Abstract: An antenna device for a high frequency radio apparatus is equipped with an antenna element which is placed on a circuit board whose peripheral shape has a curve. The antenna element also follows the peripheral shape of the circuit board to have a curved part when viewed from above. The antenna device also has a ground pattern where the antenna element touches. The ground pattern can be placed at a constant distance from the antenna element toward the board. Furthermore, the ground pattern can be formed on almost the entire area of the circuit board other than where the antenna element is formed. Also, the circuit board may be a multilayer circuit board, and the ground pattern can be formed almost on the entire area of any one layer of the multilayer circuit board other than where the antenna element is formed.
Abstract: In carving a decorative groove (7) formed in V-shape cross section extending from inside to outside on a dial plate (2) of a timepiece as a decorative plate, the slant angle of an inner slanted side (7A) forming the V-shape of the decorative groove (7) is made gentler than an outer slanted side (7B) at an inner part of the spiral, so that action of light reflected on the flat surface of the dial plate (2) macroscopically becomes similar to the light reflected on a bulging surface to give the central portion of the dial plate (2) a bulging appearance, whereby a three-dimensional effect is provided by the decorative groove (7) even when the dial plate (2) is made of a thin plate, thereby adding depth and a luxurious touch or aspect.

Abstract: When an electronic timepiece is in a power-saving mode in which the current time display is suspended, it is determined whether or not the charge voltage supplied from a high-capacity capacitor is higher than a predetermined reference voltage, and if higher, enough electrical energy is stored in the high-capacity capacitor to return from the power-saving mode to the display mode, so that a current time restoration process is performed upon detecting power generation. On the other hand, if the charge voltage is less than or equal to the predetermined reference voltage, the supply of the power supply voltage to the control circuits is stopped to prevent the electrical energy stored in the high-capacity capacitor from being consumed needlessly. As a result, the electronic timepiece can be reactivated quickly when the power generating device begins to generate power.
Abstract: Waste of consumables and a loss of mechanical durability resulting from interruption of printer initialization processes by reset requests sent to the printer by a host device during the host startup process are prevented. The printer has a power on initialization controller for initializing the printer when printer power is turned on; and a first timer for measuring a first predetermined time after the printer starts operating. The power on initialization controller performs a first initialization process if the first predetermined time monitored by the first timer has not passed. After this first predetermined time passes, the power on initialization controller performs a second initialization process differing from the first initialization process.
Abstract: A compression supporting package divider set. Within the scope of the invention, there is a divider having an upper edge and a spaced-apart lower edge, the upper and lower edges being connected by a side edge forming an end of the divider. A cut line extends from one of the upper and lower edges to an interior point of the divider spaced from the upper and lower edges and from the side edge. A fold line for folding the divider defines an axis of rotation intersecting the upper and lower edges and terminates at the interior point. The fold line is provided such that a first side flange portion of the divider defined between the cut line and the axis of rotation rotates about the axis together with a second side flange portion of the divider defined between the fold line and the side edge, thereby causing the first and second side flange portions to extend on opposite sides of the divider.
Abstract: A spatial light modulator is constructed from a conductive silicon mirror substrate and a glass electrode substrate including sodium, anode-bonded together. The silicon mirror substrate has micromirrors arranged in a matrix, torsion bars coupling these micromirrors in the x-direction, and a frame coupled to both ends of the torsion bars. A glass electrode substrate has a central depression, a rim around the periphery thereof, pillars projecting from within the depression, and electrodes and wiring driving micromirrors formed within the depression in an inclining manner. Both ends of the torsion bars are bonded to the rim of the frame portion, and intermediate portions of the torsion bars are bonded to the pillars. Both ends of the torsion bars are cut away from the frame portion during dicing.

Abstract: When a time keeping apparatus is in a power saving mode, performing time display is stopped, and the apparatus periodically receives external time data and sets the data into a second time counter and an hour-and-minute time counter. When the operation mode of the time keeping apparatus is switched from the power saving mode to the display mode, the apparatus resumes display of the current time based on the counted values in the second time counter and the hour and minute time counter.
Abstract: When clustered-dot dithering is employed in laser printers a banding effect sometimes results from the interaction of the dither matrix with non-uniform line spacing in the printer. We have found that we can lessen the effect of this interaction if we change the dither matrix as it moves over the image. We do this by modulating the dither matrix (halftone cell) as a function of the spatial position of the sub-area in the image. Halftone cells can be formed in a variety of patterns (e.g. vertical, horizontal, etc.) but generally their threshold values grow from a minimum value to a maximum value. Our process is to modulate the halftone cell according to a function: f (s, h) where s is the spatial position of the sub-area of the image and h is the halftone cell. We modulate the cell by altering the relative positions of the threshold values in the cell as we move the cell over the image.
Abstract: If a supply voltage reaches a voltage level that may lead to detection errors of a supply voltage detecting circuit, then a voltage detecting operation is prohibited if generation of power that can be charged into a high-capacity secondary power source is not detected, while the voltage detecting operation is continued if the generation of power that can be charged into the high-capacity secondary power source is detected.
Abstract: In a power generator (20) including a rotor (21), a stator (magnetic core) (22) and a coil (23), a formula (1) including hysteresis loss coefficient kh, eddy-current loss coefficient ke, resistivity &rgr; (&OHgr;·m), frequency f (Hz) and maximum amplitude magnetic flux density Bm (T) is applied in setting plate thickness of the stator (22). Since the plate thickness (d) (m) of the stator (22) is set to the minimum iron loss plate thickness (d) obtained by the formula (1), the iron loss of the magnetic circuit of the power generator can be reduced, thereby improving efficiency of the power generator.
Abstract: In a divers' information display device, a plurality of display modes or the manner of switching features has been improved in order to thus improve the display ability of the device. The divers' information display device has simplified switching of indications and is user-friendly. Specifically, a time mode 201 is changed to a log mode 203 by performing a manipulation, and to a plan and surface mode 202 by performing another manipulation. In the plan and surface mode 202, an amount of intracorporeal nitrogen, a nitrogen discharge completion time, a depth-of-water rank, and a non-decompression diving enabled time are indicated. After plunging into water is acknowledged, any of the time mode 201, plan and surface mode 202, and log mode 203 is automatically changed to a dive mode 204. After the dive mode 204 is designated, if a diver ascends, the dive mode is automatically changed to the plan and surface mode 202.
Abstract: An add-on cartridge structure for electronic devices having a housing formed from upper and lower case sections. The upper case is typically made from plastic and has a conductive layer formed on inside surfaces, while the lower case is made from a metallic material such as aluminum. A wall-like mating member is disposed on an outer edge of the lower case, and mates with the sides of the upper case to form a nearly rectangular cross section housing. The double conductive layer formed by the outside surface of the mating member and the inside surface of the upper case prevents leakage of electromagnetic radiation from the cartridge. Furthermore, high frequency noise is prevented by grounding both the signal ground of the printed circuit board and the frame ground at multiple locations. The conductive layer has a surface break caused by a through-hole through which the printed circuit board plug protrudes to the outside.
Abstract: An address generator (FIG. 6) of a display controller (16) includes an adder (62) that repetitively adds an image-row-offset value to the address generator's address output so that data sequentially fetched from a refresh memory (18) to refresh a display (20) properly represent the image data even though the display scanning orthogonal to the image data's sequence in the refresh memory. As the data are fetched, an omega network (90) re-orders the bits within the fetched data words in accordance with the current display scan so that the display will receive proper data even though each location contains data for a plurality of pixels in an orthogonally oriented image row.
