Abstract: A combination food carrier and amusement device comprising first and second panels having a removable bag member and a book secured to the inner surfaces thereof. The first and second panels are provided with removable handle portions which enable the device to transport food items retained in a bag member. The bag member and the handle portions are disposable so that the device remains as a unique amusement device and book.

Abstract: A power tong is disclosed having a pipe gripping device including plural jaws activated by independent expansible chamber linear motors. An air-driven hydraulic pump, whose output pressure is limited by an adjustable relief valve, supplies fluid to the jaw motors. The jaw force can thus be closely controlled, independent of tongs torque.

Abstract: A clamp for duplicating machines for lock keys comprising a pair of jaws (1,1',2,2') which are mounted on a threaded pin (4) rigid with a clamp support carriage (3), means for approaching said two jaws (1,1', 2,2') when clamping the key, and elastic means (8,6) interposed between said two jaws (1,1', 2,2') to keep them spaced apart. The clamp comprises, in a position misaligned with the line of action of the applied clamping force and at the opposite side with repect to the gripping faces of the jaws (1,1', 2,2'), a projecting portion causing, during the clamping stage, a moment opposite to the reaction moment caused by the clamped key.

Abstract: An order wire system which can be used during installation and maintenance of an optical fiber communication system comprises an optical fiber order wire to which engineers can connect at remote sites communication sets each of which includes a microphone and earphone allowing the engineers to communicate with each other. Full duplex and multi-party operation can be achieved with the sets according to the invention and, because the signals are regenerated, the range of operation is considerable. Both analog and digital communication is contemplated and different specific circuits are proposed. In a typical analog configuration, the microphone output is fed to first and second frequency modulators operating respectively at first f.sub.1 and second f.sub.2 center frequencies. The outputs of the modulators are summed and passed to a laser driver and laser which is optically coupled both to the upstream and the downstream side of the order wire.

Abstract: An elongated fishing lure which has generally flat and parallel sides through most of its length and which includes a through bore extending longitudinally through its length to accommodate a fishing line or leader freely therein.

Abstract: There is disclosed a conversion unit for attachment to an all terrain vehicle to convert it into a track laying vehicle. A subframe is attached to the rear of the track laying vehicle, and two idler wheels are mounted on the subframe. Spring strut means extend downwardly from an upper portion of the vehicle to the subframe and bias the latter downwardly. The unit is quickly and easily attached to an all terrain vehicle and as easily removed. It is possible to improve the luggage carrying capacity of the all terrain vehicle and to improve its safety. No special tools are required for installation or dismounting of the unit.

Abstract: An alarm system used in conjunction with a circuit breaker panel box indicating the presence of an overload condition. At least one sensor is provided in proximity with the circuit breaker box but is not physically connected thereto. This sensor senses various parameters which are inherent in an overload condition or which are produced by various circuitry connected to the circuit breaker which are enabled during an overload condition. This alarm system is set by closing the door of the circuit breaker panel box.

Abstract: A single use, disposable kit receives, and retains, toiletries and a diaper for the care of a baby in a sanitary, tamper-proof fashion. The kit is executed in a thin plastic film that is folded over upon itself so that the toiletries and diaper are enveloped within the interior of the kit and are protected against degradation.

Abstract: A process for the selective extraction of arsenic from acid solutions containing other metals comprising treating the solutions with polyhydroxybenzene derivatives in organic diluent; mono- and di- alkyl derivatives containing at least four alkyl carbon atoms of pyrocatechol and pyrogallic acid are particularly contemplated for use in the removal of arsenic from strongly acid copper-containing electrolyte solutions.

Abstract: Bottle filling machines are known in which a centering bell is attached to a bushing for vertical movement up and down on a filler tube. Downward movement of the bushing and bell is limited by a shoulder on an enlarged tip portion of the filler tube. The area of contact between the bushing and shoulder in prior art arrangements is a narrow circular flat area perpendicular to the long axis of the filter tube. Repeated contact between the bushing and the shoulder on the tube tip causes wear on the bushing and on the shoulder. The present invention reduces the rate of wear of the contact areas by forming the shoulder so that it slopes downwardly and outwardly an an angle of about 20.degree. to 45.degree. with respect to a vertical axis. The region of the bushing which engages the shoulder is also sloped downwardly and outwardly at substantially the same angle.

Abstract: The method for rendering wines sparkling is characterized by forming a dreg collection chamber inside the stopper, keeping said chamber in communication with the bottle interior during the dreg removal stage when the bottle is inverted or inclined, in order to enable the dregs to enter the stopper and, on termination of this stage or in any case before placing the bottle the right way up, interrupting communication between the dreg collection chamber and the bottle interior by acting from the outside, and so retaining said dregs in said chamber.To implement this method, the invention provides for the use of a plastic stopper characterized by comprising a first element which can be securely fitted to the bottle neck and contains an internal cavity, and a second element which is mobile relative to said first element in order, as a result of its movement, to open and close the dreg collection chamber provided in the interior of said second element and/or of said first element.

Abstract: A dental retention pin preferably made of metal is provided with a closed, cylindrical coating of bond assisting material, and an additional layer of a plastics filling material in order to obtain a physical-chemical or a purely chemical bond between the retention pin and the filling structure for obtaining a substantially increased retention power compared with known metal pins, which merely result in a mechanical or mechanical-physical joint to the filling structure. The retention force will be increased by shrinking the bond assisting layer or the outermost plastics layer onto said bond assisting layer around the pin so that the layer spans itself around the pin in a ring-like manner. Furthermore, examples for the structure of a retention pin are described, which improve the handling and insertion of such retention pins by the dentist considerably.

Abstract: A control system for power tongs comprises two tongs torque limiters, one of which limits tongs torque to a very low (hand-tight) level; the other limits torque at full make-up to, for example, 2000 ft.-lbs. The hand-tight torque limiter is manually or automatically disabled after the hand-tight level is reached. The system enables the operator to verify that the threads are properly engaged before applying full torque to the connection. The tongs have a very high reduction ratio, so that torque rises very slowly and can be more accurately controlled. The high torque limiter includes a normally closed shunt valve in series with an adjustable choke, the latter of which enables one to maintain a substantial, adjustable, residual torque on the pipe even after the shunt valve opens.

Abstract: The method for constructing microlens ends for optical fibres, particularly for biomedical and/or surgical use, is characterised by propagating in the optical fibre a radiation of the type used during the application of the fibre itself, and to which said fibre is transparent, and converting the wavelength of the radiation, outside to the fibre and in proximity to its output end, which has been previously cut along a plane orthogonal to its axis, into a band of wavelengths which can be absorbed by the fibre, for a time sufficient to cause localized fusion of the end.

Abstract: This invention relates to a ladder device, particularly to one that is collapsible. More particularly, provided is a ladder that can be opened or closed from the ground or some elevated point. Additionally, there is provided a feature so that the ladder can be completely closed. The ladder comprises a remote-control system that permits all of the above-identified attributes to be accomplished.

Abstract: A carrying case for a cellular telephone unit which would facilitate the portability of the telephone. The carrying case is relatively compact in nature and the interior of the case is provided with a cover and a plurality of specially designed brackets to conceal and/or anchor the cellular telephone unit consisting primarily of a transceiver, a battery and battery charging circuit, and a handset.

Abstract: Estrogens characterized by an aromatic ring of the formula ##STR1## are halogenated by electrophilic substitution of a halo atom at the 1-position of the aromatic ring after protection of the sensitive 3-hydroxyl substituent and amination at the 4-position. Preferred starting materials include estrones or derivatives thereof. The estrones are preferably reduced after masking and amination to form the corresponding estradiols, which are then halogenated, deaminated and deprotected to provide the novel 1-haloestradiols.

Abstract: A sensor system for measuring the pH level in a process flow pipe, such system utilizing a sensing electrode that fits within, and is protected by, a rugged cylindrical metallic sheath. The sensing electrode is slid by an insertion tube through a ball valve into the process flow pipe. Two spaced collars with two pairs of restraint cables cooperate to retain the sensor system in alignment during the insertion procedure. After insertion, the sensor system is held in position by the pair of shorter restraint cables extending between the collars, while a compression nut is advanced onto a tube fitting to mechanically join the insertion shaft to the sensor system.

Abstract: In a situation where animals, such as beavers, attempt to flood lands by blocking culverts or constructing dams across waterways, a device is used to maintain a constant flow of water through the dam or culvert. An elongated pipe or culvert with a downwardly directed opening distant from the culvert or dam is used. On the end of the pipe closest to the culvert is a gate which prevents animals and debris from passing through but allows for the smaller elongated pipe to communicate with the culvert. The beaver instinctively attempts to dam the gate area rather than dam the underwater opening of the elongated pipe, and thus is unsuccessful in stopping the flow of water.
