Abstract: A continuous vacuum frier feeds material along a path of conveyance within a vacuum frying chamber while maintaining the chamber vacuum. A frier comprises material conveying means for conveying the material through frying oil. The material conveying means includes endless belt means having a plurality of openings formed therein and a plurality of partitioning members extending downwardly from the endless belt means and each having a plurality of apertures formed therein. The partitioning members defines a plurality of compartments which receive the material and in which the material are fried and conveyed.

Abstract: A fiber optic measuring device can be used, for example, as a rate gyro. Variation in a measured parameters engenders a phase difference between two waves. The measuring device includes a light source 1, a SAGNAC ring interferometer 2, a detector 3, a phase modulator 4, and a electronic unit 7. The electronic unit 7 includes a processing system 9 which furnishes a signal that is a function of the measured parameter and an electronic sub-unit 12 for controlling the phase modulator 4. The control signal for the modulator is a superposition of a first, periodic gating, bias signal .PHI..sub.b (t) with period 2.tau. and amplitude .PHI..sub.bm, and of a second, staircase, negative-feedback signal .PHI..sub.m (t) synchronized with .PHI..sub.b (t), each step of which has a duration equal to .tau. or to one of its sub-multiples, and an amplitude .PHI..sub.s, which is a function of the value of the measured parameter and which falls back to zero when its amplitude exceeds a predetermined value .PHI..sub.mm . .PHI..
Abstract: The present invention provides a display cabinet for displaying an object from a plurality of views, in which the observer's own image is not reflected. According to the present invention, at least one reflective surface such as mirrors are provided within a cabinet. The mirrors define an internal display chamber within the cabinet, with one of the faces of the display chamber constituting a viewing window having a special coating which allows some of the interior light to escape the display chamber. The lighting in the display chamber is controlled so as to ensure that more light exits the viewing window than enters from outside the display cabinet, thus ensuring that the observer's image is not reflected.
Abstract: A gunfire simulator has a combustion chamber, means for admitting fuel gas to the combustion chamber, inlet valve means for admitting oxygen or an oxygen containing gas to the combustion chamber, ignition means for igniting fuel gas in the combustion chamber, an exhaust port in the combustion chamber and outlet valve means for closing the exhaust port and arranged to open rapidly in response to a pressure rise within the combustion chamber. Preferably the outlet valve means comprises a frangible diaphragm, which may be clamped by its marginal portion in a breach block during combustion.
Abstract: A solid modeling method for modeling solids which include free-form surfaces calculates intersecting portions of two solids and storing calculated results as first data, stores free-form shapes of the two solids as second data, approximates free-form surface portions of the two solids by polyhedrons so as to describe the two solids in a form of polyhedrons, obtains a union, a difference or an intersection of the two solids by carrying out set operations on the polyhedrons, and returns the polyhedrons obtained by the set operations into solids including free-form surfaces based on the stored first and second data.

Abstract: The throttle-part of the valve comprises a two-way seat valve with a follow-up throttle valve (8), which is driven by a differential guide piston (12) and an edge control system (20). The guide piston is pressurized via a pressure-spring (16) in a pressure-spring compartment in the direction of the closed position of the edge control system. The drive is effected via a pilot line A which pressurizes or depressurizes the pressure-spring compartment (18) via a proportional directional control valve (6), while the position of the guide piston (12) is determined by an inductive displacement transducer.
Abstract: A lamp includes one or more LED's which illuminate respective portions of a refractive lens element whose incident surface preferably includes portions of hyperboloids which translate the LEDs' emitted rays into substantially parallel beams within the lens element. The lens element's exit surface is preferably an array of facets configured to provide a desired beam spread pattern, allowing precise tailoring of the resultant output beam pattern. The plurality of facets also allows a larger area on the lamp to appear to viewers to be uniformly illuminated, thus providing full target size definition at a decreased cost and with reduced power consumption.
Abstract: A speech recognition apparatus includes a dictionary for storing information related to registered speeches for use in making a speech recognition, and a registration part for storing the infromation into the dictionary. The registration part includes a filter bank made up of first through nth filters and supplied with a speech which is to be registered in the dictionary, a first circuit part for generating recognition template information based on an output of the filter bank and for storing the recognition template information in the dictionary, and a second circuit part for generating pitch frequency information based on an output of the filter bank and for storing the pitch frequency information in the dictionary. The pitch frequency information is related to a frequency f which satisfies Min.vertline.A(f).vertline., where ##EQU1## X.sub.j (f) denotes a theoretical filter gain of a jth filter of the filter bank at the frequency f, G.sub.
Abstract: A cover for use on the outer surface of a skid plate of a combine grain head comprises a plurality of side-by-side cover panels, each cover panel corresponding to a specific skid plate panel of the skid plate. The inner surface of each cover panel is configured to matingly engage the outer surface of its corresponding skid plate panel, while the outer surface of each cover panel is substantially parallel to its inner surface and has formed therein a first living hinge adjacent and parallel to the leading edge of the cover panel and a second living hinge adjacent and parallel to the trailing edge of the cover panel. The living hinges permit the angles of the leading and trailing edges to be adjusted to accommodate tolerances in the manufacture of the skid plate panels and to accommodate deformations which occur in the cover panels due to the passage of time and variations in temperature.
Abstract: In a sorting device for sorted storage of recording media, a transport unit (32) receives the recording media (12) and conveys them to a selected storage compartment (16). Transport unit (32) runs on an endless positioning belt (24). In transport unit (32), sheet (12) is seized and gripped by rollers (34, 36). A single motor (26) drives positioning belts (24) of transport unit (32) and a drive belt (42) for their rollers (34, 36).
