Abstract: Logical volume management for storage subsystem in virtual machine environment is disclosed. In one embodiment, a storage system comprises a storage subsystem including a processor, a memory, one or more virtual disks, and one or more logical disks each corresponding to a physical storage area in the storage subsystem; and a host computer connected with the storage subsystem via a network, the host computer including virtual machines running thereon, the virtual machines each being connected to at least one of the virtual disks or logical disks in the storage subsystem. In the storage subsystem, abstract disks each represent one of the virtual disks or logical disks. An abstract disk management table is stored in the memory of the storage subsystem to manage a relationship between the abstract disks and the one or more virtual disks and between the abstract disks and the one or more logical disks.

Abstract: A root cause analysis engine uses event durations and gradual deletion of events to improve analysis accuracy and reduce the number of required calculations. Matching ratios of relevant rules are recalculated every time notification of an event is received. The calculation results are held in a rule memory in the analysis engine. Each event has a valid duration, and when the duration has expired, that event is deleted from the rule memory. Events held in the rule memory can be deleted without affecting other events held in the rule memory. The analysis engine can then re-calculate the matching ratio of each rule by only performing the re-calculation with respect to affected rules related to the deleted event. The calculation cost can be reduced because analysis engine processes events incrementally or decrementally. Analysis engine can determine the most possible conclusion even if one or more condition elements were not true.
Abstract: An optical pickup apparatus for use on multi-layered optical information storage medium in which influences of reflected light, which result in crosstalk from adjacent layers in a multi-layered optical disk, are mitigated. In an astigmatic optical system of the optical pickup, a first composite segmented wave plate having a segmentation direction that is in the same direction as the focal line that is close to the astigmatic optical system, a second composite segmented wave plate of the same segmentation direction, and an analyzer are inserted.
Abstract: When a super resolution technology for optical disks is used in a situation where optical disk management information is formed with a signal that cannot be reproduced by a reproduction method based on a conventional optical disk technology, optical disk drives cannot make recording adjustments and/or reproduction adjustments. An optical disk drive uses an optical disk that forms a management information signal with pits not smaller in size than optical resolution and can be read by a reproduction method based on a conventional optical disk technology. When the optical disk drive records information onto or reproduces information from the optical disk having the super resolution region, it is possible to make proper recording adjustments or reproduction adjustments and perform a proper recording operation or reproducing operation in an optical disk's information region for user information recording or reproduction.
Abstract: Geographically dispersed data centers each include servers and storage systems and are in communication with each other. An application is installed on a guest operating system on a virtual machine set up on a server at a first data center. The application accesses a logical unit on a storage system at the first data center. When migration of the application is initiated, the process determines whether any of the data centers has server resources and storage resources required to receive migration of the application. A destination data center is selected from candidate data centers meeting requirements for migration of the application. The application and guest operating system are migrated from the first data center to a second virtual machine set up on a second server at the destination data center. If a replica of the LU is not already present at the destination data center, the LU is also replicated.
Abstract: The program attains compatibility of suppression of an overhead accompanying page exception handling in the case of operating a program whose amount of memory use is large on a virtual machine and suppression of the overhead accompanying page exception handling in the case of operating a first OS that has a function of making another OS run on a virtual machine. A VMM creates a shadow PT (Page Table) for prohibiting reading-writing of privileged memory that requires emulation of reading/writing by using a RSV-bit, and registers the shadow PT and the second PT that a second OS operating on the first OS has in an x86 compatible CPU equipped with a page exception detecting function using two PT's. When a page exception occurs, the VMM refers to a cause code of the page exception and, when a P field of the cause code is 0, determines immediately that emulation is unnecessary.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are an apparatus and a technique for quickly detecting a defective portion including wastage, which has occurred in piping having a straight piping portion or a bending zone, in the nondestructive inspection using a guided wave. A guided wave sensor 3 included in a guided wave inspection device 4 is mounted to the outer surface of piping 1. A guided wave is propagated to an inspection area of the piping 1. If a defective portion exists, the guided wave sensor 3 receives the guided wave that has been reflected from the defective portion. As a result, the guided wave inspection device 4 can acquire receive information including receive information derived from the defect.
Abstract: When a multilayered optical disc is used, the signal-to-noise ratio of a read signal is decreased as effective reflectance is extremely low due to the influence of reflection and absorption by front recording layers. Further, when a high-frequency modulation technology is used to suppress returned light noise of a laser, the erasure of recorded information is likely to occur on certain types of discs, making it difficult to simultaneously achieve the suppression of returned light noise of a laser and the prevention of the erasure of recorded information. To address the above problems, the present invention includes a section that performs a read by executing a multi-tone demodulation. The present invention also includes a section that controls the position and shape of a read light pulse to be radiated on a recording layer.

Abstract: A high speed defect inspection apparatus has a high-speed detector that includes a plurality of image sensors. The image sensors are arranged with gaps between them in the pixel direction to form two lines. The image sensors are arranged in a zigzag pattern so that they are not contiguous to each other in the scanning direction. The development cost is reduced by using an arrangement of a plurality of small-area image sensors. When an image sensor is installed, it is necessary to furnish a region required for installation. Since individual image sensors need to be arranged at fixed intervals, void regions result. A plurality of image sensors are arranged in a zigzag pattern to solve the void region problem.
Abstract: An automatic multi-purpose analyzer performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological samples such as blood, urine, etc. and includes a plurality of analysis units connected in series through a transfer line for transferring the sample, wherein failure caused by incorrect surface detection is resolved. The plurality of analysis units are connected in series through a transfer line for transferring a sample, each analysis unit including a pipetting mechanism for pipetting the sample, and wherein each of the analysis units includes a transmission mechanism for transmitting information about the amount of sample, obtained upon sample pipetting by the pipetting mechanism of each analysis unit, to other analysis units.
Abstract: A pressure vessel bypass valve forms a bypass system for enabling a part of the air compressed by a compressor to directly flow into a combustor while preventing the part of the air from flowing through a humidification tower and a recuperator. A turbine bypass valve forms another bypass system for enabling a part of a humidified air to be discharged to an exhaust duct after a heat exchange between the humidified air and a turbine exhaust gas is performed in the recuperator while preventing the part of the humidified air from flowing through a turbine. A turbine control system controls the bypass valves to be opened and closed in accordance with increase and decrease of the load.

Abstract: An automatic analyzer having a smaller size, allowing a larger number of reagents to be loaded, and having a higher processing capability. Reagent disks are disposed inside and outside a reaction disk. Reagent probes are disposed to be able to suck reagents from the reagent disks and eject the reagents at common positions. A plurality of reagent probes are alternately accessed one by one to each of the reagent disks per cycle. Each reagent probe comprises two arms rotatable independently of each other so that the reagent probe is able to access a plurality of points and interference between the plurality of reagent probes can be avoided. A first reagent and a second reagent can be loaded on each of the reagent disks, and the number of loadable reagents can be increased without enlarging an overall system size. Thus, an automatic analyzer having a shorter cycle time and a higher processing capability can be realized.
