  • Patent number: 8174368
Abstract: Transmission and reception of the identification number to/from an interrogator includes an interrogator that reads a recognition number from a responder by radio. When a clock pulse is modulated on a high-frequency carrier and transmitted to the responder from the antenna of the interrogator, there are a first case when the clock pulse interval is short and a second case when the clock pulse interval is long. By combining the clock pulse of the first case and the clock pulse of the second case so as to control the read of the recognition number from the interrogator, it is possible to realize reduction of the semiconductor chip size of the responder and suppress the cost of the semiconductor chip.

  • Patent number: 8176275
Abstract: De-duplication operations are applied to mirror volumes. Data stored to a first volume is mirrored to a second volume. The second volume is a virtual volume having a plurality of logical addresses, such that segments of physical storage capacity are allocated for a specified logical address as needed when data is stored to the specified logical address. A de-duplication operation is carried out on the second volume following a split from the first volume. A particular segment of the second volume is identified as having data that is the same as another segment in the second volume or in the same consistency group. A link is created from the particular segment to the other segment and the particular segment is released from the second volume so that physical storage capacity required for the second volume is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8170990
Abstract: Remote replication is implemented with hierarchical storage. In exemplary embodiments, a first storage site has a first storage system providing an upper tier of storage and a second storage system providing a lower tier of storage. A remote second storage site has third and fourth storage systems configured to receive remote replication from the first and second storage systems, respectively. When a file is migrated from the upper tier to the lower tier, a stub file is stored in place of the migrated file indicating a storage location of the migrated file on the second storage system. When copies of the migrated file and the stub file are replicated to the fourth and third storage systems, respectively, information is transmitted to the second storage site for linking the copy of the stub file at the third storage system to the copy of the migrated file at the fourth storage system.

  • Patent number: 8156293
Abstract: A unified storage system for executing a variety of types of storage control software using a single standardized hardware platform includes multiple storage control modules connected to storage devices for storing data related to input/output (I/O) operations. A first type of storage control software is initially installed and executed on a first storage control module for processing a first type of I/O operations. A management module replaces the first type of storage control software by installing a second type of storage control software onto the first storage control module. When the second type of storage control software is installed and executed, the first storage control module processes a second type of I/O operation, different from the first type of I/O operation. Control of volumes originally accessed by the first storage control module may be transferred to a second storage control module having the first type of storage control software installed.

  • Patent number: 8150645
Abstract: Measurement of the uncertainty used for quality control typically involves a plurality of factors. When the uncertainty exceeds a clinical permissible value, time is required for a medical technologist to investigate and to determine the factor causing the uncertainty. It is thus beneficial to automatically investigate factors in complicated uncertainty, particularly from the view point of reagents and samples which are subject to quality change and that are prone to affect the measurement quality. Quality control samples having a plurality of concentration levels are measured to calculate the average, coefficient of variation, standard deviation, and other numerical values. When quality control samples having n (n?2) different concentration levels are measured, variation patterns determine the factor causing the uncertainty, the factor being specific to each of 3n different combinations of variation patterns.

  • Patent number: 8127672
Abstract: At least one rotating component of at least one printing unit is regulated to a target value for a temperature, representing the component temperature, by a temperature controller. At least one drive of an assembly of the printing machine is regulated or controlled, on the basis of a target value for a rotational speed prescribed by a command level, with respect to a rotational speed to be maintained. For at least an operating phase transient, relative to the rotational speed, a target value prescribed by the command level, is modified. This is done by considering at least one member of a route and/or a control model characterizing the temperature controller and/or by using a rule (F2(?)) for a dependence of a rotational speed on a temperature. The modified target rotational speed serves as a prescribed value for the rotational speed of the drives.
