  • Patent number: 7904904
Abstract: Techniques for processing native events associated with tasks that are concurrently supported in a virtual machine are disclosed. The techniques allow the user of a virtual machine to concurrently perform tasks even if these tasks require processing of platform-specific (or native) events (e.g., platform-specific input). A smart event-dispatcher is used to dispatch native events to multiple tasks that are concurrently supported by the virtual machine. The smart event-dispatcher can determine which one of a plurality of concurrent tasks should receive the native event for processing. The determination can be made based on a variety of different criteria. In mobile devices, the foreground task is typically the only task that is displayed for the user of mobile devices at any given time. Thus, dispatching events to the foreground task is especially useful for a virtual machine that support a mobile device.

  • Patent number: 7903973
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented herein to achieve data privacy in the optical realm such that electronic encryption bottlenecks are removed, potentially increasing data transmission speeds to the limit of fiber optic media. In this regard, privatizing an optical data transmission may include dynamically altering a temporal length of data bits in an optical data transmission or dynamically altering a temporal length of data frames in an optical data transmission. For example, in a two-dimensional OCDMA signal, the temporal length of data bits may be altered by changing the number of time chips on a per bit basis (e.g., using OCDMA signatures having different temporal lengths). In an optical data bit scrambling signal, the temporal length of data frames may be altered by changing the number of time slices on a per data frame basis.

  • Patent number: 7903836
Abstract: An implantable microphone is disclosed having an external diaphragm and housing that forming chamber capable of being pressurized by deformational movement of the diaphragm induced by pressure waves (e.g., acoustic signals) propagating through overlying tissue. The chamber is shaped such that the volume of the chamber upon deflection of the diaphragm is reduced compared to a static volume of the chamber (i.e., volume of the chamber with no diaphragm deflection). As a result, the change in pressure within the chamber for a given diaphragm displacement is greater than it would be within a chamber having a cylindrical volume, leading to greater microphone sensitivity. In one arrangement, the chamber is shaped such that it is deeper at its center than at its edges, for example, to form a conical or paraboloidal volume.

  • Patent number: 7902465
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods that provide for enhanced connections between PTHs of multi-layer PCBs and electronic component leads, pins or the like, are described herein. The apparatuses and methods improve the likelihood that the PTHs are completely filled with solder thereby advantageously allowing the PCBs to exhibit high mechanical and electrical reliability. Complete filling of PTHs is achieved by configuring the electrically conductive layers within the multi-layer PCB stack in a manner that reduces the heat sinking effects of the layers during the soldering process. In this regard, the PTHs may not directly contact all of the internal ground or power planes, so the heat sinking or heat transfer effects are reduced. This feature enables molten solder to substantially or completely fill an entire PTH before freezing.

  • Patent number: 7900090
Abstract: Systems and methods (“utility”) for providing a computer system with a mechanism to record live data on a continuous basis which may be analyzed subsequent to a fault condition is provided. The utility uses the existing DRAM memory of a computer system as a retentive DRAM (RDRAM) device that may be used to store the data. To accomplish this, software and firmware is provided for continuously refreshing the DRAM memory across resets that are due to fault conditions. Further, non-maskable interrupts (NMI) are used to flag a variety of fault conditions to the computer system. To make the utility platform independent, a standardized power and configuration interface is used to implement a computer system reset that preserves the contents of the RDRAM.

  • Patent number: 7895779
Abstract: An apparatus hovering winged objects. The apparatus includes an elongate support and a driver with an output shaft that supports a first end of the support. The driver imparts an oscillating displacement to the first end of the support. A body is mounted at a second end of the support and wings are attached to the support at an offset distance from the body. The body is positioned near the second end to swivel or pivot in response to vibration of the support. The driver vibrates the first end at a frequency that shapes the support as a wave, and the frequency is selected or tuned such that the wings are displaced more than the body such by imparting a harmonic frequency on the support. The output shaft is positioned by the driver in angular positions to move the first end of the support and the body and wings.

  • Patent number: 7895400
Abstract: Multiprocessor systems conducting operations utilizing global shared memory must ensure that the memory is coherent. A hybrid system that combines hardware memory transactions with that of direct messaging provides memory coherence with minimal overhead requirement or bandwidth demands. Memory access transactions are intercepted and converted to direct messages which are then communicated to a target and/or remote node. Thereafter the message invokes a software handler which implements the cache coherence protocol. The handler uses additional messages to invalidate or fetch data in other caches, as well as to return data to the requesting processor. These additional messages are converted to appropriate hardware transactions by the destination system interface hardware.

  • Patent number: 7890633
Abstract: A method of associating a range of destination IP addresses with a real IP address for use with the Virtual Address Resolution Protocol is disclosed. The destination addresses may be a range of virtual IP addresses in a virtual network or a range of real IP addresses in a physical network. A record of the association of the range of destination addresses with a single real IP address is stored in a Virtual Address Resolution Protocol lookup table which is utilized when sending messages from a virtual IP address. The ability to assign a range of destination addresses to a single real IP address represents an extension of the use of VARP. The association of multiple destination addresses to a single real IP address allows an electronic device to function as a router to a widely distributed real or virtual network. The virtual network of the present invention adds a layer of encryption to the originating virtual network by sending encrypted data packets between the origin and destination addresses.

  • Patent number: 7889075
Abstract: A detection system comprising a plurality of taut wire panels having vertical detection/sensor wires. The sensor wires are tensioned to position trigger plates associated one or more of the wires. Trigger plate movement causes an actuating means to indicate a sensor wire has been moved. In one embodiment, sensor wires and portions of the panel frame have similar coefficients of thermal expansion to substantially eliminate environmental expansion effects that may result in false alarms. Linked sensor wires on adjacent panel may signal movement of entire panels. Panels are monitored by panel controllers reporting to sector controllers that report to a central command computer that automatically numbers sector and panel controllers at start-up. Bi-directional communication enables alarms and system faults to be precisely located.
