  • Patent number: 7313759
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for mobile data collection in which a handheld device collects and integrates one or more forms of data. For example, data can include text, digital photographs, digital video, barcodes, sketches, digital signatures, audio, GPS, GIS, document scan, print scan, CAD/CAM scan, and interactive data retrieval from other systems data. Firmware on the handheld device provides a data collection template as a visual display on the handheld device to provide a user interface for collecting the forms of data. The data collection template can comprise consecutive questions nested in menus or submenus, data collection prompts and commands for guiding a user through data collection activities. A permanent record is generated from the collected data. The permanent record is synchronized to manipulate data in the record for later use such as optimization of the data collection template, production of reports from the collected data and storage of the collected data.

  • Patent number: 7284035
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for providing Web content from pull and push based services running on Web content providers to mobile users. A proxy gateway connects the mobile users to the Web content providers. A prefetching module is used at the proxy gateway to optimize performance of the pull services by reducing average access latency. The average access latency can be reduced by using at least three factors: one related to the frequency of access to the pull content; second, the update cycle of the pull content determined by the Web content providers; and third, the response delay for fetching pull content from the content provider to the proxy gateway. Pull content, such as documents, having the greatest average access latency are sorted and a predetermined number of the documents are prefetched into the cache. Push services are optimized by iteratively estimating a state of each of the mobile users to determine relevant push content to be forward to the mobile user.

  • Patent number: 7274447
Abstract: A system and method for determining porosity of a material enables rapid testing of materials by detecting test particle penetration. The material is held by a test chamber wherein a test particle solution covers a surface of the material. The test chamber is pressurized to a predetermined pressure, predetermined temperature and for a predetermined time. After the pressure is released the test particle penetration/diffusion into the material is then detected through differential fluorescence of the test particle.

  • Patent number: 7269923
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of preparing Tricholoma matsutake-infected young pine trees by coculturing aseptic seedlings of a pine tree with a T. matsutake isolate, comprising the steps of liquid-culturing fruit bodies of naturally occurring matsutake mushrooms in PDB (Potatto Dextrose Broth, Difco) and inoculating T. matsutake KBFERI 20T05 isolated from the cultured fruit bodies; placing mixed soil of perlite and sphagnum peatmoss and K-liquid medium onto the inoculated fungus; and planting aseptic seedlings obtained by aseptically germinating pine seeds into the mixed soil, and then culturing the pine seedlings with the T. matsutake isolate to allow ectomycorrhiza formation on the fine roots of the pine seedlings. The method of the present invention is advantageous in terms of giving objectivity for the fungal inoculum by employing as an inoculum a fungus having DNA homology with the conventionally known T. matsutake, and of making it possible to mass produce T. matsutake-infected pine trees throughout the Year.

  • Patent number: 7253309
Abstract: This invention is related to a shell-and-tube type reactor provided with reaction tubes packed with a catalyst and adapted to circulate a heat medium to the fluid outside the tubes and is characterized by a method introducing a gas into the catalyst beds so as to retain the relative humidity of the catalyst in the range of more than 40% while elevating the temperature of the reactor thereby starting up the reactor. This method prevents the catalyst from degradation of activity due to absorption of moisture, exalts the service life of the catalyst, and permits stable production of methacrylic acid.
