  • Patent number: 4247886
Abstract: A swivel joint assembly comprises a first arm member having a first end joint on one end. The end joint has an arcuate groove thereon. A second arm member has a second end joint on one end. The second joint has stop structure thereon for limiting rotational movement of said swivel joint to approximately 360.degree.. A swivel structure provides rotational movement between the first and second end joints. The swivel structure includes a fastener for securing the first and second end joints to each other. The stop element protrudes into the arcuate groove and a stop shoulder on the arcuate groove co-acts with the stop element to limit rotational movement of the swivel joint.

  • Patent number: 4238913
Abstract: A bulkhead construction for partitioning a deck comprises a lower panel member having an L-shaped portion affixed to the deck. An upper panel member has an L-shaped portion interfitting in the L-shaped portion of the lower panel whereby the upper panel member is supported by the lower panel member. A plate element for affixing the panel members to each other is fastened to the upper and lower panel members. A second embodiment of the invention comprises the lower panel member being constituted of a first metal. A base member constituted of a second metal is affixed to the deck for receiving the lower panel member. Polymeric material is disposed between the panel member and the base member to prevent contact of the first and second metals in order that corrosion is substantially prevented.

  • Patent number: 4237157
Abstract: Polypropylene and other polyolefins are rendered flame retardant by the addition of a phosphonate ester having the following formula: ##STR1## wherein a is 0, 1 or 2, b is 0, 1 or 2, c is 1, 2 or 3 and a+b+c is 3; R and R' are the same or dissimilar and are alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, alkaryl, alkaryloxy, aralkyl, aryloyx-alkoxy, or aralkoxy, wherein the alkyl portion of these groups may contain hydroxyl but no halogen and the aryl portion may contain chlorine bromine and hydroxyl groups; R.sup.2 is alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, or aryl; R.sup.3 is lower alkyl (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4); and a wetting agent penetrant. The presence of the penetrant promotes penetration of the retardant composition into the polypropylene. This fire retardant composition is particularly useful in polypropylene fibers and fabrics particularly where the fibers are woven into a matte.

  • Patent number: 4236191
Abstract: Grooves or channels are formed along the edges, and/or at other selected locations, of a guitar, of other musical instruments; as might be done in purfling and binding for such instrument. A fiber-optic bundle is laid into the groove and overlayed with a veneer of suitable wood, or other appropriate materials, but in such a manner that ends of selected fibers are aligned with and/or extend through suitable apertures formed through the veneer overlay. The individual fiber-optic bundles are then gathered into a main fiber-optic trunk line which is directed through an entry channel and away from the instrument; terminating at a source of illumination.

  • Patent number: 4223051
Abstract: A part, such as finial or the like, is molded of plastic material so that during the molding process there is formed within the part a bore having internal threads formed therein for a predetermined extent of its length and so as to terminate a predetermined distance in from the entry end into the bore from the base of the part. A circular recess, surrounding the entry end of the bore, and a number of rectangular indentations, are also formed in the base during the molding of the part; which is molded with the parting line of the molded parts in a plane that includes the axis line of the bore and the internal threads. The molding machine parts are formed to insure uniform and precise threads by locating the cavities, within which the parts are molded, all equally distant from the gate; and by forming cooling water tracks in predetermined positions with respect to the mold parts and cavities.

  • Patent number: 4202665
Abstract: The reversed passive hemagglutination test (RPHA) for the detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HB.sub.s Ag) is improved by the recognition that the speed of movement towards the periphery of a centrifugal field by immunologically aggregated solid phase support particles, increases proportionally with the amount of antigen present. It is further recognized that this dynamic study can be performed objectively and in an automated fashion by equipment such as the miniature centrifugal fast analyzer. The test performed in this manner and known as "reversed passive hemagglutination by minature centrifugal fast analysis" (RPHA/MCFA) is highly specific and eliminates the need for subsequent confirmational studies. Preliminary studies confirm a sensitivity comparable to other third generation tests.

  • Patent number: 4201492
Abstract: A loose-leaf binder is disclosed having a pair of separable cover members with rib portions and a centrally disposed fastening sleeve assembly disposed for insertion through a central aperture in the rib. An outer sleeve of said fastening sleeve assembly is tapered at one of its extremities to coact with ball locks carried by an inner sleeve member which is slidably disposed for limited longitudinal movement within said outer sleeve, and which is hollow at one of its extremities to receive the locking pin. The operating extremity of the inner sleeve member is provided with a transverse aperture which passes diametrically therethrough to receive an operating member in the form of a ring which is sized so that it will not interfere with closing of the cover no matter what the rotative position of the ring when disposed in the inoperative position which is flat, parallel to and in contact with the rib of the closed binder.

  • Patent number: 4200290
Abstract: A game device for chance play is disclosed which comprises:a base;a body rotatably mounted on said base and being formed with a plurality of holes of a first size and another hole of a second size;a plurality of members sized to receive in said plurality holes but not fitting into said another hole; andanother member sized to be received in both said plurality of holes and said another hole. The game device is played by inserting all the members in the plurality of holes but not the differently sized hole, and then spinning the body. When the body stops spinning, one player selects a member and tries to insert it into the differently sized hole. The game continues until one player selects the one member that fits.

  • Patent number: 4185636
Abstract: A plurality of organizers each formed with an arcuate support member upon which a selected number of suture holding devices are positioned in spaced relationship one to the other, are each designed to be disposed proximate an area of a body upon which surgery is to be performed to faciliate speedy and orderly control of interrupted sutures and needles utilized during the surgical procedure. Each holding device includes a pair of spaced wall members and a resilient holding member disposed in compression therebetween in such a manner that sutures can be releasably held between the resilient member and the adjacent wall member surface. Additional valuable time for surgical procedures involving insertion of artificial heart valves can be saved by utilizing a heart valve holder having a plurality of circumferentially spaced legs, to which an artificial heart valve can be releasably held by sutures.
