearing cradles. The crank shaft is disposed in the cradles, with opposing crank arms and pedal mounts extending perpendicular to the crank shaft axis and outward of the cradles. A drive pulley is mounted on the shaft between the cradles by sliding a pulley central opening along the shaft over at least one pedal mount. Collars disposed on the shaft between the pulley and each cradle retain the assembly in a simple manner.
