  • Patent number: 5167957
Abstract: Compositions containing peptides which are capable of absorption in the stomach are supplied to animals, such as but not limited to ruminants, in order to supply nutrients and treat dietary deficiencies. In a preferred embodiment, peptides containing at least one other amino acid which animals are deficient in are supplied to animals to treat specific amino acids deficiencies. Preferably, the peptides contain glycine, phenylalanine, or proline, and the peptides are formed from a total of four or less amino acid residues. An alternative embodiment involves formulation of peptide derivatives through the attachment of mineral compounds or medicaments to peptides, and the peptide derivatives are then supplied to the diet to treat mineral deficiencies or illnesses. The compositions and methods are particularly useful in treating amino acid deficiencies, such as but not limited to methionine deficiencies in ruminants.

  • Patent number: 5166780
Abstract: An apparatus for showing a digitized NTSC-encoded video signal on an NTSC or PAL color television screen includes a system memory unit for storing the digitized video signal therein. A sync generator provides NTSC or PAL horizontal and vertical sync signals depending upon the type of color television screen in use. A sync delay and shading circuit provides an appropriate delay to the PAL horizontal and vertical sync signals when a PAL color television screen is in use. The horizontal and vertical sync signals control the cathode ray tube (CRT) unit to access the digitized video image in the system memory unit. The sync delay and shading circuit also disables the CRT control unit, a color burst generator, a (B-Y) and an (R-Y) color difference digital-to-analog (D/A) converter and a luminance and sync D/A converter during a 100 scan line period in which no video image is being displayed when the PAL color television screen is in use.

  • Patent number: 5164008
Abstract: A composition, suitable for use as a base in the construction of roads, parking lots, and other areas, is formulated from an ash aggregate comprising municipal solid waste incinerator ash, MSWIA, mixed with an aggregate material; upon addition of cement, compaction and curing, a volumetrically stable solid is formed. The incinerator ash is combined with an aggregate material, crushed, and sifted to remove particles having a size greater than three eights (3/8") inch prior to the addition of cement. The moisture content of the ash aggregate mixture and ash aggregate/cement mixtures are carefully adjusted to achieve maximum compressive strength. When ash aggregates containing less than 50 percent MSWIA are combined with at least 5 percent cement by dry weight, volumetrically stable solids are formed within seven days that have compressive strengths in excess of 300 psi.

  • Patent number: 5161540
Abstract: To monitor a patient for rejection reactions of an implanted heart, a permanent magnet is implanted epicardially in the heart wall and a magnetically active semiconductor element, preferably a Hall generator, is implanted endocardially. Movement of the heart wall results in changes in the distance between the permanent magnet and the semiconductor element. An implantable component supplies the semiconductor element with current and measures the signal generated by the movement of the heart wall. The measured values are transmitted electromagnetically out of the body by the component and recorded extracorporeally, and stored for data transmission.

  • Patent number: 5163053
Abstract: An audio signal demodulating circuit comprises a counter circuit (11) for detecting the number of samples for which interpolation is to be successively made by counting the output from an error correction circuit (2) and an AND circuit 10 for taking the logical product of the output from the counter circuit and the mute signal generated when synchronization has been lost. If interpolation is to be successively made for m (integer) or more, an audio differential signal is muted using a mute signal so as to remove the signal with greatly deteriorated audio quality. This can remove large audio distortion generated if interpolation is only successively made for error correction when errors successively occur for samples.

  • Patent number: 5161694
Abstract: A process of selectively agglomerating coal in an aqueous environment while leaving the mineral matter dispersed has been developed. This process is autogenous for hydrophobic particles in that neither an agglomerating agent nor an electrolytic coagulant is needed. It is based on the finding that hydrophobic particles are pushed against each other by the surrounding water structure. This process, which is referred to as selective hydrophobic coagulation, is driven by the so-called hydrophobic interaction energy, which is not included in the classical DLVO theory describing the stability of lyophobic suspensions. The relatively small coagula formed by the selective hydrophobic coagulation process can be readily separated from the dispersed mineral matter by several different techniques such as screening, elutriation, sedimentation and froth flotation.
