  • Patent number: 5823847
Abstract: A moving mouth mechanism for an animated character, the mechanism being mounted within the head of the animated character, such as a doll. A head member of the character has an electrical motor mounted in the head upper portion, and has an elongated flexible element or string attached at one end to a rotatable shaft extension of the motor. The other end of the string is attached to a pivotable lever which is spring actuated. The lever outer end is attached to a pivotable lower lip of the mouth in the head, so that whenever the motor is activated with an electrical signal such as from an audio and control system for the activated character, the pivotable lower lip is movable upward and downward so as to simulate normal realistic speech for the animated character.

  • Patent number: 5816686
Abstract: A miniature electric lamp and reflector assembly including a bulb holder unit with an electric memory retaining bulb and a base socket member for receiving the insert plug. The base socket has a member shaped cavity to accept the plug and a reflector member lower end, and has dual oppositely located radial projections at its upper end; a reflector has an annular-shaped lower sleeve portion which contains dual oppositely-located longitudinal grooves and is provided with an annular stop surface and dual notches at its upper end. Insertion of the base socket member upper end into the reflector member sleeve permits the dual projections to slide through the dual longitudinal grooves, and be rotated into the notches, which results in an interlocking connection joint between the base socket member the reflector.

  • Patent number: 5771844
Abstract: A cyclone separator adapted for attachment to the upper outlet end of a fluidized bed reactor such as an atmospheric (ACFB) or pressurized fluidized bed combustor (PFBC) has its gas flow capacity increased while maintaining high inlet gas flow velocity and particle separation efficiency. The cyclone inlet flow passageway has aspect ratio h/w increased to at least 4/1 and preferably to the range of 5/1 to 10/1. Also, the inlet passage inner wall is tapered or curved so that the inlet opening area exceeds that of the outlet opening adjacent the cyclone barrel. The cyclone outlet vortex tube lower portion has a truncated cone shape attached to a cylindrical-shaped vortex tube upper portion. The cyclone separator can be formed from multiple parallel tubes each having longitudinal fins for carrying a cooling fluid such as water or steam, and having a refractory material covering the tubes and fins.

  • Patent number: 5772708
Abstract: A system for feeding a coal-water paste material coaxially upwardly through a feed nozzle assembly into a pressurized fluidized bed reactor having a lower portion and a larger diameter upper portion. The feed nozzle assembly includes a nozzle unit for atomizing the coal paste feed material, and a concentric outer shroud tube enclosing the nozzle unit. The feed nozzle assembly is inserted upwardly through an opening in the bottom portion of the pressurized fluidized bed reactor into a coaxial orientation with the bed, so as to provide substantially complete combustion and/or carbonization of the coal paste material fed into the reactor to produce a combustible gas product. If desired, a sorbent material nay be fed into the fluidized bed together with the coal paste feed, so as to absorb sulfur from the coal and produce a clean fuel gas. During reactor operations at 130-200 psig pressure and 1,600.degree.-1,800.degree. F.

  • Patent number: 5735726
Abstract: An animated character such as a Santa figure which is capable of moving repeatedly from a sitting to a standing position, and also producing vocal speaking or singing sounds synchronized with movements of the character. The character includes a body having a torso casing containing an electric motor and multiple gears, a head-piece capable of making side-to-side nodding motions, and multiple lever members provided on opposite sides of the casing and pivotably connected together so as to produce the repeated standing motions of the character from a sitting position. Operation of the character is controlled by an electric circuit which is operated either manually or from a light-sensitive switch which can sense motion of any nearby moving object or person and activate movements of the character.

  • Patent number: 5726303
Abstract: The invention relates to the new product lactitol monohydrate and to a method for the production of crystalline lactitol. The crystalline lactitol monohydrate can be obtained bij seeding an aqueous lactitol solution of a special concentration under special conditions causing the lactitol monohydrate to crystallize and recovering the product. From the mother liquor a further amount of lactitol dihydrate can be recovered. Crystalline lactitol dihydrate can be obtained using different special conditions. Lactitolmonohydrate can further be obtained by mixing one part bij weight of an aqueous lactitol solution of a suited concentration with 1 tot 3 parts bij weight of methanol or ethanol and cooling the mixture to 15.degree. tot 25.degree. • Patent number: 5711350
Abstract: Piping systems adapted for handling fluids such as steam and various process and hydrocarbon gases through a pressure-reducing device at high pressure and velocity conditions can produce severe acoustic vibration and metal fatigue in the system. It has been determined that such vibrations and fatigue are minimized by relating the acoustic power level (PWL) generated in the piping system to being a function of the ratio of downstream pipe inside diameter D.sub.2 to its wall thickness t.sub.2. Additionally, such vibration and metal fatigue can be further minimized by relating the fluid pressure drop .DELTA.p and downstream Mach number M.sub.2 to being a function of the ratio of downstream piping inside diameter D.sub.2 to the pipe wall thickness t.sub.2, as expressed by M.sub.2 .DELTA.p=f (D.sub.2 /t.sub.2). Pressure-reducing piping systems designed according to these criteria exhibit minimal vibrations and metal fatigue failures and have long operating life.
